Cardinals receiver Larry Fitzgerald got what he wanted on Thursday night when Arizona used its first-round draft pick on receiver Michael Floyd, and both men expressed excitement about playing together after the pick became official.

Fitzgerald, who like Floyd is from Minnesota, told the Arizona Republic that he thinks Floyd has exactly the right combination of skills to succeed in the NFL.

“In this league you have to be able to beat press man coverage on third down,” Fitzgerald said. “He is a big guy who has suddenness and can win on third down and make plays in the red zone.”

For his part, Floyd said after he was drafted that he thinks he can learn a lot from Fitzgerald.

“It’s exciting just knowing that he’s on the opposite side of me, one of the best receivers in the game,” Floyd said. “It’s a good learning experience for me to know when I get down there I’ll be able to learn from one of the best.”

The Cardinals have had one of the best since the day they chose Fitzgerald. Now they hope they finally have a good No. 2.
