Cardinals make Larry Fitzgerald happy by drafting Michael Floyd

Cardinals wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald wasn’t shy about letting people know what he thought the team should do with the 13th pick of the draft.

He wanted the team to take Notre Dame wide receiver Michael Floyd, a fellow product of Minnesota. The shared background had something to do with it, but the chance to have defenses worrying about a receiver other than Fitzgerald was probably a bigger part of it.

Floyd’s got ideal size for a receiver and he was very successful as part of the Fighting Irish offense. He’s also a good run blocker, an added bonus to his ability to make big catches down the field in the passing game. He did have some off-field issues with alcohol, but he had no issues during the 2011 season and should get plenty of mentoring from Fitzgerald.

It never hurts to draft a big receiver, especially when it puts a smile on your best player’s face.
