Claiborne @ 14? Are you kidding me? He wasn’t making it past 6, and many of the experts (no, you aren’t an expert) had him going top 5, if not 3 to Minnesota. Looked awful against all those teams? Is that why he was the consensus #1 CB rated by EVERYONE? Not only that, but the move was applauded by near every expert out there. Nobody but you knows what they’re talking about, amiright? Keep reaching to try and make yourself feel better because your draft was matched by Dallas getting Claiborne.

There are not that many. What’s your point? That because the rest of the league has smallish CBs and constantly get fried by the taller WRs that Dallas should settle for what the rest of the league has? That’s really stupid.

Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie
Charles Woodson

Wow. People act like they have real skin in this game. I said it was disappointing that Dallas didn’t get a bigger CB. I remember several games lost because our smallish CBs couldn’t out jump the NBA forwards that pose as WRs and TEs nowadays.

Re: Darrel Green. He was an incredible DB in his day, covering all those 5’10″ WRs. The game has changed a lot since then. There were 6’0″ 210 lb LBs back then too. Not too many of those today.

There were bigger corners available. The rules now favor a jump ball. Jump ball means the taller guy usually wins. Also, bigger DBs can reroute bigger WRs. Claiborne never had to jam the pro-size WRs. He’ll get broken like Newman – every year he was damaged.

Speed,quickness,positioning, and ball awareness are traits far far more important than height in cornerbacks.

Where are all these “Jump Balls” you speak of? My guess is you get enamored watching Megatron highlights on ESPN and the rest of the game doesn’t matter.

A little FYI here. 90% of all passes are completed between the turf and the top of the helmet. A vast majority of jump balls are fades to the back of the endzone. if the ball is perfectly thrown,there is no defense. Shaquille O’neill cannot cover a perfectly thrown pass. Darrel Green, all 5’8 of him just made an acceptance speech in Canton a few years ago.

3. Analysts had Leaf, Young, Vick, Russell, Bush, and unknown numbers of others as “can’t miss”.

6. Newman got hurt repeatedly trying to be a good tackler because he was so small.

Your reasoning is stupid, so there.

1. Same size or not, Claiborne is more physical, faster, and more athletic than Newman ever was.
2. Newman is old and at the end of his run. Claiborne is 21 years old. (And by the way, Newman was a good player for many years.)
3. Every analyst has him as a top 5 player and the only impact defender in the draft.
4. 85-90% of NFL cornerbacks are under 6’1″. Go look at some rosters.
5. Yes, we need a safety – a cover safety. A cover corner is better to have than a safety. Barron is a good prospect, but he is a physical safety. Claiborne is a better cover man and better playmaker.
6. Claiborne is a good tackler, unlike Newman.

FYI. If Dallas drafted an NT the same size as Ratliff people would be livid. Ratliff is a freak, but you can’t draft small NTs and expect to compete – every year the Olines gets bigger.

what a childish way to compare players ( they are similar height so they are the same) when they clearly don’t play alike. Newman hardly jammed anyone wasnt that physical even in his prime. Disappointment would be the cowboys drafting a kicker with the sixth pick.
