Broncos checking out more quarterback prospects

The Broncos continue to send signals that they’re going to grab a quarterback at some point in next week’s draft.

They went down to Arizona last week to check out the tall Arizona State quarterback Brock Osweiler and they’ll follow that up with a pair of visits from quarterbacks at team headquarters this week. Mike Klis of the Denver Post reports that Michigan State’s Kirk Cousins and San Diego State’s Ryan Lindley will both come in to meet with the team and make their case for being a developmental option behind Peyton Manning.

Cousins started three years for the Spartans and drew a lot of praise for his leadership skills and accuracy as a quarterback. His arm strength doesn’t draw quite as many rave reviews. He’s been projected to go as high as the second round.

Lindley is pegged a bit lower, around the fourth round, after four years as a collegiate starter. He’s got ideal size and a strong arm, but has been marked down for inconsistency and an inability to read defenses quickly enough. It will be interesting to see if the Broncos also take a look at Nick Foles from Arizona, who is ranked somewhere around the three guys already mentioned.

Whichever young quarterback winds up in Denver, it seems clear that the Broncos are making sure they have some other option for a future when Manning is no longer on the job.
