The latest concussion lawsuit against the NFL has been filed by a guy who likely knows more than he care to about the legal system.
Former Packers tight end Mark Chmura, who stood trial for rape in 2001, is the lead plaintiff in a 28-player complaint filed Thursday in Philadelphia by Gene Locks of the Locks Law Firm. The complaint is available at NFLConcussionLitigation.com.
The other big name from the latest crop of players-turned-plaintiffs belongs to Raghib “Rocket” Ismail, a star at Notre Dame who shocked the NFL by opting to start his pro career in Canada, and who eventually had a 10-year career with the Raiders, Panthers, and Cowboys -- twice generating more than 1,000 receiving yards.
The other former players are Eric Bassey, Fakhir Brown, Ed Budde, Albert Carmichael, Eugene Ceppetelli, Jeff Christy, Glen Collins, Dave D’Addio, Chad Eaton, Lawrence Estes, Solomon Freelon, Keith Griffin, Paul Gruber, James Lamont Hall, Michael Harden, Dana Howard, Kenard Lang, Theodore McKnight, Jason Phillips, Glenn Ressler, Donald Rives, Roy Shivers, Sidney Thornton, Philip Vandersea, Edward Lee West III, and Michael C. Williams.
The latest lawsuit pushes the total number of former players suing the NFL for concussions above 1,200.
