>>> stop blaming the politicians for not wanting to rob the taxpayers to pay for your hobby. pay for your own hobby. <<<

******************************************************************
I'll tell you what, if they were to find a way to only add the extra tax to those people who say "Yes, tax me, I want to help build the stadium", and left all the other idiots out of it... They would likely have plenty to match Zygi's half in no time and this thing would be built within 18 months!! But all of you who didn't want your tax dollars going toward a major source of revenue (year round, not just football games), yeah all you people are not welcome to enjoy the new facility or benefit from it in any way!! That would be great!!

Someone on here who lives in MN and who seemed to know his facts on the issue, pointed out that the tax is not a new tax but an existing tax that is never going away.. The vote seems to be on the allocation of funds and not creating funds through added taxes.. Can anyone else confirm that? If so, this issue just got even stupider!!!

ANYONE in MN who knows someone who needs work should be eager to vote this thing thru!! Just the money stimulated by the almost certain Super Bowl awarded to most cities with new stadiums would be a huge economic boost for the twinn cities!!

As a resident of MN I can honestly say we have the worst state government in the ENTIRE COUNTRY! We have had 2 state shutdowns in the past 10 years! Really? Really? We have the 7th highest tax burden in the country and we continue to borrow money against the SCHOOL funding?

The proposed plans have actually been shut down by the the Dumbocrats. In the vote Monday, 5 repbulicans and 1 dumbocrat voted in favor of moving the issue to the house floor, so get your facts right! What pisses me off the most is the fact that BOTH parties are unwilling to utilize a proposed $400+ million dollar payment by a Indian tribe to build another casino. Maybe my math is off base here, but $400 mil from them, $400mil+ from Vikings, plus the city/county portion leaves very little left to fund. So whats the issue? The damn goverment and its politicians attempting to tell people how they can spend their money. To my fellow voters in MN get all of these idiots out of office this year! Not only in terms of their failure to come to any form of a solution in this issue, but every other issue facing our state.

This is an awful and painful thing to say, but I hope the Vikings leave to hopefully teach our incompotent government a lesson! Its a sad week Vikings fans

Man if Vikings fans are still whining from the NFCCG against the Saints a few years ago they’re going to need to be monitored for years with supervision after the Vikings leave Minny.

The Vikings were my favorite team growing up besides the Saints, then after I saw the utter pathetic whining behavior after that NFCCG I lost all respect for the organization and the fans.

I look forward to them becoming the next team in Los Angeles. They share the same colors as the Lakers and L.A. Vikings just has a nice ring to it.
-------------------------------------------------

That's funny --- I didn't dislike the Saints until I saw how completely classless their fans were after winning the NFCCG, and how suddenly New Orleans became "Green Bay South" or "Pittsburgh South".

Did I call it on the other thread or what?!?!? THIS is why everyone trashes Minnesota! In a Minnesotans eyes, there is no hiking, fishing, golf, art, theatre, etc anywhere else but Minnesota. Really, son, no Wisconsin city compares to the Twin Cities?

Milwaukee-Pop. 594, 833
Madison-Pop. 233,209

Compared to 383,00 in Minneapolis and 285,000 in St. Paul. Not to mention Wisconsin is a much more populous state in general.

Bucks, Brewers, Badgers…speaking of Badgers…care to post some facts to back your “go to our schools” claim? WAY more Minnesota kids attend college in Wisconsin than the other way around. Look it up.

I'm not your son.

If you'd really like to get in a state by state comparison- I can do it all day long. THIS is why everyone laughs at Wisconsin.

I didn't do a lot of research on this- I hope you wouldn't expect me to. It's silly to expect a shouting match on a blog is going to solve much. But, I hope you come back to read this.

There is about 75 miles between Milwaukee and Madison- right? The population is nice, but we're talking about two MAJOR metropolitan areas that are only separated by 10 miles at most when looking at STP and MPLS.

