Bengals get Dre Kirkpatrick with pick from Carson Palmer trade

The Cincinnati Bengals have traded Carson Palmer for Dre Kirkpatrick.

With the 17th pick in the 2012 NFL draft, the pick the Bengals got from the Raiders when they traded Palmer last season, Cincinnati picked up Kirkpatrick, the Alabama cornerback who should be prepared to start in Cincinnati from Day One.

Cornerback is a definite position of need for the Bengals, so the choice is no surprise. The Bengals reached deals with Terence Newman, Pacman Jones and Jason Allen this offseason, but they’ll hope Kirkpatrick can beat them all out and be a starter in their defense.

Kirkpatrick was arrested for marijuana possession in January, which raised some concerns, but those charges were dismissed in February. The Bengals obviously weren’t too concerned, because he’s their top pick.

Bengals draft a cb who can’t run with the wrs in their division. Sounds right.

With Jerome Simpson’s departure, the team took steps to insure that it would now have a new source in the locker room.

Leave it to the Bungles to pick up the undersized DB without a single INT last year. Way to put that pick to use!

Dre kirkpatrick seemed destined to be a Bengal.

That sounds right. The bengals take a guy who has a criminal background.

I would take Carson Palmer over this rookie no name CB any day…
CBs are a dime a dozen, a CB can not win you a superbowl but a QB can

Wow, are you kidding, a weed charge? He’s a saint compared to the rest of the guys who have done worse. This guy can be the Tim Tebow of the Bengals.

For the love says “Leave it to the Bungles to pick up the undersized DB “.

Dre KirkPatrick is the BIGGEST CB taken so far. He is nearly 3 inches taller and 15 lbs of more muscle then Claiborne. The reason for the lack of INT’s is that no SEC QB was that stupid to throw the ball towards him……

    Great pickup Bengals!

The Bengals have a normal amount of arrests over the past 5 years. Think for yourselves you lemmings.

If Kirkpatrick had been picked by the Packers, Pats or just about any other team, PFT wouldn’t have even mentioned the minor pot charge (that was dismissed BTW).

    Undersized? He’s just under 6 foot 2.

    Brilliant comment.

That’s just ridiculous. I don’t need to explain why Kirkpatrick was such a great pick bc that SHOULD be obvious but … Let’s not forget, it was Carson Palmer for Kirkpatrick AND a 2nd round pick next year. You need help if you think Oakland wins in that trade. Palmer sucks and is an interception MACHINE. Good luck winning that super bowl with him.

This guy is an idiot… Clearly you havent watched Carson Palmer in the last 5 years. Corners cant win super bowls?? Last time i looked the giants just won the super bowl because of great D. Actually they have done that twice now, and not to long ago didnt the Ravens win a super bowl with great D?? Oh and havent the Steelers won a couple lately with great D..?? We needed someone on the other side of Leon hall. Lets remember Hall will be out number 1 corner, that will cover Mike Wallace, and Torrey Smith. Kirkpatrick will be covering the number 2 recievers.. Great pick up Bengals!!

Both the Raiders and the Bengals benefit from the trade. Palmer wasn’t coming back to Cincy. Cincy benefits by getting a couple of high picks.

But the Raiders really benefit the most here. They get a proven franchise QB — the hardest thing to find and THE KEY INGREDIENT for any team hoping to contend. It’s something the Raiders hadn’t had since Rich Gannon — not even close — and that is the reason for their struggles through the Walter-McCown-Culpepper-JaMarcus years.

The Bengals may do OK, but even the best CB is not as valuable as a top 10 QB, which Palmer can be. Not to mention > half of these 1st round picks will turn out to be backups, journeymen or outright flops in a few short years.
