"Even if the slow roll-out of the details is getting old, I’m enjoying watching the Saints twist in the wind at the end of that ginormous asterisk!"

BUT

Ultimately, this is working to the Saints advantage by infuriating them and instilling a hyper-sense of comradarie and brotherhood - which we all know is a scary thing. Reality check: Their record setting offense, and best winning percentage over the last three years is returning virtually intact, plus now, their pissed as hell at Goodell for targeting them with the delayed suspensions until after the draft, giving them an early bye week that intentionlly extends the Coach's suspension, etc.

So the real question is, jluns275, How much will you enjoy watching Goodell hand the Saints their 2nd Lombardi Trophy right there on the 50 yard line in New Orleans?

The issue is that there was intent to injure by specifically targeting some players and their previous injuries and offering up incentive......If you can’t see that due to fanboy blinders or a distorted view of what the game is all about, then there is not much hope for you.

Very well said FinFan

It's laughable...a couple posters have stated that they are still "Frustrated" about spygate.

YIKES, you people have to get a life...move on. Spygate was 6 years ago.

With a media cycle 24/7, news gets shifted into the background in the blink of an eye.

That's why Saints fans need to get everything out in the open NOW, serve the punishment ASAP and move on.

All you are doing is prolonging the agony. Get it behind you and move on, the sooner the better.

Be ready for everytime the Saints are on national TV the commentators will want you to know what's on their mind (even though you don't give a darn) Like, what is on their minds has some kind of importance to something.

Anyway, I digress....move on, get it behind you and forget about it. Stop WHINING. It is unbecoming and fruitless.

To think money didnt change hands with the players specially with the involvement by Peyton with that felon is delusional.

This has nothing to do with Peyton.

It may help if, when trying to refer to the Saints disgraced head coach, to just think of the PAY that was the incentive for participating in the bounty program. PAYton.

im sure no one has ever had purple leg after a football game unless there was a bounty on him as well right florio?

again i say who cares? they get paid to hurt and be hurt , i bet half the people that wants the hammer dropped on everyone involved was in marching band in high school, and dont realize that if you hurt the other teams best player it increases your chances of winning, so im sure that was their mindset even before 10k was dropped on a table before a game

i watch the game of football for the strategy, the athleticism, and the violence in no particuler order get off your high horses and admit to yourself thats why you watch to and thats what you want and expect to see every sunday

So let me get this straight: hitting someone in a legal way that breaks their leg or injures them… perfectly fine in professional football (Hey injuries are part of the game, right?) On the other hand, hitting someone in a legal way that breaks their leg or injures them, AND collecting a grand or two on the side from teammates or coaches… totally unethical and deserving of life-time bans from the sport? You people are all P(U)SSIES!… it’s as simple as that. Lawrence Taylor, Singletary, Jack Lambert, Ray Lewis, James Harrison… ALL CRIMINALS! Give me an f’n break. Grow up… this is football. You people are all contributing to the changes being made to this game on a weekly basis by faking disgust for these “bounties”… which have been around since the sport began. These people play a SPORT for a living… they play a GAME… for nothing other than ENTERTAINMENT value. They’re modern-day circus performers when you really think about it. If they don’t want a broken leg or concussions every week, they should work in a factory or office like every other person on this planet who wasn’t blessed with the ability to PLAY A GAME for a living! Stop acting so damn smug by pretending you care about the safety of people who make millions of dollars a year from PLAYING A GAME! Pretty soon defense is going to be eliminated altogether (the kick-off might be gone soon too). We’ll be watching 7-on-7 drills, arena-type games in the NFL soon. Is that what you people want? P(U)SSIES! Seriously, grow up.

How old were you when your Mom gave birth?
Toolin' toolin' toolin' down the river.
You ARE the reason every birthing bed should have a 5 gallon bucket next to it.

Geeech all these Saints fans that get on this “Where’s the Proof” kick, were saying the same thing before the Williams tapes were released.
-------------------------------------
So then answer the question. "Where is the proof?" Not "Where is the speech?" Where is the proof? Where are the hits? Where are the cart offs?

See, I am not a Saints fan, but I have this thing about American justice where I think someone who makes a charge and carries out a penalty against someone should not be able to get away with saying, "Just take my word for it." They should have to produce the evidence.

By contrast, did you see the NHL's detailed review of evidence concerning Rafi Torres before they suspended him for 25 games? Puts the NFL to shame.

And finally, has the NFL even asked the question about whether the 49ers had a bounty system in place for their playoff game with the Saints? Because for all the hand wringing about Gregg Williams' speech, the only hit that resulted in someone having to leave that game was Donte Whitner's helmet to helmet on Pierre Thomas. For that, he paraded around on the field, got praised by the press for having "set the tone" for the rest of the game, and praised by fans because it was the latest example of the 49ers having knocked six running backs out last season. Boy, the hypocrisy around here knows no bounds.

