Lost Collins and Won the title for most passing yards EVER given up in a season. This HURTS. I dont see why we dont keep him around a month or two longer and get more doctor's opinions. They say they are concerned for his health but he has the same chance of getting hurt in GB than he does anywhere else in the country. Ultimately it is up to Nick so let him play in GB if that is what he wants! McCarthy/Thompson are not protecting him at all by cutting him if he steps foot on the field somehwere else.

Burnett took over most of Collins' duties - except, you know, making sure people were in the right place, being a good tackler... little stuff like that. Packers REALLY need to find another safety, maybe the kid from LSU.
Good luck to Nick in life After Football.

Is it possible... just possible... that this is the best decision both personally and business wise? If he cant play anymore, obviously it was a business decision. But, sounds like he could. So, nick still wants to play. Packers arent going to play him because of further injury, posiibly life altering injuries. Release him and he can go play for someone else.

McCarthy's comments about Collins were made over a month ago, well before the test results were released. He wasn't ever going to play another down as a Packer.

McCarthy's quotes in February.

"To me, we're not talking about a roster spot here. We're talking about a man that's married and has a family. That's where I'm at."

The possibility that Collins could be reinjured "scares the hell out of me personally," McCarthy said.

It IS a business and no doubt money came into the decision.

But Nick Collins is an excellent player, and I am sure that if the Packers were like other teams that just care about selling tickets, they would play them. But Mike McCarthy said if Nick was his own son, he would not let him play. Collins had a great career, made a lot of money, and won a superbowl. He should walk away before he sustains a serious injury.

This has nothing to do with lack of loyalty--I think is was the most loyal decision to Nick to let him go. No Packers fan wants him in a wheelchair for the rest of his life.

duece5says:

You are CONFUSED!

They just TREATED LIKE A PIECE OF MEAT BY CUTTING HIM!!

Ask Collins if he would rather make $4mil. this year or not!

If they wanted to treat him well, they could have waited through the offseason, received other medical opinions.

If it was decided by the beginning of the season that he couldn’t play, put him on IR so the guy could make his $4mil. for the year as AN EARNED REWARD for the sacrifice he made to the pukes.

That would have been an example of really having your players’ backs.

But, no team, including mine does this.

Why?

Because it’s a BUSINESS.

All McCarthy did was say a few kind words around the fact that THEY CUT HIM OFF AND HIS $4mil this year!

Sound the music: “We love you TOO much to let you do this to yourelf, Nick. We have to let you go……we can’t stand to see you hurt anymore”

Collins: “But I am feeling stronger and the doctors say I have a good chance to play soon.”

McCarthy: Not listening- “We love you Nick….you will ALWAYS be a packer!”

Collins: “Coach, I’m not done…..if you cut me, I’ll hound your ass!”

McCarthy: Not listening-”Mad props 36…..no one can replace you!”

Collins: “I’ll replace YOU if you cut me dawg……get the ‘eff outta here!”

McCarthy: Cheese in the brain- “Mad love to you and the fam…..God bless you Nick”

Music fades……………..

My goodness puke fans…..GROW UP….get the cheese out of your brain.

Collins feels totally BETRAYED by you guys not giving him longer……and if he plays again, just think about his motivation to sic it to you guys.

The dude feels NO love at the moment……and don’t send him flowers.

Kid, consider hard drugs and alcohol, fast cars and faster women. Live fast and die young. When you are THIS stupid, you're future is pretty bleak anyway.

1: Oh yes…..here it comes…..”the packers ‘care’ about their players” dribble.
2: The reality is this: it’s a business……if the doctors said he could play, the packers would not release him. They said it was questionable, so they make a BUSINESS decision to release him.
3: My guess is that Collins would fully prefer for the packers to NOT cut him, so he can earn $4mil. this year.
4: He may or may NOT be able to play again…..it was a BUSINESS decision, so let’s get off the warm and fuzzies."
------------------------------------------
1: McCarthy: "If he were my son, I wouldn't let him play."
2: Business revolves around winning, keeping Nick helps us win, yet it risks him living in a wheel chair.... business no longer matters in this situation.
3: He was the highest paid player in 2010, he's got money, money in this situation shouldn't matter considering there's a risk of being stephan hawkins.
4: Or you could get off the trollin' bs and quit annoying people... helps everyone win.

