Tebow gets booed at Yankees game

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim v New York Yankees Getty Images

While attending a Yankees game on Friday, Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger said that the “feels bad” for “the Sanchez” because fans will be cheering for backup quarterback Tim Tebow during the first game of the 2012 season.

New York fans attending Sunday’s game at Yankees Stadium got a chance to chime in.

Art Stapleton of the Record reports via Twitter that Tim Tebow was shown on the large video monitor attending the game, and that his image was greeted with “loud boos.”  Later, Stapleton explained it as “[f]aint cheers” and “mostly boos.”

Though we won’t know what the fans at MetLife Stadium will do until they assemble for a Jets game and Tebow trots onto the field, it’s safe to say that Tebow won’t be hearing many cheers if/when he starts burning worms and/or putting balls in the front row.

UPDATE 10:29 p.m. ET:  The Associated Press item from the game also says that Tebow was booed.

When he finally gets booed out of NY I really wish I could be there to watch him cry.

  2. dumbasdirt says: Apr 15, 2012 10:03 PM

The reason why he got booed is because most Yankees fans are also NY Giant fans just like most NY Met Fans are also NY Jets fans. So Yankees/Giants fans don’t like him and booed him.

  78. ampatsisahypocrite says: Apr 16, 2012 3:43 AM

Before we get to our obligatory citizenstrange sighting and our predictable “numbers that prove Ben R. never did anything to help the Steelers win, it’s all about the defense and run game” we present this little stat story, from the playoff run that started it all:

    ———————————————
Quarterback: Roethlisberger (2385 passing yards, 17 TD, 9 INT) had an outstanding regular season, posting a 98.6 passer rating and generally displaying the presence that led him to be named 2004 NFL Rookie of the Year, but reserved his best play for the postseason. “Big Ben” is 49-of-72 passing (68.1 percent) for 680 yards with seven touchdowns and just one interception through three 2005 playoff games, for a lusty passer rating of 124.8. Running Backs: The Steelers running game has struggled somewhat during the playoffs, with both Willie Parker (1202 rushing yards, 18 receptions, 5 TD), and Jerome Bettis (368 rushing yards, 9 TD) averaging well under four yards per carry. Parker has just 132 yards on 47 carries (2.8 avg.) on the ground…
    —————————————–

As you can see, the Steelers run game disappeared totally during the playoff run. Meanwhile, with no run support to help his passing game, Ben responds by AVERAGING 125 rating games during the playoff run.

Meaning he carried the offense on his back on the way to a ring.

Chew on that citizenstalker dude… and start waking up to reality.

The ones who spend their time and money helping others through the world’s largest charities and philanthropic organizations… But hey, we can just give all our money to the government and they can do that for us! hooray!

I like Tebow as a person and believe he is a fine indiviudal. That said, you must be living in a bubble if you do not understand why a “devoted Christian” message would bug people. The Christian Right does not stop at promoting their way of life and living that lifestyle by example, they have politicized their beliefs and have tried to force others to live in accordance with their dogma . New York, one of the greatest multicultural cities in the world, does not take kindly to being told how to live.

NYC fans are like the majority of the nation – we are tired to seeing Tebow grab EVERY spotlight, microphone and camera he can reach. Give it a rest – go work on throwing spirals and reading defenses.

  118. chitowncowboy says: Apr 16, 2012 10:25 AM

I believe we have a problem with Tebow because he prays about winning a football game instead of thousands of people who die from starvation every day. He forces his religion to people who are non-believers and have the right to say Jesus is an imaginery character with special powers like Superman or Scooby Doo.

“He forces his religion to people who are non-believers and have the right to say Jesus is an imaginery character with special powers like Superman or Scooby Doo.”

Give me one example of Tim Tebow “forcing” his belief of having a relationship with God on anyone? “Forcing” a religion on someone is Islamic beliefs bud. Meaning they will actually kill you if you don’t believe in Muhammad, and that is written in their holy text, the Quran.(Muhammad killed hundred of people over his lifetime.

