Getty ImagesCardinals wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald wasn’t shy about letting people know what he thought the team should do with the 13th pick of the draft.
He wanted the team to take Notre Dame wide receiver Michael Floyd, a fellow product of Minnesota. The shared background had something to do with it, but the chance to have defenses worrying about a receiver other than Fitzgerald was probably a bigger part of it.
Floyd’s got ideal size for a receiver and he was very successful as part of the Fighting Irish offense. He’s also a good run blocker, an added bonus to his ability to make big catches down the field in the passing game. He did have some off-field issues with alcohol, but he had no issues during the 2011 season and should get plenty of mentoring from Fitzgerald.
It never hurts to draft a big receiver, especially when it puts a smile on your best player’s face.

More Minnesota home grown!
I know the Cardinals have bigger needs, and I know Floyd might be high risk, but, and I hate to say this because I’m a 49ers fan, I think this was a great pick and it makes the Cardinals much more difficult to beat.
Superbowl2013!
Should of picked Decastro.
GO CARDINALS!!
The Cardinals are going to have a nice WR core with Floyd, Doucet, Roberts and Fitzgerald. They just need to keep Kolb upright.
Great playet terrible team…Sucks he goes to a small city no one cares about a team no one cares about a team with a whole fan base of 1000 people…oh and one minor detail…..they dont have a QB either…..
Didn’t Fitzgerald also ask the Cards to trade for Kevin Kolb?
Bad pick, should of been DeCastro.
Nice…grata Mike.
Sweet!!
Floyd just became the best WR in this class by playing alongside and watching the person and player that Larry Fitzgerald is.
Hoping he would have fallen to the Browns.
Good choice for the Card’s, i would have preferred floyd waving a yellow towel at the end of the day!!!
Apparently Fitz’s contract included a General Manager provision.
Would love to be a qb in zona right now
Nice place for Floyd to land….Fitzgerald should be a good mentor. Now if they only had a QB…
Love the pick. Gotta go with offensive/defensive playmaker with top 15 pick. Their need for OL can be found later round
They need o line help but how could they pass up Floyd? Look at the numbers that Fitzgerald put up last year with their shaky QB play & no one else to cover. If they can get some o line help later (no 2nd-see awful Kolb trade #ReidTradeRapes), & have a healthy Wells/Williams combo, the skys the limit
That’s spells “Double Trouble !!” Nice pick.
Good for Cardinals.
Now all they need is to let Skelton start & make Kolb hold the clipboard.
Great Pick!!!
Now the Cardinals wide receiver tandem can be known as “The F Troop” for Fitz & Floyd.
Great pick up for the Cardinals, the only problem that remains is they still need a qb to throw the ball, hope they aren’t counting on Kolb.

Small City? Phoenix is one of the largest cities in the U.S. Our fan base is modest but growing every year. We finished 7-2 in our last 9 games. With a full offseason, our defense is going to dominate and our offense will do just enough to win games. Im not saying we are the 2000 ravens, but they won a superbowl with Trent Dilfer.
Yeah the fool who said he’s going to a small city must be living under a rock or in North Dakota
