Andrew Luck will run with first team from day one

NFL draft prospect Andrew Luck speaks with the media after leading football drills at the NFL PLAY 60 Youth Football Festival in New York Reuters

We already know who the Colts are taking with the first pick and we now know that Andrew Luck will be the starting quarterback from his first day in camp.

Offensive coordinator Bruce Arians told Albert Breer of NFL.com that there “ain’t no doubt” that Luck will be with the starting offense right away. Given that the current competition is Drew Stanton, that’s about as unsurprising as the fact that the Colts are making Luck the pick but it’s always nice to see a team do away with smoke and mirrors and just say what they know is true.

Luck won’t be able to fully start working with the Colts until Stanford’s school year comes to an end on June 7th. He’ll be able to attend the team’s rookie minicamp in May, but league rules bar him from returning after that point.

With that out of the way, there’s nothing left to do but reach agreement on a contract. That’s not likely to happen until the league and union finalize the rookie salary pool for this season. They have been working on it, but are still hammering out the final details.

It seems like RG3 is getting all the hype, but I think Luck will be an all time great when it’s all said and done (doesn’t mean I think RG3 will be a bust). Colts fans are very lucky, like the way the 9ers rolled from Montana to Young or the Packers from Farve to Rodgers…it’s just very rare for that to happen.

Can you say rookie of the year, and afc south division champs? I just did, and believe that. If the red rocket can make the playoffs in his rookie year with the bungals, luck can win the superbowl… HTTC see what I did there?? See how idiotic that looks skin fans

Breaking news: Drew Stanton requests a trade.

In other news, the sun rose today – believe it or not in the east.

In reality, I think the chances of the sun rising in the west were greater than the chances of Luck not taking the snaps from day one.

Hope Andrew isn’t overbiting off more than he can chew.

This just in! Colts will draft a QB with first pick! Sheesh, can I get a job there?

Luck running with the first team is no suprise to anyone.

I’ve never once written HTTR (until just right now). But why does that bother you? Does the fact that Andrew Luck is one ugly dude bother you?

I get the feeling that this will be one of those drafts that we look back on in 10 years much like the 83 draft with Elway, Marino and Kelly. I think Luck, RG3 and THill will all be good. I just think THill will take a year or 2 to get there.

    @coltsluckydynasty -

Really? You want to make fun of Skins fans? No one cared about the Colts before Manning in Indiana, they were not even on TV. The fan base is a bunch of frauds. Your owner is a thief and your city is boring. The Redskins are a pillar in the NFL. Yes, they have been down but that is changing. HTTR, HTTR, HTTR, HTTR, HTTR, HTTR.

First, I’m not even a Bengals fan, but it’s “red rifle,” genius. They are also a solid all-around team.

Second, in addition to a solid QB, you have to have 2 of the following 3 to make the playoffs:

    1. Above Average Defense
    2. Decent Running Game
    3. Semi-Consistent Offensive Line

The Colts may have 1 of those (at best) this year. See you in 2013!

Luck will take a lot of beatings this year. Hope it doesn’t crush his confidence, just saying

Dude get over it! Why the hell are you worried about RGIII and Redskins? Your concern should be the Texans and your own division. It’s seems like some trolls just want to knock RGIII to make you feel better about drafting Luck. I have an idea how about both QBs being big time players successfully leading their teams respectively. Geez stop trying to knock either one of these guys.

  16. koolrepetoire says: Apr 26, 2012 3:43 PM

Why can’t both QB’s going 1 & 2 be embraced? Deep down the hater in folks spills out. Barring injury this may be a Larry Bird & Magic Johnson type of draft, professional career, & friendship. The Colts & Redskins truly have their Man. Embrace it! HTTR!

  17. greeneblitz says: Apr 26, 2012 3:46 PM

It’s really nice for a team to be honest and do away with the antiquated, “let the kid sit” garbage and get him the valuable 1st team reps from day one.

  18. cakemixa says: Apr 26, 2012 3:47 PM

Unfortunately, this kid will never live up to the hype that he’s getting. Feel bad for him.

  19. thereisfootballwestofjersey says: Apr 26, 2012 3:49 PM

Having watched every game of his as the QB of Stanford Cardinal (half of which were in person), I can tell everyone in Indy with great assurance – this guy is the whole package. He is the ultimate team guy, a great leader and is full of humility. He will work his arse off for the blue horseshoe. You Colts fans are very lucky

    Go back to Baltimore.

  21. xli2006 says: Apr 26, 2012 4:03 PM

This is a win-win for the Colts and Skins. Not sure why fans turned this into a Luck vs RG3 and Colts vs Skins, it’s not that at all.

It seems both teams got their man, the fans are happy about both, and both players seem content with their destination… about as amicable a draft situation for the 2 Teams/Players/Fanbases that I can remember in a long time, maybe ever.

welcome to indy andrew luck, and i wish rg3 luck in DC, lets not bash any of these 2 qb’s, today is their big day and i have confidence in Luck and dc has confidence in rg3, in the immortal words of rodney king…..why cant we all just get along!!!!

  23. kodakinvegas says: Apr 26, 2012 6:05 PM

Not “bashing” anybody, bit I got news for you Indy fans, it takes more than just a QB, ask Manning, he had broad shoulders but as Gisele said, he can’t throw the ball and catch the dam thing himself Yes, you got a great pick, but these NFL defences are gonna sit back, and peel off on Luck like they did Mike Phipps years ago. Hope he enjoys doing a lot of ground work and has an appetite for turf cuz hrs gonna be eating a BUNCH of it. Not to mention being in YHE shadow of Peyton Manning. Fans will be putting bounties on Irsay before it’s all said and done. No defines, no running game, no O line, no receivers, but they got luck and Luck ain’t enough. 3,4,5 years. By then, Luck will be a basket case. Won’t be his fault though, blame Irsay. Idiot
