Folks, these stories are not about racism, elitism or media bias. They are not even specifically about the law or whether or not pot should be legal. It's about logic, wisdom, common sense and, ultimately, money. The NFL draft process is like picking investment opportunities and the players are commodities that may either increase, decrease or maintain a particular value. Players who are most likely to learn a system, maximize their skill set, stay healthy and in prime shape and avoid trouble with the law/league rules will be rewarded with big money and the chance of a lifetime. Guys who smoke pot before a combine or during the offseason are not demonstrating a commitment to increasing their skill set, staying healthy and in optimal shape or avoiding trouble and they aren't showing much cerebral power, either. There is no god given right to an opportunity to take advantage of god given talent and knowingly wasting such rare opportunities is simply indefensible.

Yes it is illegal do I think it should be ? No. As a marijuana friendly I believe in it for medical and recreational purposes. I believe in it for insomnia and anxiety and after a long week at work. That being said it is illegal and what is troubling about this kid is that he knew he would get tested at the combine, all he had to do,depending on how often he burns, is not smoke for 20 days max(30 dAy rule is a myth more geared toward daily multiple year smokerand if u smoke one time it's in a few days, he couldn't even do that. Lack of self control and shows impulsiveness. Hey dummy u coulda quit for 3 weeks went to the combine the. Afterwards celebrated your bad bench press w a fat one!

Here is the point folks who need it spelled out:

He benched like 19 reps at combine, pathetic for a 300+ guy-indicative of work or lack thereof in weight room;

He is hanging with some douchers at OSU(sorry, I know);

He knows combine coming up and is still smoking it, so is he committed and serious?

Has he worked his tail off to be the best he can be, or is smoking drugs?

He traded in ring for tats;

He is a low achiever for his size and the future will show he is not a strong player, but more of a settler for average player.

Why should they have to choose between marijuana and football? You don't have to choose between football and alcohol.
While I obviously see your point that there is something wrong when the NFL Network is inducing sources to divulge information that the NFL does not want published, I think it would be an ever bigger mistake for the NFL to police the network and impose restrictions on it that other networks/newspapers would not have to put up with. NFL Network is head and shoulders above the rest- its reporting and analysis puts ESPN to shame. If there is anything that will put the kibosh on its status as the best NFL-related source of information, it would be any restrictions of any kinds that comes as a result of the NFL owning the network.

Regardless of whether weed should be legalized (it should!), it's still against the law. The scouts are 100% correct. Any player who fails the test at the Combine, which is a job interview and/or lies about it during individual interviews with teams is incredibly stupid. Absolutely, this is a major red flag to their character and mental ability to follow simple laws and rules.

Addicted to it? No you idiot. If a player like him knows he's gonna get drafted why would he stop smoking weed? There's no punishment for testing positive for it at the combine. Like look at Christian Ballard last year. He tested positive but still got drafted. If its such a big deal, which it really isn't, then kick them out for testing positive. Guarantee you'll have less players testing positive after that. P.S mike florio is an idiot. Just wanted everyone including him to know

Wow. The dopers & race-baiters doth protest too much. There's absolutely nothing wrong with weed, that's the reason for all the ultra defensive comments from all you knuckhead stoners, right? If you'll put down your pipes & roaches for just a minute & read through the article again, you'll see Florio doesn't condemn marijuana usage. Whether or not it's ultimately good or bad for you isn't even the point of the article. It's illegal, friends & neighbors. As such, NFL teams rightly don't want their team image associated with it. That's THEIR choice. Noone is saying Mike Adams can't do what he wants to do on his own time, he just won't be eligible for the big money that obviously isn't as important to him as the weed. Think about that for a moment all you marijuana apologists out there-Adams KNEW he was going to be tested, KNEW he would test positive, & KNEW it could likely cost him millions of dollars in unrealized earning over the length of his (now in doubt) NFL career....hmmm.... almost sounds like compulsive, if not ADDICTIVE behavior, huh? Nobody to blame but himself. Either way- stupidity is colorblind, just like addiction.

I agree pot is addictive, just as alcohol is.
-Are there alcoholics in the NFL? Of course there are. -Are there players that have a few beers only on their off days? Of course there are.
-Are there players in the NFL addicted to pot? Of course there are.
-Are there players that toke a bit only on there days off? Of course there are.
-Does both pot and alcohol affect judgement? Of course they do when you are under the influence.

But people think it is acceptable to drink alcohol on those off days (and maybe even on game days), but yet they believe it is just an all out terrible thing to smoke weed on an off day??? Sure smoking weed is illegal, but to just flat out categorize all weed use as detrimental to play and training and character is just not right. I believe the "off day" smoker is no different than the "off day" drinker.

I also believe drinking alcohol, which leads to hangovers and dehydration, does more to hamper a players training than an occasional "off day" buzz.

Why single out pot use but not dig into alcohol use by players? Same difference......no?

Lol watch the documentary called The Union. After you see that, anyone who had a hate on for pot is just another puppet.
FYI cigarettes WILL kill approximately 500,000 Americans this year.
Alcohol will kill 2,500,000 people world wide this year.

Marijuana will kill ZERO, NONE, NOT 1 person.

However, it will HELP thousands of people with hundreds of painful debilitating terminal illnesses.

Start making your OWN opinions and not just what the government says.

OH NO! NOT POT! That evil, evil plant. What was God thinking when he decided to let that evil plant flourish on this planet? When are people going to get real about this issue? The fact that we still treat this as a serious, career threatening offense is beyond retarted! So the guy smoked some weed.....as long as he doesn't show up to work high then who gives a rats a$$. Football players, of all people, should be required to smoke pot. Or are pills and injections better??

Lions fan here....I hope we take him off our board. We have enough pot heads already. I mean, if he couldn't stop long enough to pass the combine test, he is an addict.

Yes, I agree - legalize it. But until then, it is illegal and banned by the NFL. I'd like whomever we draft to actually play for us. We've had enough of Charles Rogers.