And you saying Jesus was an “imaginary” character is just plain ignorant… not only did thousands of people witness Jesus alive and performing miracles, but hundreds witnessed Him alive walking around AFTER he was dead and laid in a tomb (with many of those accounts documented by the eye witnesses)…

Even the most skeptical and cynical historians will tell you that Jesus was a real person and actually lived over 2000 years ago… Its amazing what a man could do in only 2 1/2 years and yet transform history in that brief span. (Jesus was 30 when he began is ministry and he died at 32)

what have you accomplished in 2 years?

@pilot2011… um no ‘bud’, there is very little evidence or mentioning of Jesus in the historical record of literature outside the bible, while most of the ‘history’ in the bible has been disproved or shown debatable at best. Hmm, evangelical christianity is precisely the attempt to force religion on others. Btw have you ever read the old testament? Talk about an abundance of murder for religion. Tebow is a jackass and a horrendous quarterback, on top of that I have to hear his ass on SC non-stop in interviews shouting i love my god, he is good, he is the greatest god etc etc. While this may not be ‘forcing’ it is f’ing annoying as all hell.

Jesus may have lived and may have been one of the greatest philosophers and public speakers of all time. But nothing he preached was new to moral philosophy (the golden rule) and just about every version of his zombie story is contradictory. Most of his story was stolen from egyptian legend. There needs to be a BIG ASTERISK placed besides the New York Yankees 10 championships that they won in an ALL WHITE LEAGUE prior to baseball being integrated when Jackie Robinson first lead the way. I’m missing something. Why wouldn’t them boo him? Half the people at that Yankee game were Giants fans. They showed a video of the jets quarterback (the Jets….their in-town rivals). Why wouldn’t they boo? If Tom Brady was at the game they would boo him, too – but it would be twice as loud as both Jets and Giants fan would be booing together.

The author jumped to conclusions here. Not all Yankees fans are Jets fans.

what do you have to lose? I know the main stream society says its not cool, or you’re ignorant if you believe in having a relationship with God, but I can tell you first hand how many lives I’ve seen changed for the better because they asked God into their lives. 144. pilot2011 says: Apr 16, 2012 7:42 PM

True followers of Christ will never fail, man. It’s all about walking by faith, and not necessarily by sight. Everyone says that they’ll believe when they see it, but sometimes you have to believe to finally see.

Europe for example was once flourishing Christian continent, but their countries took God out of their livelihoods and look what road they’re going down right now.

The Bible doesn’t mention American, or even foreshadows this great land. But it does say that God will bless any land that befriends and protects Israel. We are the only country that legitimately stands by Israel, and we are an undoubtedly blessed country. Public figures that take a stand for Christ like Tim Tebow are what’s right with this country… Name one thing this kid has done that is negative or derogatory in any way. He may not be a great NFL qb, but he is a winner on and off the field.

Prove that the Old Testament god that MULTI-BILLION amount of people globally in the three major faiths of Judaism, Christianity and Islam does not exist scientifically. What metrics will you use for your data collection? What are your control variables, independent variable and dependent variable? How are you going to conduct and collect a random sampling of at least 1,000 dead people to conduct your interview to answer the question of: Is there an afterlife? How is this data going to be peer reviewed. It is better to remain silent, than open up your typewriter and type and remove all doubt. It is a belief. You can’t prove scientifically that there is, and conversely you can’t prove scientifically that there is not. It is what you believe. When you punch your ticket, then you will know scientifically the answer to that question. Until then, it is just a theory on both sides of the table. Hope you are right in your theory of doubt. If not, well….

