Deion Sanders cited for assault

Getty Images

After a Monday altercation with his estranged wife, Pilar, it appeared that Hall of Fame cornerback Deion Sanders would be facing no criminal charges.

It appeared wrong.

The Associated Press reports that Deion Sanders has been charged with misdemeanor simple assault.  Pilar Sanders also faces a misdemeanor assault charge.  She was arrested; Deion wasn’t.

Deion posted messages about the incident on Twitter.  He also posted a photo of his children filling out police reports.  (The photo was later deleted.)

During his 2010 Hall of Fame induction speech, Sanders specifically thanked his wife, Pilar, for putting up with him “because I’m not easy to deal with.”  (She was seen on camera saying in response with a smile, “You’re not.”)

Speaking of cameras, Deion Sanders is scheduled to be part of NFL Network’s draft coverage.  It’s unknown whether the assault charge changes that.

Deion is such a piece of garbage and hypocrite.
Great football player… but that’s where anything good ends. That’s why there is an “i” smack in the middle of his name. Cause it’s ALL about himself.

If you don’t believe me, just ask him.

His compulsive narcissism made a very private family incident into poor me, me and pray for my chiren…and ME. “I’m gonna press charges” how christian of him (son fill this report out about your momma)

It’s doubtful, but maybe one day the NFL netwrk, Espn will rethink hiring turds like Deion, Sapp, Hoge,Irvin, I think if they took a poll, 95% of the viewing audience would agree that these guys turn people off with their loudmouth, arrogant comments, then when they screw up it discredits the network. Leave the announcing to announcers not Dum bass former players.

  40. nathanbetz91 says: Apr 25, 2012 2:59 AM

At nineroutsider: you are an idiot. First off as an advisor to Crabtree, deion Sanders did nothing wrong, if anything he screwed dez Bryant over by getting him suspended at ok state. And second if two parents are arguing, they have a right to do that in their home. Because in order to protect thier kids from it they would have to go somewhere else to argue, and then it would be you who complains that they were caught arguing In a wendys parking lot. And you’d probably make a stupid comment like keep your personal marital problems to yourself, or keep it in your house. Dumbass.

I don’t like Deon either. The man preaches about our Lord while walking around acting like it’s all about the bling. But I am not going to gloat over a family having personal problems. These two were married for a while and have a nice family. A decent person should not be enjoying this story.

  47. bbk1000 says: Apr 25, 2012 5:43 AM

The NFL survives in spite of itself and their marketing gimmicks.

They put on the ridiculous halftime show because they think fans like it, not because they are trying to reach casual fans.

They stick these incredibly stupid and troubled personalities on their NFL network because they think fans like it, which in my experience is wrong.

Talk about a league more out of touch with the fan base that supports them. Just shows how good a product they have.

  48. nokoolaidcowboy says: Apr 25, 2012 5:49 AM

How ironic that Irvin, so far, has kept his nose clean (pun intended) lately, while his two homies can’t get out of the way of themselves.

Everytime I try to listen to the senseless ramblings of Sapp, Sanders, and Irvin, my ears bleed.
I can never replace the dead brain cells lost in those brief 5 minutes that feel like hours, turn the channel to ESPN, feel the same way, and hope it’s Eisen or Mariucci or Warner, GUYS YOU CAN ACTUALLY UNDERSTAND!!!!

Domestic altercations: Always is about the heat of emotions at the time, then the emotions subside and people don’t feel the same about pressing charges later, as the angry emotions aren’t the same days later. I.E. deleting a picture and posted messages after clearer heads are prevailing. Things like this between parents or step parents like she was in front of children scar kids for life. Also, when one parent in the public eye through their profession do a real dis-service to their own career when they push their private family difficulties and struggles out into the world through the media or social media. Since he is famous, he should have hired a public relations director and only communicate through their agency when not at work on the set on TV. It would certainly be a lot smarter than what he did here.

What the heck is going on this offseason?
It’s like watching a tennis game go back & forth between the Saints & NFLN in a contest to see who can look worse:
Everytime you see a new Saints scandal break (bounties, bounty penalties, Bill Parcels possible return to coaching, Drew Brees’ & Joe Vitt’s unabashed bounty denials, GM Mickey Loomis’ espionage/illegal wiretapping), it is immediately followed up with someone on NFLN looking or sounding too stupid to live (Sanders assault charge, Sapp ‘snitching’ on alleged ‘snitch’ Shockey & being invited by NFLN to discuss it on air, NFLN “Top 10 Heisman Winners” featuring Tim Tebow & Cam Newton., etc).
This offseason, NFLN has mimicked ESPN in becoming just another 4 letter word by pandering to specific fanbases, stars, or divisions, & doing &/or allowing seemingly anything & everything to manufacture drama where it does not naturally exist.
I used to brag to my friends & coworkers because I had NFLN, & most of them didn’t.
I’m not bragging so much lately…

Just because he is charged does not mean he is guilty. His wife probably made a police statement saying she was a victim trying to cover her own behind. The police have to pursue any claims made. Having the kids fill out a report is the right thing to do. Whether you like it or not they are part of this mess.