Even more so- I never said you couldn't hike, camp, fish, hunt or do anything else in WI. I've actually enjoyed doing all of those while in WI. However you can't compete when it comes to fortune 500 companies HQ'd in the area. Best Buy, Target, Cargil, MedTronic, 3M, United Health Group- all just off the top of my head.

Additionally- let's just look at a rank of 'best states to live in': WI = 24th, MN = 5th. Source: Forbes.

The only reason for the 144 game sellout streak is because 130 of them were last minute buyouts. The other 14 were against the Packers. And the TV ratings for Queens games in Minnesota are awful.

What is with the pathological need for Packer fans to lie about how popular the Vikings are? In 2010, the Vikings were 6th in the NFL in local TV ratings. The first half of your comment is just stupid. Talk about an inferiority complex.

"GB cannot be compared to Minneapolis. In fact, no city in WI can be compared to the Twin Cities. It’s pretty easy to have a stadium in a town where NOTHING ELSE EXISTS.

Bucks, Brewers, Badgers...speaking of Badgers...care to post some facts to back your "go to our schools" claim? WAY more Minnesota kids attend college in Wisconsin than the other way around. Look it up.

The cost of the stadium over 30 years of use the State gets out of it is small. The team is well worth keeping based on how important it is to so many people.

The problems with getting something done are as follows:

1) Inability to agree to terms. This state owned facility will only be used by the team 10 days a year, so how much of the facility does the team pay for? Vikings think 40% for 3% of the year is reasonable. Some politicians do not.

2) The simple fact that the Vikings stadium doesn't benefit everyone, and therefore those people it does not benefit get pleasure in seeing it go away. Some people just like to see others lose things. Simple as that.

I will personally be voting against all incumbents during this election. Viking nation should all do the same. We have horrendous representation currently and the only chance we have is if we clean house.

I'm just sick to my stomach about this all. It's gotten very old listening to everyone go back and forth. This goes for both our elected officials and run of the mill MN residents. There have been so many misleading reports that twist the details in a way that NO ONE really knows what is happening.

For those who say: "I'm not a fan, so I shouldn't pay for it." I gauraentee there is something else you do participate in, enjoy or support that others have helped foot the bill for. "MN is better than a team with character issues and a greedy owner. We're #2 in the nation for preforming arts theaters...." Yes, theaters that were built with contributions from Tax Payers. Yes...it's true. Do your homework.

For the GB fans who claim that they're the greatest organization to ever walk the earth because 'this would never happen in GB.' Please. You are so short sighted you can't see past your nose. GB cannot be compared to Minneapolis. In fact, no city in WI can be compared to the Twin Cities. You're Governor has been under fire for more than a year at this point, and you seem to think our state is mismanaged? Yet, MN is sooooooo awful that you come here to go to school, you come here for jobs, and then you act like WI is some promised land guarded by golden gates!

Blah. I realize this will be scoffed at, and replied to calling use Vikqueens, or PurpleMunchers or some other "witty," remark. Feel free. This is only a rant to get it off my mind....you can all go back to talking about the packers and cheese- WHAT ELSE IS THERE?

Cincinnati is a prime example of what will happen if you give your sales tax revenue to the Vikings stadium. That money needs to be used for other projects. The county here is in major debt, it’s accumulating interest faster than it’s paying and there’s a good chance the county will have to declare bankruptcy. If the county declares, the city of Cincinnati is screwed. All because we just couldn’t live without an NFL franchise (if that’s what we want to call the Bengals).

Trust me. The battle to maintain basic functions in the future (jails, hospitals) won’t be worth the “joy” of having an NFL team stick around on your dime. Let them leave and never look back.

-----------------------------------------

Except Minnesota wont be taking money from regular taxes to pay for this. They are taking money from an extra 0.25% sales tax, and from a gambling tax.

Perhaps you should have an idea what you are talking about before you spout off about it. It makes you look bad.

