Willing to bet I know Bradshaw's history with the team better than you do. Bradshaw has said a lot of things about that arm in 1983. First, he wanted to leave the team for a movie career. Then he wanted to come back. Then the team "forced" him to come back before he was ready and ended his career. Finally, he admitted that he lied to the team about the scope of his injury. As a result of that, the Steelers passed up Dan Marino in the draft.

Terry's history with the Steelers is complex both because it's a brutal fan base and because Terry is a complex man with a lot of personal demons.

My resentment of this conversation and your silly comments is that you don't give a damn about Terry Bradshaw and are stupid enough to think I'd be misdirected just because of that example  I've never denied that Steelers fans can be brutal jerks. The point is that we don't have any more jerks or fair-weather fans in our fan base than any other team.

Bully for you that you support the team win or lose. Me, too. I was just as vocally loyal during the pitiful 80s as I am today. But just as many of your fans drop out when the team is losing as our fans. In fact, given the long running sell-out record at Three Rivers, I'd say Pittsburgh can honestly claim a pretty loyal fan base. At the end of the day, your knickers are in a knot for one reason: You hate this rival team. So stop trying to make it sound like some moral crusade.

It wasn't just at the beginning. It was during the middle & at the end, too.

Bradshaw has mention numerous times how after his elbow injury in 1983 the team pressured him to return before he was totally healed. He did & he re-injured it & his career ended. That's why he refused to return to Pittsburgh for like 20 years:

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/vault/article/magazine/MAG1140520/index.htm

Also ask Bradshaw how "classy" the Steeler fans were when they cheered Turkey Jones of the Bengals when he broke Bradshaw's collarbone in 1976 at 3 Rivers. It's a famous play you can watch on YouTube. Yup, classy fan base. They were cheering because the team was like 1 -4 at the time & things didn't look good so when Bradshaw got body slammed & hurt, the "classy" Pittsburgh crowd cheered.

I've know many Steeler fans since 1977 & the majority are obnoxious goofs who brag on the team at nauseum when the team's good but then hide when the team sucks.

I follow my teams whether they are doing well or not. If they do well, I'm happy but without rubbing other fans' noses in it. When they are bad, I don't hide the fact I like them.

Most Steeler fans I know aren't like that.

Okay, you've got me ... I don't watch Adult Swim. And yes, a lot of fans will defend anything the team or players do, but that is just as true for Ravens fans as Steelers fans. It's true of every fan base (good grief, look at the blind nonsense Saints fans have posted in the face of e-mails and recordings). That's why it's annoying to have people act as though only Steelers fans can be loyal to a fault. To me, the Rooneys are great owners--that's where the class comes in. As a fan base, we have the same positives and negatives, the same great fans and jerks, as any other team.

holeinone09 ends his posts with GO STEELERS because he supports the team. But his posts demonstrate tremendous football knowledge. Why should the tagline negate the content? I defended Roethlisberger on the assault accusations after thoroughly researching the evidence and finding it supported his innocence--a conclusion also reached by the authorities. But I also defend Ray Lewis. And I'm a huge critic of Roethlisberger's general behavior and idiotic comments. I'm a Harrison fan, but still called for him to be suspended a game for his comments to Men's Journal last year.

Steelers fans did rip Mendenhall when this story came out. I cringed at his comments, but in truth he's only guilty of being ignorant in his understanding of world events and too stupid to realize public figures can't tweet without consequences. As with most similar stories involving NFL players, the whole thing has been overblown. Who cares what a football player privately thinks about 9/11? No matter how wrongheaded it is, he's entitled to his opinion.

You hate the Steelers, so you want to pretend our fans are sooo much worse than anyone else's, and that's not the case. And Bradshaw was abused at the beginning of his Pittsburgh career, not the end. He struggles himself with being "classy" at times.

djstat , what are you smoking? Lewis plead guilty to obstruction of justice in order in order to have the other charges dropped. Ward plead guilty to reckless driving. Roethisberger settled out of the Nevada CIVIL case because the settlement was less than the cost to defend himself and the evidence was in his favor. Roethlisberger did not pay the woman in Georgia because there was not enough evidence of rape after she changed her story 3 times. So where did you come up with that Lewis had his charges dropped, Ward was convicted of drunk driving and Roethlisberger paid off girls that he raped? Harrison is a cheap-artist according to you, however, the Ravens put bounties on Ward & Roethlisberger in 2008 and that is okay I guess......Suggs even admitted it until the NFL threatened to investigate at the time. And I am not defending anyone because I fee Roethlisberger is/was a giant douche and Harrison has a big mouth.

