Revis has no leverage and would be retarded to holdout since his last contract had a clause that would void his current 4 year deal and automatically add 3 more years at around 3 million per. The jets would hold his rights till 2017 and can let him rot in his prime if he holds out again. Whats he got to gain, unless he finds a loophole.

so he thinks that making $16 mil/year is what his value is? He must be crazy. top 5 qb gets that kind of money and he can only cover one side of the field whereas a qb can spread all over the middle and other side.
While I think mevis is still a top end cb he did slip a bit in the last year. not much, but just enough to get beat by welker for 100 yards in a game including a 70 yarder. A shutdown cb never gets punked like that.
anyone remember Moss beating revis for TD badly just after he signed this big contract? it caused revis to pull his hammy and not be so effective.
-----------------------------------------------
Not a very good analyst of football are you buddy? Every player gets beaten at some point or another even shut down corners. The consensus amongst just about everyone in the league, talent evaluators, etc is Revis is arguably the top corner in the league and without a doubt in the top 3. People really act funny when someone does something they don't like. They start acting petty and try to down grade that person's accomplishments.

Secondly,

In a passing league such as today's NFL cornerback and defensive ends are premium positions. They will collect premium dollars.

Once again we have people here throwing a hissy fit because another NFL player dares to hold out. I laugh at you guys. You all are hilarious and a bit pathetic. This is how the NFL does their contracts. It is renogotiable at any point of the contract by either party. Or did forget just a few years ago Thomas Jones comming off the best season of his career....1400+ yards around 13 rushing touchdowns but the Jets asking him to take a pay cut of the contract BOTH Jones and JETS MANAGEMENT happily signed?

When Jones refuse he was cut. Anyone remember that? Or how about the dozens of players on a number of teams that are given the choice of renegotiating their contract to a lower amount or getting cut.

Or how about the dozens of back loaded contracts teams sign with players never intending to pay out the final years. Save your indignation. It just makes you guys look ignorant. The other 3 major pro sports leagues never face this situation because contracts are guaranteed in those leagues. Until NFL contracts are guaranteed they will be deemed renegotiatable by the party with the most leverage.

Damn Revis.... Quit being a bitch. You signed that 4 yr contract. The least you could do is wait until yr 3.

It's players like you that mess up this league and their teams.

I bet you wouldnt be holding out if your butt was injured on the sidelines though huh?

It's one thing if a guy signs a relatively low rookie contract and turns out to be an unexpected superstar. Then I could see him expressing a desire to negotiate something more in keeping with his true value to the team. But as a veteran, Revis should have worked out a good deal for himself two years ago. If he didn't, that's his problem. Let him sit out.

I'm going to go the other way on this one.

They need to pay Revis and make him the highest paid corner in the game, b/c he is the best in the game.

I respect what he did 2 years ago - he basically told the Jets, "I won't ask for 4 years, $70mm but how about we front-load the contract and if I'm still playing at this level come 2012, we'll redo the contract" That's the gist of what he signed, and now that he has held up and is playing at a superior level, they should compensate him with a similar contract.

We always b and moan about players not trying hard after getting paid (ie Marcedes Lewis/CJnoK).

This is what I want if I'm a GM, basically pay a guy based on his performance and keep giving him small deals so he continues to play at that level.

It's not like he misrepresented what his intentions were when he signed. You guys think he didn't tell the Jets the same thing? You guys don't think the Jets understood what they were giving him?

Feel free to share your point of view.

He agreed to a 4 year deal that front loaded his money so he could get very very rich right away. Now that the front loading windfall has been realized, he wants to forget he agreed to the 4 year contract and go back to the trough for more front load action.

There are just two things in play here: Ego and Greed. Neither one is a redeeming quality of the human condition.

THAT is not a team guy. THAT is a ME ME ME egotistical, self centered SOB that doesn't care about the team.

As a Pats fan I hate the Jerks, BUT I really hope they stick to there guns on this and tell Revis to eat s***.... just on the principal. It would really impress me if Tannenbaum/Ryan/Woody stick to their guns, let Revis hold out or do whatever other BS he tries and force him to swallow a big fat nasty tasting gulp of humble pie..... shove that bloated ego right down his throat and force him to come crawling back to them. He has two more years on his contract and the Jerks hold all the cards. Let's see if they have the balls to stand up to this greedy egotistical Prima Donna.

so he thinks that making $16 mil/year is what his value is? He must be crazy. top 5 qb gets that kind of money and he can only cover one side of the field whereas a qb can spread all over the middle and other side.
While I think mevis is still a top end cb he did slip a bit in the last year. not much, but just enough to get beat by welker for 100 yards in a game including a 70 yarder. A shutdown cb never gets punked like that.
anyone remember Moss beating revis for TD badly just after he signed this big contract? it caused revis to pull his hammy and not be so effective.

Dude holds jerseys more than any DB in the league, and gets away with it.

Too bad it wasn't enough against the Giants.

You know, the real football team that plays at Giants stadium?

Like it or not, the New York Jets PR team has to be the best in the NFL.

“Hmmm. People aren’t talking about the Jets enough. What can we come up with to get them going again?”

I swear, it’s like just when one story dies down another one pops right back up again.

Yup - jets are good for talking their way into headlines..........unfortunately for the jets - success is measured in lombardi trophies...... and the jets come up WAY SHORT in that department - they should take a look at their "landlords" in the blue uniforms if they need an example of how to run a REAL pro team.......
Championships, class, and they keep their mouths shut

Revis ( aka "the armbar") is set to make 13.5 million over the next two years.

By comparison Santonio (senior smoke) Holmes will be paid 23 million.

Problem ? What problem ?

He can do what he wants! He is the JETS!! Without him that team is junk an not playing in back to back afc championships. Yes it was revis n that defense not that junk sanchez who got them there. No revis jets are 6-10 last year. He more important then the qb to that team

I am a Patriots fan, but I have to admit that I like Revis. However, I don't think he should be holding out.
the Jets should not cave....make him sit till he caves. He has earned alot of money...and he needs to earn the rest of the contract. If he wants to sit for two years....he will find the world moves on...with or without him.

Wait...wait...wait...something smells fishy.
Revis hasn't actually held out. A reporter just "happened" to ask the Jets GM if he was. So the reporter...just created a news story out of thin air just to start a controversy. What a shocker!

Per terms of his contract if Revis holds out the last three years of the deal are activated at even less money than he will earn this season. There is no way Revis holds out. After the season with one year left they will negotiate and sign a new deal. This is a non-story once again created by the Jets haters.
