Day with Tebow attracts $100,000 bid

Tim Tebow Foundation Celebrity Golf Classic Gala - Arrivals Getty Images

On Saturday, the 2nd annual the Tim Tebow Foundation Celebrity Golf Classic occurred at the TPC Sawgrass Players Stadium Course.

But something other than golf is creating the biggest buzz.

According to Hayes Carlyon of the Florida Times-Union, a woman bid $100,000 to spend a day with Tebow.  The money will help fund his foundation’s charitable works.

“It was incredible,” Tebow said.  “It’s humbling.  You don’t feel worthy, but when people care about your cause and know that you’re trying to do something for other people it’s amazing to see what can happen.”

Tebow also should be glad that Rob Gronkowski didn’t show up with $100,001.

Rob doesn’t need to spend 100k to get Tebow’s action.

He will help himself as a linebacker against the Jets when they play this fall.

Question tho, will Tebow still be a virgin then?

Gronk and Tebow – two guys well on their way to being answers to trivia questions – like Mark Fidrych.

I’ll bet at least one isn’t in the league in 3 years – at least Gronk.

Football fans are the strangest lot I ever saw. Why hate on Tebow so viciously? No, he isn’t a Manning or even a Rogers. He has played one year in the NFL.

He has a Heisman which means something pretty significant in the football world. His team last year came to life when he played, and oh yeah – they beat the Steelers.

He is vocal about his religion. At least he has religion and isn’t paying child support on a dozen kids with a dozen ex lovers. He hasn’t been arrested for pot, has no DUIs. Really, by NFL standards, or the standards of a large number of fans, Tim is pretty boring. Sort of like of the kind of guy I would have my daughter marry. A familiar comment?

  17. randomguy9999 says: Apr 14, 2012 10:14 PM

Jamarcus Russell, who arguably is the worst qb in history, has better stats for
    . Yards per game
    . Completions per game
    . Sack yards per game

    Those are pretty significant stats….

So I don’t get how anyone, anywhere could be delusional enough to think Tebow is an actual QB, much less worthy of all this fan drama….

Where are JaMarcuses groupies bidding 6 figures for a 60 minute lunch?

When will Tebow’s 15 minutes, please, for the love of God, be up?

I’d say that Tebow is a talented athlete who could succeed at a number of positions on a team. As a QB I think Matt Hasselbeck or Trent Dilfer would be where I would rate him. He’s someone who could win in the right situation or be mediocre or better in an average situation. He could be interesting as a role player on either side of the ball. I’m an agnostic. I think his religious stuff is never a negative that should be criticized. He sets a good example for those who need to see that it’s okay to celebrate who you are. There’s a big difference between being positive and being preachy. Tebow comes across as confident and positive about who he is. I don’t listen to him a lot, but I never recall hearing him tell me what I should think or do myself. If he did as a general practice, I would say he deserves all the crap he gets, but he doesn’t. So lighten up on the kid. Let’s see what he’s got as a player……

“They live in a part of town that has a lot of people in need and a lot of people with a lot of wealth, and she felt like bringing Timmy to her town down there would maybe change the town,” Dellenback said. “It sounds like she’s going to have a little event where she brings over some of the kids who are in need and some of the kids who are pretty deserving.

“I got goose bumps thinking about it because that’s what the night was. You thought (the bid) was for one reason — which you worry (because) you think, ‘Why is somebody paying $100,000?’ — and then you found out what their motives are and you’re just blown away by how God had moved in the room at the time.”

    =========================

All comedy aside, the reason for the ridicule is that he wears his religion when the cameras are running, and its all too obvious. Warner has praised his lord and savior, Jesus Christ, but Tebow takes it to another level. Its to the point of him being used as a divisive subject on faith in America – and Lord knows we could use some.

He is being set up to fall, but is it of his own choosing by being so visible, or is the media staging his “crucifixion?” It will be interesting to see his development, particularly if he really gains a starting job, and gets the Jets in the playoffs.