Greg Williams history with his Bounty defense is well documented and it's not like the players at each team came up with the idea of bounties as an incentive to crank up the defensive hitting.

The NFL has trouble overcoming the fact that it was Coach Williams who implemented his Bounty system at each coaching stop.

Did the players participate...yep

The Boss says do it and the players did their best to please their coach.

If the players had implemented the Bounty defensive incentives, it would make the NFL's case against the players stronger...but the facts do not support any such claim.

saints4evah,
Nice rant...too bad it is irrelevant. You used the word "victim", not me, but you decided to complain about the preconceived notion within your own head. I said target because that is exactly what they were. The issue is that there was intent to injure by specifically targeting some players and their previous injuries and offering up incentive based pay (furnished by coaches, players and even outsiders) in a bounty pool. That has nothing to do with hard-hitting football and the concept is beyond the norm. Most coaches give speeches designed to fire-up/motivate their players. Williams crossed the line and some players were complicit as well. That is not part of the game we all enjoy. If you can't see that due to fanboy blinders or a distorted view of what the game is all about, then there is not much hope for you.

So let me get this straight: hitting someone in a legal way that breaks their leg or injures them... perfectly fine in professional football (Hey injuries are part of the game, right?) On the other hand, hitting someone in a legal way that breaks their leg or injures them, AND collecting a grand or two on the side from teammates or coaches... totally unethical and deserving of life-time bans from the sport? If they don't want a broken leg or concussions every week, they should work in a factory or office like every other person on this planet who wasn't blessed with the ability to PLAY A GAME for a living! Stop acting so damn smug by pretending you care about the safety of people who make millions of dollars a year from PLAYING A GAME! Pretty soon defense is going to be eliminated altogether (the kick-off might be gone soon too). We'll be watching 7-on-7 drills, arena-type games in the NFL soon.
The NFL has offered to give back Sean Payton some money back if he "complies" with the league and goes around giving speeches about how evil bounty programs are and that people should not do what he has done. Per the NFL's official statement:

"The club and the individuals will be expected to cooperate in any further proceedings and to assist in the development and implementation of programs to instruct players and coaches at all levels on principles of player safety, fair play, and sportsmanship.

"If they embrace the opportunity and participate in a constructive way, Commissioner Goodell said he would consider mitigating the financial penalties on the individuals. In the case of the team, the commissioner would consider whether there are factors that would support modifying the forfeiture of the team's 2013 second-round draft choice."

Thing is, Sean never admitted to having anything to do with the bounty program. He was punished for lack of institutional control.

Some may see the NFL giving Sean a chance to make back some of his salary as being generous. I view it as the NFL trying to coerce him into admitting more than he is guilty of in the scandal and becoming the poster boy for reform, that sort of thing. So, when the NFLPA worries that the league is trying to coerce players into admitting things without providing any evidence, I'm all for them standing up or the players. I'm not saying some players don't deserve to be punished - they probably do. I'm just saying that while Goodell can suspend Payton for a year with no questions asked, I don't blame the NFLPA for asking for more proof in the form of specific injuries, and specific instances of payment for injuries.

By the way, Mike, Farve didn't even miss a play. Most (but not all) of the hits on Farve that night were legal as well. If they want proof of a bounty program, they're gonna have to do better than Farve getting his ankle wrapped between plays.

Last, I'm sure Drew Brees (who is on the NFLPA committee) wants to see ALL the evidence. If Goodell felt like he had enough to suspend Payton for a full YEAR for a "lack of institutional control" ...then he should have some pretty strong evidence of a bounty program. In addition to the players defense, he wants to see what Goodell really has on Payton. If there really isn't much evidence there, Payton might have some legal recourse to say that the league is trying to coerce him into admitting to things that he was no direct part of.

FinFin68
Fair enough, but who exactly is defending the NFLPA members that were targets of the bounty program?
--------------------
That's the point, the NFLPA is trying to figure out the FACTS before advising either way. Just release the documents, Goodell. Why open ANOTHER investigation if there is such concrete evidence to support the harshest penalties in the history of the league?

I don't understand why everyone doesn't want to see what the NFL discovered. If it damns the Saints, good, it will help educate the league against dirty play. If not, then it damns the league for conducting a witch-hunt in New Orleans to provide cover in these lawsuits from former players.

Fair enough, but who exactly is defending the NFLPA members that were targets of the bounty program?
——————–
That’s the point, the NFLPA is trying to figure out the FACTS before advising either way. Just release the documents, Goodell. Why open ANOTHER investigation if there is such concrete evidence to support the harshest penalties in the history of the league?

Geeech all these Saints fans that get on this "Where's the Proof" kick, were saying the same thing before the Williams tapes were released.

Message to Saints fans: You may as well accept the reality, that the Saints organization was in the wrong and they have to pay for the crime. Quit whining for heaven sakes.

You sound like a bunch of sick blind cats that keep crying for food that is placed right under your nose.

It really gets tiring.
