Redskins at New Orleans in Week One

Carolina Panthers v New Orleans Saints Getty Images

Future Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III gets a good draw for his NFL debut, facing a New Orleans Saints defense in Week One that will likely be depleted, with multiple starters facing potential suspensions.

The Saints have released their full schedule, which shows them hosting the Redskins in Week One. That’s the game when interim head coach Joe Vitt and General Manager Mickey Loomis will start serving their suspensions for the bounty scandal, and it is also the game when Saints players including linebacker Jonathan Vilma, defensive end Will Smith and safety Roman Harper may be suspended as well.

One interesting note on the Saints’ schedule is that their bye is Week Six. That means both Vitt and Loomis will have an extra week on their suspensions. Vitt is eligible to return after the Saints’ sixth game (Week Seven), and Loomis is eligible to return after the Saints’ eighth game (Week Nine).

The Saints travel to Carolina in Week Two, host the Chiefs in Week Three, visit the Packers in Week Four and host the Chargers in Week Five for Sunday Night Football on NBC before that bye week.

I don’t know what this guy is talking about. Redskins have no secondary and their at New Orleans?? A mad New Orleans team too?

Redskins are going to be in the celler of their division after week one.

  2. fvckyourmother says: Apr 17, 2012 7:18 PM

It will be a battle of the bounties. Gregg Williams will be betting on someone breaking RGIII’s leg and ending the Redskins season, vs cracking Drew Brees’s neck and putting him in traction and out of the state like Peyton Manning.

  3. steelersaresuperiorineveryway6welookdownandlaugh says: Apr 17, 2012 7:18 PM

Steeler Nation deserves this game, not the lowly Deadskins or Saints*.

I just can’t take it anymore. The Steelers are vastly superior to the rest of the league in too many ways to list. The glory is unsurpassed. The bar has been set so incredibly high, and for that, we are sorry.

This is why after we will our 7th this year we will leave this pathetic league and start our own out of the greatness that is Steel. The foundation will be so strong. The Steelers organization will be divided into eight. Wow. PURE non-Steeler football players deemed Steeler quality will be allowed to fill roster spots. Whoa, we are so gracious.

Until then, bow. Bow to our unrivaled achievements and watch as a shower in confetti. Watch as we climb the mountains that we placed. While we watch you peasants whimper in your corner, unsuccessful, dreaming of joining the SFL. Maybe in another life.

I don’t care how many defensive guys are suspended. Still Saints offense. Tough task for skins in week one.

Not gonna jump the gun and call it a blowout, because anything can happen. Should be an interesting game, though.

This should be a who’s who of unoriginal bounty gate and redskins sucks jokes in the comments.
In reality these are two polarizing teams w/ major storylines. Great early game.

Best of luck to RGIII. Trying to out score last year’s NO.1 ranked offense in one of the loudest stadiums in the league will be tough.

Should be the kind of game we saw 3 years ago when Meacham had that play to strip Horton (I believe) so that NO got the ball back and won by a field goal. Hopefully the outcome is different. I don’t think facing a NO team that is depleted is the issue. It is facing a NO team with no Payton. I think the Skins win this one in a close one. Maybe 33-30

    HTTR!

    BIG HITS NO QUITS!!!!

as a Saints fan, this is exactly what i wanted. Bring RG3 into a pissed off dome. we are going to get it rockin’ early this year.

  19. peytonsneck18 says: Apr 17, 2012 7:35 PM

bounty, the quicker picker injury maker!!!! watch out RG3 they will go after your old knee injury from a few years ago, greg the bounty maker!!

So playing in one of the toughest places in your first regular season game is a good draw?

    Okay.

  21. marcinhouston says: Apr 17, 2012 7:37 PM

And the Redskins definitely never had a similar bounty program if you take Roger Gooddell’s word over the Washington Post and several former Redskins players who admitted a $15,000 bounty on Brad Johnson.

  26. tonyromoisterrible says: Apr 17, 2012 8:04 PM

I love the blind confidence the saints have with no payton. I don’t see it. Saints start 0-3 at the least. No worries. You all will be the AINTS again in no time.