  151. shadeforourbattle says: Apr 17, 2012 11:46 AM

    @hatesycophants
Where in my writing did I state that I agree that Christians are equally as destructive as ATHEISTS. I am sorry that you possess the reading comprehension skills lower than a third grader hatesycophants. Let me try to explain to you a concept that is quite easy for most people to understand, but for you by your own admittance it is to complicated, and that is poker. In poker you are given 5 cards and then you get to bet on them against the other players. When I see your bet on your hand of cards and then raise it based on my hand, I am stating through my actions of raising you that my hand beats your hand. Do you call or raise? Just in those five ATHEIST’S accomplishments they murdered over 100,000,000 individuals and enslaved over 200,000,000 people combined. Considering the world population back in the Middle Ages and previous (that is when a lot of the Christian atrocities took place) was near 300,000,000 total or less and during the Age of Enlightenment and previous it was 600,000,000 or less (another major time when atrocities were committed by Christians in the name of their religion) I think I got you beat with my poker hand of five ATHEISTS cards. That means that I believe that even though Christians have committed atrocities in the name of their religion that I believe ATHEISTS are far more dangerous and EVIL than those Christians and have committed atrocities of evil of far worse magnitude than the world has ever seen. Way to ignore the fact that they are ATHEISTS. You just attempt to change the topic of the DEBATE, which is about who has committed worse atrocities, religious believers or non believers, to DESPOTISM. Sorry, you lose. You have been measured and found wanting hatesycophants.

  152. shadeforourbattle says: Apr 17, 2012 4:30 PM

    Dear steelershaveobnoxiousclasslessfairweatherfans,
You are comical, do you not realize that? The irony is so funny because your comment site user name is an ad hominem, yet you are complaining that I am making ad hominem, (attacks against the man) statements in reference to Adolf Freakin Hitler in this debate. Guilty. You got me. Everyday of the week and twice on Sunday will I attack the character of the EVIL, megalomaniacal sociopath Adolf Hitler. You got me. Guilty as charged. Next, I realize that including Adolf Hitler in the debate of Atheists is controversial, but I will take the word of one of the Preeminent Historians on Adolf Hitler in Alan Bullock, when Alan Bullock stated that the Nazi party and Adolf Hitler wanted to get rid of Christianity and the influence of the Church in his book Hitler: A Study in Tyranny. Read Rise and Fall of the Third Reich. Hitler was having Church’s Crosses replaced with him and Bible’s replaced with Nazi Propaganda Books to worship Adolf Hitler and the Nazi Party. See I judge men by their actions, not their words, and Adolf Hitler’s actions are those of an Atheist, but I digress. Are you the type of person who believes a man when he says that he did not have relations with that woman when his actions and the stain on the blue dress prove otherwise or that he is not a crook? Are Bullock and Shirer making unfounded ad hominem attacks against Adolf Hitler. Those in the historical world would laugh at you and dismiss you as I am (I have degrees, that is plural for individuals such as yourself that lack the reading comprehension to grasp such basic concepts, in this subject matter). How ironic and simple minded that you would focus on Hitler and ignore the other four Marxist/Communist/Socialist ATHEIST monsters. You do realize that Mao’s, Lenin’s/Stalin’s (They were a duo) atrocities make Hitler look like child’s play don’t you? No, you probably don’t because you are an intellectual lightweight. Next about your STRAWMAN debate claim. It is a fact, as I explicitly stated that MULTI-BILLIONS of individuals globally believe in the God of the Old Testament, but I also stated that they could not scientifically prove that the God of the Old Testament existed as much as you and non-believers globally can prove that he does not. It is a belief/theory on wether you believe in God and the afterlife or not. Neither side can prove anything, that is what I wrote. I am sorry that you have the reading comprehension of a kindergartner. How is that a STRAWMAN? Both sides can’t scientifically prove there theories/belief. See there is this thing called the scientific method, and it starts with a question, which in this case is “Is God and the afterlife real?” We can research it and form hypothesis and theories based on our research as believers and non believers have, but it CAN’T be tested. THAT IS A FACT. In a scientific peer reviewed case, you have to prove that there is or there is not and because of that there is not or there is. Prove Positive = Negative False. Prove Negative = Positive False. Believers can’t prove the positive, and the non believers can’t prove the negative. Got it? And thus we have a draw, or in chess an impasse. That is what a belief or theory is. Can’t prove it one way or another. You are a chump and you got owned in this debate. Stop embarrassing yourself.

Just because you “prove” your “intelligence” by that which you could get out of a text book or google, does not prove you to be right in this debate…lil something called Strawman Fallacy. Another Strawman Fallacy is one that insults someone’s character (e.g. Username) to prove that they know more about a subject, when what you tried to prove (that my username is a ad hominem) isn’t even directly part of the debate. I just heard a bunch of rhetoric! Nothing proves that all your anger and hate is put to good use other than to spread more anger and hate!
