I feel as if people are acting like the players are stupid and didn’t realize there were risks. The issue of personal risk isn’t what is being fought over, it is the question of what the NFL’s research showed and when. If the NFL knew the extent of long term effects and did not inform the players or implant protections, they are liable for puttin the players in further jeopardy by omission of facts from players.
______

Well said. When you have a player whose team doctor told the head coach, "he had a concussion, but it cleared by halftime," you can quickly mount a case that the NFL knew more about the risk than players did and that knowledge was withheld (I can't imagine a real doctor believing a concussion clears in a matter of minutes).

On the other hand, it would be silly to not see that there are some players who are viewing this as a shot at a quick payday. We can thank the McDonald's coffee lady for that; there appears to be no such thing as a "frivilous" lawsuit anymore. But if the list of plaintiffs gets much longer, no one's going to get much of anything even if the players win.

Bunch of well heeled fan feedback here.
Any of you have loved ones suffering from dementia or CTE resulting from concussions???

Maybe all of you never realized or understood how the NFL conducted it's concussion tests or allowed players to just go back into games without telling them they are risking permanent brian damage.
How about up until 2002 assured players there was no evidence of potential brian damage amongst players as the results of concussions??
Yet you sit there and complain about how much money and fame these guys have, pathetic, all of you.
How many more guys need to turn a gun on themselves to prove the point? You think all these guys were just ambulance chasing and have their hands out for the NFL's billions???

It amazes me how cynical and naive fans are when it comes to not knowing or caring for another player/humans health. What if it was your son or father that decided it was better to blow his head off then live with the effects of brain damage caused by the NFL not properly educating and warning players of the REAL risks of playing with concussions. Players don't have medical degrees. They trust their trainers and doctors. let me ask you fans this, when your doctor tells you not to drink anymore more to have less drinks because you’re going to die of liver failure at an early age, do you listen or say hell with it, i want to have a good time and leave this earth and my family much earlier than I should have. Oh wait the players are just looking for a money grab not to be takern care of properly or given the aid they need for their family once all their vital organs start failing.
Shame on you uneducated, heartless, morons.

Perfect analogy.

Ya, not so perfect.

Back in the day, there was no mention of it being bad for you, none at all.

Will they be suing their college too? How can they determine that the actual starting point of a concussion. I mean you take hits in high school n college. Dont tell me the hits are harder because when you 13 14 and the 18 yr old senior is lighting you up it has an effect. Same in College. It's all relative to size and age.

What the NFL needs to do is have EVERY rookie coming into the league, starting with this years crop, sign a written agreement saying that they all KNOW AND UNDERSTAND the risks they are taking playing professional football. That agreement should include concussions and any other injury that could happen in the field of play. If the player does not agree and sign the contract then he will not be allowed to play in the NFL. They can go play in the CFL and sue them. Also the NFL should re-work the IR policy to where if a player suffers a concussion they should be put on the new IR. Lets say for arguements sake its a 6 week IR. Any player who suffers a concussion will be placed on the 6 week IR, no player who gets a concussion can play for that 6 weeks and must be cleared by at least 2 independant doctors before retaking the field..

That is exactly right. The NFL is right concerning themselves but it should have all been kept in-house, never publically field questions, just keep data and details if ever needed.

Everytime it's talked about it is publicity to sue.

The NFL can make you rich, but I also have seen a lot of players leave with regret and anger and we'll that leads them here. They didn't just lose a $10 an hour job.

This to me has been Goodell's biggest flaw and one which he seriously could be reviewed and canned over. The part about fines and suspensions gets most fans in a tizzy, he to powerful! This is the thing that can cost 100's of millions and is a good leason for us out here, DON'T ADVERTISE YOUR FLAWS, DON'T FIELD QUESTIONS ON YOUR FLAWS!

Serious, serious mistake they made.

I am curious to see the financial records of all these clowns suing the NFL. Notice guys like Steve Young and Troy Aikman who actually had careers ended by concussions are not suing?

I am willing to be 80% of these guys are broke or have little money or basically wasted the millions many of them made. Whats next? A lawsuit because the NFL knew ACL tears were a serious injury?

When will a judge do the right thing and throw these players out of the court room with yesterdays trash

Note to current players ... Pay me now AND pay me later. These lawsuits are ridiculous. I'm hoping that they're all dismissed without foundation.

What the NFL needs now is a better medical plan cofunded by the NFL and NFLPA. Begin to take out a percentage of current players' money
matched by the teams. Then there won't be any bling-wearing, teeth-grilled ex-players from the 70's walking around in shoes with goldfish in the high heels bumming cigarettes and spare change on every corner.

Will we look back on 2012 as the year where litigation ignited the end of football as we know it? I don't think fans understand the implication of this. When either side wins, we all will lose. Pandora's box has been opened by litigation. Seemingly endlessly deep pockets will be attacked for every conceivable injury? New rules to over protect and minimize violent collisions will forever change the way the game is played and concerned parents will have their children play safer and less violent sports, diluting the talent pool. These 1200 players, representing a fraction of the historical football population, are contributing to football doomsday. Sad.
