Asante and his general disdain for his job, playing defense, is the main culprit in the Eagles defensive woes last season.

He’s afraid of contact…you guys from Atlanta, go back watch the game vs. the Eagles last season…Asante made 1 play in that game, a nice INT…he killed the Eagles in the 2nd half…watch the 4th quarter run by Turner that pretty well sealed the deal…

Asante was running away…not setting the edge in accordance to his job….but literally running away…

Then, just for fun go watch the Eagles vs. 49ers…or the Eagle vs. Giants…or the vs. Seahawks…or Bears…or Cowboys…or…

Well…I think you get the point. (they ALL attacked Asante)

Goodbye Asante….2 years too late.

The way its looking there will be no incentives for Pro Bowls since they are on the way out. I’m wondering what the players will do that have this already in place in their contracts? Any ideas?

This was a no win for the Eagles. Asante would not restructure his contract in Philly and there is no way he’s still worth $10M. Yeah, the trade looks bad but they would have cut him anyway, so who cares, as long as the Eagles use the cap space to lock down Shady.

I would have preferred the Eagles continue to dangle him through the weekend for a better offer though. We’ll never know if someone may have given more during or after the draft. If not, the Eagles could have taken a 2013 7th rounder or cut him outright and been no worse for wear.

Caveat emptor, Atlanta fans. Isn’t it odd that such a great player was so willing to take a huge paycut with no word yet of any guaranteed $?

He will start over Robinson…Robsinson will be the 3rd CB in Nolan’s defense. And from what I’ve read, Nolan’s 3rd CB in the nickel defense is typically a safety. Last I checked, Robinson hits like a safety! This has me ready for some football!

Robinson should be the third wheel. He has amassed two monster hits and 3 interceptions in the 2 years he has been with Atlanta. Brent Grimes has 6 in the same period.

He may be…a starter come game day and a great insurance policy due to an injury to Grimesey or Robinson. The Falcons needed a veteran and voila! they didn’t need to wait for one to get cut in June or wait til the end of summer. Worth a 7th round pick and the $$$.

I am not a Falcons fan but, hats off to them. That deal for Asante was criminal. Eagles got a 7th round pick for him, are you kidding me? Just to show the depth of this deal. Last year in the 4th round The Eagles took Casey Matthews. They also have or had two other 7th round picks at linebacker. So in their infinate wisdom The Eagles went to war with The Pep Boys, and, we all know how that worked out for them. Good luck Asante. In my opinion you were worth a solid 4th. Now Reid can draft another 5′-9″ linebacker with that 7th pick.

putting in escalators for interceptions is a poor idea, most of Samuels faults revolve around he plays an individual game. to pay him for int. plays right into his philosophy of me first, then we help the team by being a playmaker. thats not playing a team game.