Maybe the Vikings and the other 30 teams should get the ok to print phoney stock certificates like "only" the Packers get to do, then we would never have to worry about NFL teams wanting a taxpayer paid stadium. There is no sense of fairness what-so-ever when all 32 teams don't have to play by the same rules. I would hate to see the Vikings be forced to leave Minny, just as I hated to see the Brown and Colts leave their original cities. I read stats where the NFL states that the Vikings are their 13th largest market out of the 32 teams so I wouldn't be surprised if the NFL pressures the Vikings to keep working with the idiots in the Minny Legislature as the NFL doesn't want them to move.

Exactly. And this is why Minnesota is the laughing stalk of the entire world. They think burying money in a mason jar in the backyard will guarantee it's safe. They are scared of confrontation, so they smile and nod and nothing ever gets done.

And they think that even though the State gets to use the stadium for the other 350 days, makes money on all of the tax revenue ($20M a year alone on salaries related to the Vikings operation), makes money on all of the booze, food, merchandise and everything else football related in the state, not to mention a Super Bowl or Final Four...that they shouldn't have to pay even a .025% sales tax increase?

If the county declares, the city of Cincinnati is screwed. All because we just couldn’t live without an NFL franchise (if that’s what we want to call the Bengals).

Trust me. The battle to maintain basic functions in the future (jails, hospitals) won’t be worth the “joy” of having an NFL team stick around on your dime. Let them leave and never look back.

The PFT planet is awfully dumb on this issue.

FACT–Every study ever done shows that governments NEVER make back the money they front for these stadium deals.

FACT–Wilf COULD finance it himself but wants to keep the cash to use on in his other business’.

FACT–LA is 4-5 years away from a stadium IF an owner wants to sell Phil Anshutz a piece of the team at a discount. None want to. The Vikes have nowhere to go.

FACT–The taxpayers of Minnesota HAVE EVERY RIGHT to vote on this potential deal. Why do the Vikes oppose this?

FACT–Telling Norwegian Lutherans to “do this OR ELSE” is a guaranteed way to make sure you never get it.

----------------------------------------------

Did the USA stop being about capitalism? Did we become a communist state when I wasnt looking?

There are other locations that WILL pay 50% of the bill for a new stadium. Why would Wilf pay the entire bill when he doesnt have to? His objective is to make money off of the Minnesota Vikings. It isnt the March of Dimes or something. It is a For Profit venture. He has never said it wasnt.

What studies are you referring to that say the cities dont make back the money? Between income tax and sales tax, they absolutely DO get their money back. It is just a matter of how long it takes.

Personally, I dont care one way or the other on this deal. But I feel bad for local Vikings fans. I grew up 10 minutes from Veterans Stadium. If the Eagles moved instead of building Lincoln Financial Field, I would have been super ticked. I dont want to see Minnesota fans go through that simply because its an election year or because of political motives.

IMO taxpayers shouldn’t be held up for close to a billion dollars for palaces that only rich sports fans and even richer owners will enjoy.

----------------------------------------------

This is kind of moronic statement that has killed this from the very beginning. The Vikings use the stadium 10 days out of the year. The metrodome saw use by others on 300 days the year before the roof fell. Without the Vikings the metrodome loses money and will have to be subsidized by the city or it will close.

Let them leave? I suppose it's time for me to give up on the NFL. It's not really the game I grew up with anymore. The twin cities will survive with out them, but mark my words, in a few years the politicians will be back building a more expensive stadium to lure a new team here. Just like they did when North Stars left.

You can thank those folks (Michelle Bachman, locally, comes to mind) when the purple and gold moving trucks head west.

She had NOTHING to do with this vote...take out your frustratons on the Wilfs. If your neighbor wanted to upgrade from a mobile home to a double wide ,would you give HIM the money to do it? Would you expect your state politicians to sign a bill FORCING you to pay for your neighbors new double wide? Think about it...if you can.

Minnesota doesn’t deserve them. They have the lowest season ticket base in the NFL. The other 31 teams all have waiting lists for season tickets.
