Ok ok ok ok… So because a Writer BELIEVES that a draft pick spells the end of our premiere Left tackle We as readers just ASSume that it is Gospel and start calling the Fins Brass Idiots. Evidently, getting hits on the internet has become more important than integrity and “news” reporters are now allowed to pass speculation off as certainty (and, unfortunately, too many fans are all too willing to believe them without the slightest trace of evidence to back it up). There was the story about Naanee Legudu (sorry if I misspelled his name) being signed to replace Brandon Marshall that lacked any statement from the ‘Phins that implied any such thing. Then Ross was supposedly pressuring Ireland to pick Tannehill that refused to die despite denials by both Ross and Ireland. The rule of the day seems to be “if it makes Ross and/or Ireland look bad, it must be true”.

I read that report, I regretted reading it and was mad at myself for reading it because it came from the worse beat writer that covers the Dolphins. The whole thing was speculative and he really had nothing to support it. Frankly I am surprised it made it on here. If you put yourself in Ireland’s place would you use a unproven, 2nd rd talent to protect the blind side of the guy who you just wagered your career on?

When Ireland came down to meet the media after the draft, he did something unique — he opened by shooting down a media report that drafting offensive tackle Jonathan Martin in the second round meant All-Pro left tackle Jake Long would be jettisoned in two years.

I’m quite certain that anyone who believes this CRAP from Florio should give themselves a gigantic slap in the face. The Dolphins need an OT because they don’t have one for the right side. They draft a guy who many believe will make a fine right tackle. Jake Long will be needing a new contract after next season. Certainly (in Florio’s eyes) that must mean the Dolphins will cut the best player in their roster. C’mon everyone…Florio is once again trying to make the Fins front office look worse than they already do. There is no way in hell the Fins cut Jake Long. Now if some team were to offer 2 1sts for him, I am sure the Dolphin fan base would show some interest.

It’s more than the scheme or zone blocking that you do not understand. The Dolphins had many needs so I thought they would draft elite impact players early. They went for Tannehill instead. That said he is not a stretch and was considered by many recruiting outlets (scout.com) to be the third best QB in the draft getting a five star rating. The bottom line on Jake Long is that he is athletic enough to play any scheme in the NFL and is under contract. He could be franchised next season. All of this is chatter about nothing because the Dolphins needed to replace the right side of the line big time. So drafting the very athletic Jonathan Martin simply fills that dire need. Just for your information backindasaddle Ireland had an excellent draft but only playing the game will indicate that to everyone including Mike Florio.