I have been a Steelers fan for 30 years, but Mendenhall is a joke. This guy cannot run a simple play without running into his own blocker or spinning for lost yardage. He cost them a comeback in the Super Bowl against the Packers and he is too inconsistent. Then he runs his mouth about Bin Laden. I understand what he was "trying" to say but because he is an idiot, he deserves what he is getting. I believe that he will never carry another ball for the Steelers, depending on the draft, and that is fine with me. The Steelers ownership and 95% of their players are classy, eggers. Read about the speeches and letters written by Chris Hoke and Aaron Smith after they retired this past year. Sure, the Steelers have Roethlisberger, Mendenhall and Harrison acting like idiots, but this is not typical of the rest of the team and it is not promoted by the organization. If these guys were on the Ravens, the Ravens' fans would praise them. I could care less what they say or do off the field, just play football.

There are plenty of guys who blindly defend any & every Steeler player no matter what and YOU know it. Don't bury your head in the sand.

Don't tell me this place has no blind Steeler homers. There are guys who make posts that end with "GO STEELERS" in EVERY post. Either they are big time homers or they are 8 years old.

And take a hard look at how plenty of Steeler fans here make excuses every time Big Ben or Harrison or (until recently) Ward did or said something stupid. You can't tell me that if those players were on the Ravens instead of the Steelers that Pittsburgh fans wouldn't be posting the same stuff about them the non-Steeler fans post now. If I hear 1 more Steeler fan claim the franchise is "classy" I'll puke. Ask Bradshaw how "classy" they were towards him at the end of his career.

As far as my screen name goes, if you ever watched Adult Swim's "Sealab 2021" you would probably know what that is all about. That's where it is from.

Why do I get the feeling that the Pittsburgh fans here who are defending this guy would be crushing him if he were on the Ravens instead of the Steelers?

If he was on my team, I would be ripping him anyways.

This BS of blindly defending the players on your team no matter what they say or do makes you look like the foolish homers you are. Any time a player on any of my teams do anything outrageous, I rip them and if what they said or did is truly bad enough, I want them off the team. I don't care if they are a star or the last guy on the bench.

Glad I'm not a Steeler fan. Too many guys doing and saying bad things that give the organization a black eye. Half the team would be gone.

By the way everybody, there is no freedom of speech against the government anymore thanks to the Patriot Act. It’s a very interesting read to say the least. You would be shocked at what can be done to you.

next person who refers to freedom of speech as having ANYTHING to do with this needs to run straight into a bus and rid the earth of your dumb a**. Freedom of speech applies to the govt, not businesses; meaning, if you say something ridiculously unpopular like Mendenhall, Champion can drop him immediately. Not only can they say this disparaged the company's reputation, but most endorsement contracts contain clauses that the endorser has the right to terminate the contract at any time for any reason. These contracts are meant not to guarantee anything to the person they endorse, so that when incidents like this happen, they can immediately cut ties, and move on.

All the judge ruled on is that the breach of contract claim was a plausible cause of action brought by a correct party and now Champion needs to answer the complaint. That's all

Surprised this is moving forward. As others have mentioned, the First Amendment guarantees that government won't infringe on our right to speak freely. It's not carte blanche to speak without consequences from our employers. But the judge is deciding based on the terms of Mendenhall's specific contract with Champion. And while we can speculate all we want, I doubt any of us has read the actual contract.

And while I completely disagree with Mendenhall's comments on 9/11, he wasn't running around preaching politics. He was having an offhand conversation with a few Twitter followers that some bored sports reporters turned into a BIG STORY. He was about 10 when the towers fell. Sadly, since then he's probably been exposed to more conspiracy nonsense in the media than he has rational discussion of the event.

