Irsay promises “seasons of monsters” in Indy

As we’ve mentioned a time or two, the Twitter account established and maintained by Colts owner Jim Irsay represents appointment viewing.

Even when it’s unclear whether he’s quoting music lyrics or sending a cryptic message or sending a cryptic message by quoting music lyrics, it provides an often unfiltered glimpse into the mind of an NFL owner.

And so, at a time when we’re still dealing with the aftermath of a bounty system in New Orleans and grappling with a sensitivity to safety that could eliminate kickoffs and pondering how much the game of the future will resemble the game with which so many fell in love, it’s refreshing to see some old-school bluster from one of the 32 mean who run the sport.

“The ‘War Room’ is buzzing here,” Irsays says.  “[P]lans are emerging to unleash seasons of MONSTERS.”

What’s refreshing to the fans could be alarming to the league office.  But that’s a matter for another day, perhaps when the NFL is announcing fines or suspensions imposed on those “MONSTERS” for, you know, behaving that way after they are “unleashed” by Irsay.

Then again, maybe those are just the words of a Springsteen song.

  1. To Mr. Gestapo Goodell:

Will you please drug test that freak????

    Seriously.

    Grown men communicating by Twitter?

    OMG!

  2. There was only 1 word to describ their previous leadership…. “Meek”.

After Dungy, Polian and Caldwell all tore out the spine with their “bend but dont break” passive soft cover 2 defense, followed by their pulling the plug on the possibilty of a perfect season… Im glad to see the new leadership trying to give Luck something Manning never had: an aggressive coach who is going to do everything he can to win, as opposed to the “trying not to lose” mindset thats been here over the past 10 years.

  3. Speaking in gibberish… of Charles Dickens we will not confuse. We’ll see what happens with the Colts this year, but replacing Peyton Manning may seem not so funny whence the losing begins Mr. Irsay in 2012-2013… patience boss:)

Really? I know a lot of pro-athletes, lawyers, doctors, and business professionals that use twitter.

Question is….why is a chic like you reading a story about football? LOL….all the dishes are done I guess?

  5. Excuse me but you’ll be hearing from my lawyers…I never signed a release for you to use my likeness for this article.

  6. If you have been following Irsay closely you would know that when he refers to “Building a Monster” he means a monster of competition. He has no intention of hurting others.

  7. irsay is a great owner unlike the redskins owner dan snyder, redkins fans hail on dez!!! colts all day!!!

    Wait What??????

    redkins, dez, colts Im confused….

  9. Wow. Glad my team has a mentally stable owner. You’ll never see Steve Bisciotti acting like Irsay has been.

It all stems from the parents however so its more old man Irsays fault his kid turned out to be such a weirdo.

  10. All the attacks on Jimmy. Love him or hate him, I think he is referring to a physical style of football where the colts can not allow 6 yrs per carry, where running opens up the passing game.

My bro works for the colts and the first thing Pagano did was get rid of the machines in the weight room – all free weights now and the attitude is different. Won’t become physical overnight, but at least we have something to look forward to after 10 years of one unanswered question – why can’t the colts stop the run?

  12. That Frankenstein photo is hilarious, you know, with Peyton’s forehead being big.. The resemblance? You know like Peyton?

    Crickets chirping…..

Anyway, i believe it… I think luck will get in there and play strong straight out of the gate and that Indy will make the best, most seamless franchise QB transition in NFL history. …

Here’s where the naysayers will start saying crazy things like jamarcus, leaf, etc….

But does anybody really believe there is a significant chance of luck busting? No way

The league office regrets to inform you that Mr. Goodell does not approve of this “physical style” that you speak of. A cease and desist order is imminent.

  14. Colts are a class act organization, always have been since Jim Irsay took over from his father. If you want to compare Indy to Washington and think Snyder is better than compare which franchise wins. It’s just proves you can’t throw money at it and hope for the best. Atleast the Colts never had a bounty system in place. If it was done in New Orleans than it was done in Washington.

May I have the English translation please?

  16. Is that Irsay photo from the Colts’ website? You’d think he would have asked for a retake.

Why the photo of Megahead manning? He’s with the Broncos now.

  18. point blank, irsay is a great owner and people are bringing up pills and bottle stuff, but nobody has a squeeky clean past or current image, he does alot for the indy community and nothing wrong with a owner that does things his own little different way

  19. I’m thoroughly convinced that Irsay drinks alone because of the psycho babbling he does.

  20. What a frelling embarrassment to the league and all the other owners. He is not yet worse than his drunk azz dad but he is getting closer every day. Thank the Lord his took his freak show to Indy and left us with Steve Bisciotti. It may have taken 13 years, but it was worth it. If not for lucking into Peyton Manning this team would consistently be the worst team in football. You better hope Andrew Luck can do a Peyton imitation. You had him for over a decade and only won one SB because of a lousy ownership and front office group. It ain’t getting any better with Jimmy popping off on twitter every day.

  21. It will certainly look like a horror movie for a couple seasons in that building.

Fans get it. If I were an Indy fan, I would be praying for 3 horrid records as long as Luck progresses. If they draft well and Luck is as advertised, the Colts could be looking at a decade of championship level football.

No need to put on a good face for the fans. They know the short-term looks bad. But they will turn on you if it isn’t a team of “winning monsters” in a few seasons.

  22. Excited to have a physical style of football here in Indy. For years we were successful with a finesse game and that was fun because we were winning. But now it’s time to Build the Monster and start pushing our opponents around in the trenches. Irsay does say dumb and unnecessary things, but I like this slogan that Chuck Pagano has adopted. He is a nice change of pace from Jim Caldwell. The assumption is that the Colts will be one of the worst teams in the league over the next few seasons. Considering their division, I don’t think this will be the case. Luck will be good quickly and the Colts will be able to turnover their roster in two seasons with the money they have to spend in free agency. Colts were very fortunate to replace Manning with Luck.

    Colts good, fire bad!

  23. Oooo… scary.
At least the Colts still have the best uniforms in the league – less is more.

  24. Should have used a picture of Count Dracula since my beloved Colts sucked so hard last year and will – I fear – continue to do the same this year.