Apparently The Packers Team Physician thought Collins was at risk for fuurther injury. Collins has likely been told not to play with the condition of his neck.

It is too bad Nick wont be able to play. He was one of the better Defensive players on that unit.

Ted Thompson will find someone to take nicks place. Ted has a way of finding talent and developing talent .

The Packers will be fine, and their Defense has nowhere to go but up.

Whatever he does, I just hope he stays healthy. Even if that means suiting up for the Vikings and picking Rodgers off for the next 4 seasons. The man has the right to make his own decision, and while it appears that the Packers are doing the responsible thing here, it may come back to bite them in time. Packers brass are willing to take that risk in the name of doing their part to protect Collins' health.

To the person who thinks the Packers "owe" Collins a year paid on I.R., you're insane. He was injured in week 2 last year, he's already had sufficient time to get his ducks in a row. I highly doubt he's been counting on NFL income over the past 8 months. He's had time prepare for whatever situation he's faced with.

Sidenote: I'm sure Ted Thompson really appreciates this dipstick agent leaking the news the day before the draft. This guy isn't even his primary agent. thanks, doofus.

"Really puke fan……are you that blind??

If you talked to Collins, privately, he would hope the packers would “not give up on him”.

Classy move? Really? They just cut his arse, and he feels betrayed by their lack of committment to him after he gave it his all.

If they were that “classy”, pay him his $4 million this year!!!

No NFL takes the risk…….it was a BUSINESS decision."
----------------------

My God, what a Minnesotan. Pretty sure they IR'd him last year in Week 2. He was signed to a long term deal, and he was paid in full last year.

What do the Packers gain by letting one of the top safeties in the league go to save money? They signed him to a long term deal that was front-loaded. Unlike the Vikings, they are a financially sound team...and their pass defense was atrocious without him. They need him more than he needs them if he can still play.

I like how you are so in touch with Nick's feelings, though, since you've obviously talked with him and his family.

The reality is this: it’s a business……if the doctors said he could play, the packers would not release him. They said it was questionable, so they make a BUSINESS decision to release him.

Is that why McCarthy basically said he would not let Collins play before Collins was even examined by the doctors? The question is not whether he can play, it's whether he can play and not be at risk for a more serious injury.

My guess is that Collins would fully prefer for the packers to NOT cut him, so he can earn $4mil. this year.

Maybe, or maybe he'd like to play for another team willing to take a risk so his release was granted.

This just goes to show you that football players are not ALWAYS a piece of meat to a team. Tough call for the pack to make….Good luck Nick!

duece5says:

You are CONFUSED!

They just TREATED LIKE A PIECE OF MEAT BY CUTTING HIM!!

Ask Collins if he would rather make $4mil. this year or not!

If they wanted to treat him well, they could have waited through the offseason, received other medical opinions.

If it was decided by the beginning of the season that he couldn't play, put him on IR so the guy could make his $4mil. for the year as AN EARNED REWARD for the sacrifice he made to the pukes.

That would have been an example of really having your players' backs.

But, no team, including mine does this.

Why?

Because it's a BUSINESS.

All McCarthy did was say a few kind words around the fact that THEY CUT HIM OFF AND HIS $4mil this year!

Sound the music: "We love you TOO much to let you do this to yourelf, Nick. We have to let you go......we can't stand to see you hurt anymore"

Collins: "But I am feeling stronger and the doctors say I have a good chance to play soon."

McCarthy: Not listening- "We love you Nick....you will ALWAYS be a packer!"

Collins: "Coach, I'm not done.....if you cut me, I'll hound your ass!"

McCarthy: Not listening-"Mad props 36.....no one can replace you!"

Collins: "I'll replace YOU if you cut me dawg......get the 'eff outta here!"

McCarthy: Cheese in the brain- "Mad love to you and the fam.....God bless you Nick"

Music fades.................

My goodness puke fans.....GROW UP....get the cheese out of your brain.

Collins feels totally BETRAYED by you guys not giving him longer......and if he plays again, just think about his motivation to sic it to you guys.

The dude feels NO love at the moment......and don't send him flowers.

For those saying that the Packers should keep him and just pay him to be nice that is only a case if Nick Collins can't play for anyone. If he could play for the other 31 teams, why would he want to sit on the bench?

Then the same people would complain that the Packers are blocking Nick Collins and should just release him.
