As the Cowboys finalize their draft board, they won’t have to worry about possibly finding a short-term replacement for linebacker Anthony Spencer.
The team announced that Spencer has signed his one-year franchise tender.
A first-round pick in 2007, Spencer has started 47 of the last 48 games. He has 21.5 career sacks.
Spencer is now under contract and obligated to attend all mandatory offseason workouts and training camp. He also can be traded, in theory.
Tendered at the lower level of linebacker, there was a possibility that Spencer could claim that he is in actuality a defensive end. It’s unknown whether that argument was made, or whether the tender was adjusted.
