Dolphins not expected to trade up for Tannehill

It’s been pretty well established that Dolphins owner Stephen Ross wants his team to draft Texas A&M quarterback Ryan Tannehill. But the Dolphins aren’t falling over themselves to get him.

In a Wednesday blog post, Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald stated confidently that the Dolphins “are not going to trade up” for Tannehill. While Salguero concedes that the Fins think enough of Tannehill to draft him with the eighth pick, they apparently don’t fear another team leapfrogging into the top seven to secure this year’s third-rated signal caller.

Per Salguero, the Dolphins consider Tannehill a “project.” Teams don’t typically view developmental projects as worthy of top-ten picks, but Miami has a built-in advantage because it’s running virtually the same offense in which Tannehill played at the college level.

Therefore, Tannehill may have a better chance to thrive with the Dolphins, and pay off as a top-eight pick down the line.

Report: Dolphins hoping and praying to draft anyone

  2. jaxdolfan says: Apr 25, 2012 4:46 PM

Yep. they can afford to use a first round pick on a “project” with “potential” in a few years to turn out ot be a decent NFL quarterback…they have David Garrard.

    Yikes.

  3. realdealsteel says: Apr 25, 2012 4:46 PM

They shouldn’t trade up for him either. He’s not worth it. Tannehill is no better then the kid from Michigan State.

  4. effosugoblue says: Apr 25, 2012 4:47 PM

Yes we know. Dolphins are interested in Tannenhill and not trading up to get him.

  5. saddolfinfan says: Apr 25, 2012 4:48 PM

i just want the draft to be over so i can stop reading these pointless articles about what the dolphins will or wont do about tannehill, i hope someone trades up and grabs him at 3 so I dont have to wait two hours to see the dolphins blow it

  6. maniakalol says: Apr 25, 2012 4:49 PM

Wow it was almost 3 hours before another Dolphins-Tannehil “report”. This site might be getting better!

  7. donterrelli says: Apr 25, 2012 4:49 PM

How many more Ryan Tannehill to the Dolphins stories will there be before tomorrow night?! sheesh

  8. agelardi says: Apr 25, 2012 4:51 PM

I hope to God the Fins are right on this if that is their thinking. That’s a HUGE gamble with #8.

PFT running the same tired old story 15 times means their claims must be true. Ohh wait Adam Schefter and Peter King also chimed in on this and they are never wrong……What a joke.

  10. cnyphinfan says: Apr 25, 2012 4:51 PM

as much as I would love the dolphins to finally spend a first round pick on a QB, I am dreading this pick……..I think that Matt Moore showed enough to go play ball with him this year – with Garrard as backup/spot starter.
And if it blows up and they are horrible, Matt Barkley is there next year – and I think he is every bit a franchise QB.
Would much rather spend the #8 pick upgrading the weapons on our offense outside of QB

  11. brenenostler says: Apr 25, 2012 4:51 PM

Funny how all these teams are pretending to be interested in Tannehill so Ireland will panic and move up.

  12. doctorfootball says: Apr 25, 2012 4:53 PM

Let’s just hope that having Todd Mcshay love you so much isn’t as bad as having Mel Kiper love you. Kiper was so in love with Jimmy Clausen. And now, Mcshay is showering Tannehill with terms like “Franchise quarterback.”

  15. mc9399 says: Apr 25, 2012 4:54 PM

LOL pft now spewing more garbage, i want us to draft tannehill but there has been NO indication of such a thing, florio started all this crap too.

  16. faulkana says: Apr 25, 2012 4:55 PM

Actually, Tannehill would have a REALLY big advantage because the Dolphins are running the same offense that he played during JV High School.

Ireland does not panic. He is actually very stuborn and set in his ways. Hate him or love him, he is very consistent and even keel.

So glad when tommorow is over and we aren’t subjected to this constant dribble.

  21. tommyribs says: Apr 25, 2012 5:06 PM

The Dolphins have to take Tannenhill if he is there. If for no other reason than to allow Karma and pandering/pondering to come full circle.

Tannenhill actually would be a good pick for them from a football standpoint:
    - He has physical talent
    - They have Moore and Garrard there for now
    - They could bring him along slowly and let him learn

    This actually makes sense.

  22. bilzfancy says: Apr 25, 2012 5:08 PM

Steve Ross, maybe the worst owner in all of sports, took a good team and turned them into a train wreck

  23. peytonsneck18 says: Apr 25, 2012 5:08 PM

no team in the top 10 in their right mind will draft him, so dolphins have no worry, he will be there at 10

  24. bedmanokc says: Apr 25, 2012 5:10 PM

Man, I can write for this blog.

“Dolphins Plan on Drafting Players This Week”

Then I go on to quote the sun-slantenel and Herald, then finish by saying how important the draft is.

    How’d I do?

  27. heynow33332 says: Apr 25, 2012 5:23 PM

Ok, let me see if I have this straight: The Dolphins owner, according to PFT sources, wants Tannehill, but they wont trade up to get him. Ok, got it. Can we move on to something else?

  28. thewizardofbs says: Apr 25, 2012 5:33 PM

I just hope the GM doesn’t get lost on the way to the draft and is too late to draft at #8. Ireland says he will be ready for the first day of the draft on Saturday.

Really I’m not sure who has more articles anymore, bounty gate, Tebow, colts and luck or rg3 to skins or the tannehill to dolphins. I think I just named the last 162 articles PFT has put out. I’m gonna go beat myself in the head now because I keep coming back to this thinking there some new news.

  31. jimmymarlinsfan says: Apr 25, 2012 6:07 PM

Lol, I love how people throw the Dez Bryant thing into the fray every time Ireland’s name is mentioned…if your daddy is pimp, it’s not a far stretch to assume your mom is someone involved in a less than reputable career choice. As for tannehill? I hope the phins get him at 8

  32. djteknision1200 says: Apr 25, 2012 6:10 PM

Another pointless story? This have the feeling of 2007 all over again, when every so called expert had Brady Quinn going to Miami at 9. We all saw how that turned out.

  33. ghjjf says: Apr 25, 2012 6:17 PM

I thought you said Seattle was going to trade up to get Tannehill?

  34. jcampol says: Apr 25, 2012 7:00 PM

It’s been pretty well established that Dolphins owner Stephen Ross wants his team to draft Texas A&M quarterback Ryan Tannehill.

Really? How has anything been well established? I’ve read nothing but assumptions and ridiculous stories about the dolphins and Tannehill facilitated by this site and unnamed sources. Has the state of “journalism” sunk so low that we are considering guesses well established facts? Give this story a break its tired.

  35. beeronthefridge says: Apr 25, 2012 7:53 PM

You could write a book if you combined all dolphins/tannehill stories on ptf.

    Unfortunately, nobody would buy it!

  36. lostsok says: Apr 25, 2012 8:14 PM

Miami is trying to get someone to move up into the top seven…to push down an elite player to eight.

Brilliant move by Ireland, the best GM in football.

What does that question have to do with football? NOBODY can control who their parents are or what they do. That was a stupid question to ask and Ireland knows he messed up thats why he apologized and caught so much criticism for it even till this day. Something are just instulting and stupid to ask a person. If it was a normal question to ask a player in the NFL than you would have heard of it being asked before now. It was crossing the line and stupid thats why it drew so much criticism