  62. moagecu says: Apr 15, 2012 11:00 AM

Only reason hes so popular is because hes a good white kid. There are 100 more black athletes that are as, if not more religious than this kid, yet he gets all the press.

and the reason people are tired of heating about him it’s because he doesn’t deserve one article let alone 10 a day. Hes an awful quarterback that got a ridiculous amount of help from his defense and kicker. Anyone who thinks differently knows nothing about football.

    ––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––
He’s not even the Pats TE most likely to fail a drug test because my team has one who has failed one already prior to being drafted. Come on man, he’s just a goofball kid. He’s all business when it comes to football. Matt Light is almost as goofy as Gronk, non Pats fans just don’t know it. You don’t succeed in that offense unless you know what you are doing out there, it’s not a streetball offense.
    ………………
I’ve never heard Tebow say anything about others being condemned if they don’t follow his religion, that’s unfair. His messages are always positive. That’s a smart way to go about it IMO.
Good last line on the story though, PFT. :D

You want me to offer football analysis about a woman paying $100,000 to spend a day with Tebow? Well, please tell me what that has to do with football.

Honey, most of my posts do offer real analysis about the game we all love. Unfortunately, most of the Tebow news doesn’t have spit to do with the sport. It’s all about Tebow playing the role of Tebow. And I don’t know how to take that seriously anymore.

Further proof that some people have waaaaaay too much money.

  69. theunvarnishedtruths says: Apr 15, 2012 6:33 PM

America is indeed the greatest country in the world! Where else could the truly unintelligent scum of society have the chance to so brilliantly display their ignorance and bias. First, I’m not a religious person so don’t waste time trivializing on that basis. Second, I rooted AGAINST Tebow all through college…so no blind fandom attacks will apply either. Third, I’m not a Jets fan or Broncos fan and I totally agree that he is not traditional drop back passer and certainly the NFL favors that style of offense.

BUT, what the Jets are doing right now is going to prove many of you idiots to be nothing more than the self loathing haters that you truly are. I played DB and coached as well (and I have no delusions to be an expert) and just like the Steelers learned….having a QB who can run INSIDE and outside puts an enormous pressure on defenses. Not only that opposing teams have to prepare COMPLETELY differently for that one/two weeks they play the Jets (as Rex has correctly stated) pointed out…but if the Jets actually let Tebow throw on first down off of play action (which statistically the Broncos did not do…look it up) opposing defenses will have an even tougher time with in game personnel match ups based on who NY has on the field (not just which QB). Last point that hasn’t yet been made a lot…Tebow could add 4-8 points a game just on Two Point conversions! Why do you think Rex signed a monster Rugby player who’s never played American Football???? Because the guy is massive and can out jump every defender he’ll meet inside the 5 yard line when the “jump pass” becomes a lethal weapon with a solid RB and running QB in the game.

Last point…I was at the charity event this weekend where the woman bid $100k for the day with Tim (no I’m not rich…I was working). Her husband was there as well and she made it clear that she was planning to use the day to have Tim come to help her raise money for underprivileged kids in her city. No one knew who she was (and she donated at least twice that amount during the event) but clearly she believed in what Tebow was trying to do for kids. So not who cares what so many of you think about Tebow as a QB or person….just as they did in the SEC and Denver…the true fans will appreciate the kid as a tough, hard working, humble competitor…and a winner. As a previous post asked…if you hate reading about him why do you keep clicking to read articles and submitting posts? Unfortunately for the most part it’s because people who have low self esteem and are living miserable lives often try to make their own pathetic existence “matter by trying to undermine or “hate” on people who seem to be positive role models. One thing I can tell all of you who persist in hating and who get frustrated and make excuses when he wins….Tebow is going to make your life hell as he continues to win…and do it in a unique style! So go grab another 6pk or bottle of Oxy haters….it’s going to be a Looooong season for you!

  70. Deb says: Apr 15, 2012 9:05 PM