All of these comments, but none of us have seen the actual contract that the plaintiff says was breached. The lawsuit is not specifically about free speech, conspiracies, or football. One side says the other side didn't keep their written promise.
Wrong. The Architect Designer admitted that he never, ever thought that hijackers would fly jets loaded with jet fuel into the towers. He was saddened as he blamed himself partially for never thinking about his situation.

You obviously know nothing about metal, about heat from jet fuel, about engineering, about welding, about bolting, about weight.

Steelfan:

I know nothing about metal or heat from jet fuel? You're an idiot! Jet fuel burns at 800-1500degrees, not enough to melt steel (2777 degrees). However, steel loses about 50% of its strength at 1100degrees, even with that, there simply wouldn't be enough fuel to weaken that much steel over 70 floors. You no nothing about physics or science, so go back to your cave ya duche! You probably think we invaded Iraq because they had WOMD! LOL! What a joke u are...

The interesting part of this story is not the legal side regarding free speech or whether Mendenhall breached his contract, but the comments itself; claiming that the towers collapse weren’t caused by hijacked planes. I must admit, at the time i thought Mendenhall was an idiot for such foolish comments. However, as more facts come out about 9/11 and how the towers actually collapsed, Mendenhall doesn’t look like an idiot any more. Our gov’t was definitely behind the world trade centers collapse. For any of you who think our gov’t isn’t capable of such horrific acts against its own people, you simply don’t understand the real history of our country and the lengths our country will go through to start a war for the sake of money. The investigation and evidence that the “Architects & Engineers for 9/11 Truth” provide is a must read for ALL.

Freedom of Speech in the U.S.A. is GONE! If you don’t say what’s “politically correct” then you are judged as wrong! The truth no longer matters as it’s all about ‘saying the RIGHT thing’!

I don't understand why people don't get it.
It is not against freedom of speech. You can say whatever you want but there are consequences. Someone may not want them to represent you (that too is a freedom). Both are voluntary acts (unless specified in contract).

Hey Mendenhall, like most football players, you are a POS. Like most steeler fans, you are ignorant and underachieve. I can promise you though, the nightmares of Haloti Ngata will not stop. You will forever be haunted. Anyone who cheers for this man should take a long look at themselves in the mirror. I would never want this guy on my team. RIH.
--------------------
Ray Lewis knocked Mendenhall out for most of 2008. I don't recall if Ngata was even able to knock him out of the game. It's possible, the score was lopsided in BAL's favor at that point so they might have yanked him. Pretty sure the Ravens are just ordinary professional football players, doing their jobs like the rest. Panhandle for some bus fare this summer and go to training camp to meet some of these guys, you might be surprised (possibly disappointed) that they are human after all.

Ray Lewis knocked Mendenhall out for most of 2008. I don’t recall if Ngata was even able to knock him out of the game. It’s possible, the score was lopsided in BAL’s favor at that point so they might have yanked him. Pretty sure the Ravens are just ordinary professional football players, doing their jobs like the rest. Panhandle for some bus fare this summer and go to training camp to meet some of these guys, you might be surprised (possibly disappointed) that they are human after all.

The interesting part of this story is not the legal side regarding free speech or whether Mendenhall breached his contract, but the comments itself; claiming that the towers collapse weren't caused by hijacked planes. I must admit, at the time i thought Mendenhall was an idiot for such foolish comments. However, as more facts come out about 9/11 and how the towers actually collapsed, Mendenhall doesn't look like an idiot any more. Our gov't was definitely behind the world trade centers collapse. For any of you who think our gov't isn't capable of such horrific acts against its own people, you simply don't understand the real history of our country and the lengths our country will go through to start a war for the sake of money. The investigation and evidence that the "Architects & Engineers for 9/11 Truth" provide is a must read for ALL.

By the way everybody, there is no freedom of speech against the government anymore thanks to the Patriot Act. It's a very interesting read to say the least. You would be shocked at what can be done to you.

Even free speech has exceptions. I can't go into a crowded movie theater and yell, "Fire." To Champion, and more importantly their "image," this is EXACTLY what Mendenhall did.