    Wow

  28. jluns275 says: Apr 17, 2012 8:50 PM

Uh-oh. Bad schedule draw for RGIII & the Redskins. Griffin will “accidentally” be chopped by a blitzing DB or rolled up on by a DL & will be out for the season w/ a serious knee injury &/or a concussion. Shanahan will be starting Rex Grossman for a 3rd season in a row. Shanahan definitely owes his 2 rings to Elway.

I think that this was a give away game. RG3 is going to have a rough time with the loudness of The Dome, especially on the season opener with a lot of pissed-off fans screaming loudly. I think the early bye week is probably more beneficial than not, as some people are saying. Remember, The Saints and The Cardinals are playing in that Hall of Fame game to open pre-season, meaning that The Saints will have played 10 games in a row without a break and then the bye and then their 11 remaining games. So, it’s pretty evenly distributed.

You can put a star on whatever you want but don’t think for a second that your team is marking down the Saints as a win on their schedule.

  40. reach4succeed says: Apr 17, 2012 11:04 PM

The Washington Redskins will play an unbelievable 1st game and defeat the Saints with RGIII passing for near 400 yards. The Saints will be too watered down to win on that day.

  42. twodat says: Apr 17, 2012 11:37 PM

In case no one noticed, Saints have replacements for Smith, Vilma and Harper as well as Spags. Don’t think this is a win for RGIII. Like the guy and hope he does well. Plus, it’s the DOME. Difficult place to play Have Chief and Chargers at Dome. Green Bay is the biggest challenge.

  43. silentcount says: Apr 17, 2012 11:46 PM

All of the Saints haters are going to be in for a shock when they go right back to winning when the season begins. Now that they got rid of that loser Williams, their defense will be good in the playoffs. First time the home team wins the Superbowl in their home stadium… after the NFL did everything it could to keep them from winning. Another great story in the making!

Drew Brees is going to be enraged this year.

I feel sorry for any team playing against the Saints.

The Saints we accussed of running up the score last year. Can you imagine what an angry Drew Brees is going to do this year?

  48. whodatgirl1 says: Apr 18, 2012 1:20 AM

WOW. You Redskins fans have a lot of faith in a guy who has never played a game of PROFESSIONAL football in his life. The defenders aren’t going to be like the ones he played against in college. They will be stronger, faster, bigger. For all we know, he may be a bust! So don’t put all your hopes in one basket especially for a team that is going to be severely angry, even the new ones who have signed.

Look, I’m a diehard Redskins fan who wants RGIII to come to Washington more than anybody, but the Colts are going to pick RGIII and the skins will end up with Andrew Luck, which anyway you look at it, it’s a win-win pick for the skins and the colts.

seriously? and you’re a fan of which team? they haven’t played since ’09 genius

  53. chachanola says: Apr 18, 2012 9:59 AM

@Michael David Smith : depleated defense? why because you assume all “22 -27″ players are on the current roster. That is quite moranic of you to assume. Cause Scott Fujita in Cleveland , Tracy Porter in DEN, A unsigned Mccray,Grant, Adoyle, is really gonna affect our opening day game. Let,s not count the others that are else where or retired. You guys really need to find something else to do or if you know for sure man up and put it out there. Cause this tip toeing around with your sources and secrets is worse than the lady social set and you all are men.

@tonyromoisterrible or horrible or whatever….how about you worry about why Dallas AINT been relevent since the 6th grade for me or more so how irrelevent they wil be this season. You’ll still get owned by the Giants twice. Sorry a female had to school on that .

  54. chachanola says: Apr 18, 2012 10:02 AM

  56. banjostang says: Apr 18, 2012 1:42 PM

Never play a team that has a chip on their shoulder ans something to prove. Drew will have another big day, SF will lose.
There will be a ton of penalties against NO because God-ell will make it known to the refs that he needs to see lots of yellow against them to cover the league’s ass to try to mitigate the lawsuits brought by the former players.
