I must truly have an addiction to football. I torture myself during the off season with these boards and listen to the rantings of thousands (actually read them) of lunaticical fans, hatred, lovers, genuises, idiots, know it alls, coaches, players, QBs to CBs and some I think are even wanna be cheerleaders. Easy to tell fan from hater, the guilty protect the innocent, the innocent accuse the detractor. The main problem, theNFL season is too dam short! Each team should have 106 players and the schedule should be 36 weeks. (2×18). Have the play offs, SB, draft and back at it again. It’s worse than a drug. Drugs get you put I’n jail. Pro football gets you on NBC SPORT TALK NFL. Where you do your detox before the season starts I’n September. God, I need HELP!!!! Any shrinks out there? 

First off, I love how the story of Vilma offering the 10K changed from an e-mail to him offering money on a table. That is hilarious. Second, the commissioner cannot penalized the players without proof of payment. You cannot prove intent-to-injure based on on-field actions even if there were late hits, or high/low hits. Badell said the reason the execs were penalized was because of INTENT to injure, not because they injured. Unless he has access to their bank accounts, I find it difficult to see how he can suspend anyone. Finally, who are these sources that people keep saying exist? I think this is the NFL by means of the media, this story came from NFL.com and spread like fire, trying to make Vilma, et al look more convincingly guilty.

When this whole bounty story broke, I thought to myself, “That explains a lot about why Roland Harper plays the way he does.”

I watched maybe 3-4 Saints games last year. In those few games that I saw, Harper personally caused at least three scuffles when his borderline dirty tactics drew the ire of the opposing team.

I’m not talking about just hard hitting…..I’m talking about driving into players who were already down, taking players down by the facemask, or needlessly going after a player’s knees when a form tackle would have worked just as well

But now we know he wasn’t deliberately looking to injure anyone; he was just looking for some supplemental income.

When these suspension come out for “legal” hits and they are nowhere near as strong as this site and the 4 letter network want them to be, the reaction will be fun to watch.

Remember this one FACT:

Over a THREE YEAR PERIOD – ZERO – opposing players were knocked out or injured as a result of illegal hits by the Saints Defense. Not a Single One!

I bet you the suspensions are announced by end of the week. It’s all lining up. You have appeals settled, the schedule comes out “tonight”(it will be leaked before 7pm) and then Goodell lays down the hammer by Friday.

I’d be hesitant to pile on the Saints too much. Keep in mind what happened the season after the NFL “exposed” the last scandal. Brees isn’t that far off from Brady and it could get real ugly if they decide to prove a point this season.

Have pity on the misinformed. Half of the Saints defense won’t be missing for more than 2-4 games. Correction, less than half. A few of the players who will be suspended either no longer play for them or will be cut. Only a handful of starters will be missing. They have added 4 linebackers and a DT in free agency, all of which will be starters. All of the 5 defensive players they picked up were in the top 25 FAs. Quality, my friends. And while they don’t have top draft picks, under Payton, their top producing players are FAs, or 3rd round picks or below.

P Thomas, Jimmy Graham, Chris Ivory, Marques Colston, Nicks, Evans, Brees, Vilma, Strief, etc… The majority were not top draft picks by this team. They have 5 lower round draft picks this year, 3 of which I believe, will be defensive starters this year.

The offense alone is capable of 9 wins by itself. With Spags coaching the D, and with new talent added, how does anyone believe there will be a major drop off here.

PFT can say teams are looking at the schedule and smiling or whatever. That sounds great because PFT is riding this team hard. But any team looking at the Saints on their schedule thinking the suspensions are going to give them an easy win, haven’t done their homework at all.

2012 Saints are easily 11-5. They may not win the division or Superbowl, etc., but this is a talented veteran team that hopes your crappy little team overlooks them. Please do.

Shouldn’t they be looking at flagged illegal hits? Because if you are hitting late or out of bounds or helment to helment would that not be considered a flag offensive? Problem is they were not flagged – so they must have not been illegal – isn’t that what refs are on the field for?
Oh another problem – the Saints don’t have many of those flaggy things so how can we hold them accountable for wrong doing – so lets go after normal football contact hits and hold that aganist them.

I’m not surprised about Harper. I can remember seeing him on a number of plays this past year trying to intentionally injure players after the whistle. For example, during the regular season game against Detroit he twisted the ankle of Brandon Pettigrew long after the whistle which baited Pettrigrew into going after him and in the process pushed the referree – for which, Pettigrew was fined. Harper is Dirt-T!

c’mon, most posters on here just don’t like the saints and hate us (their fans). bottomline, most saints fans expected harper to be gone. most even thought that will smith may be a cap casualty unless he slimmed down. considering harper played linebacker most of the season, it’s cool since we revamped the entire lb core. benson, get drew signed, that is all.

I thought the league already had people checking all the game tapes for illegal hits. They sure were fining people for hits that WEREN’T illegal already. So either the league office screwed up, or they are suspending people for clean hits. This makes no sense especially since nobody actually got injured.

Why is Vilma dropping $10G on getting Favre knocked out of the NCFCG? What a waste of money. Everyone in the NFL knowns that the trick with Favre is to keep him IN the game long enough for him to throw his obligatory game-losing interception.

During the coinflip for OT against one of Favre’s teams (I forget which), Randy Moss said to Favre (I paraphrase): “C’mon homie…just throw an interception so we can get this over with & go home. I’m hungry, man!”

The funny thing is, Brett Favre is the person who told that story in the post-game press conference. For the record, though, Favre didn’t throw a pick in that OT, & his team ended up winning.

Roman Harper is not a liability. Spagnuolo comes out in cover 3 packages often and Harper would likely be covering the
Middle where is actually not that bad. He’s bad whe. He’s isolated on the sidelines against one player. He’s a very sure tackler and pretty hard hitter who’s probably the best blitzing and un defending safety in the league. He’s a fan favorite and there’s NO way in hell he leaves new Orleans anytime soon.
