I'm curious as to how the NFL can prove that a player accepted the payment offering. Can they check their e-mail accounts? I understand that they apparently proved that there was an offering of cash for hits. This is speculation, but wouldn't they offerer have just given the dude the cash and there be no paper trail?

Some may comment on Anthony Hargrove's infamous "pay me my money" rant, but pay-for-performance bonuses are written into contracts for specific things like interceptions, tackles, and sacks.

No, it's not amazing how something peter king said six days ago carries weight with Florio today and how so many posters and Florio seem willing to mitigate CHEATING.... Screw the Saints! They got caught and a good man, hired by the owners of the 32 teams, gets castigated (for the most part) by this collection of apologists and windsocks.

Free George Zimmerman but keep those lying, cheating "Saints*" away from the NFL, where professionalism and sport are supposed to be confidently assumed.

I would rather him take the time to reach a fair decision than to see a rush to judgement. Not to mention he’s trying to let some of the initial impact to cool down. Time is an attorney’s best friend so to speak and so it is I’n this case. If he gets “pushed” on this it could blow up in their faces. Be calm.

Seriously?

You don't think the Gestapo rushed to judgement on the team?

Taking 2 draft picks
Suspending the HC for a FULL season at a cost of 7 million
Suspending indefinately ( a full season) the perpetrator

All those punishments for something every freakin team does in the NFL AND college in some similar fashion.

Players admit they try to take out the best players on opposing teams cause it will increase the odds of winning

Goodell is going power crazy and over the top because all of these former players are sueing now .

The Saints are being railroaded for fear of lawsuits.
Just like George Zimmerman is being railroaded for fear of riots.

Enough already. The Saints have been hit harder than any NFL team in history, and for something that many other teams have done for years. Football is a violent game, and players get hurt all the time, if Goodell wants player safety to be a major issue, then play flag football from now on...Take away the head coach for a year, take away the GM for half the season, take away the interim head coach for six weeks, fine the team 500K, now suspend players too! wow, why didn't he just suspend the whole team for 2012? You know who suffers most? The fans, who had nothing to do with any of this, Goodell didn't even give that a thought, sorry but he's a jerk!

Goodell is in a little bind...I'm sure he doesn't want players' suspensions over-shadowing the draft. However, it isn't fair for teams not to know as soon as possible- especially for the one's who have signed Saints players. I think it would have been better to get this out of the way sooner. But I'm guessing the hold up might have been Goodell trying not to piss off the players' union.

No, what the NFL should do is keep dragging its feet and let the story stay front and center in the news for a few more weeks, if not months. Hasn’t Goodell had enough time yet to look into his heart and decide on a punishment?

He has to let this "discipline" dog and pony show go on as long as possible, but in the end it will do nothing to ease the financial pain of trying to make a thousand law suits go away. It was good CYA attempt though.
