Getty ImagesMohamed Sanu was a well-regarded prospect coming into the draft, but not so highly regarded that we thought we’d be writing three posts about him before the weekend was out.
Thanks to a prank phone call, that’s just what we’re doing. Sanu was the victim of a prankster — a fellow Rutgers student apparently — who told him he would be drafted by the Bengals during the first round on Thursday night. He wasn’t their pick, it was guard Kevin Zeitler of Wisconsin, and the story spread like wildfire on Friday. It wound up with a happy ending when the Bengals called him on Friday night to make him the 82nd overall choice.
“I said, ‘Hey Mo, it’s James Urban. You want to be a Bengal — this time, for real?’” receivers coach James Urban told the Associated Press.
Sanu said that he’s “hysterically laughing” about the whole thing right now which is likely a 180 degree change from his reaction when he realized the call on Thursday wasn’t legitimate. If Sanu turns out to be the complement to A.J. Green that the Bengals hope he can be, the team will likely be cackling right alongside him for years to come.

Someone told Manu it gets better.
Hysterically laughing all the way to the bank. Hope he pans out for the Bengals, so whomever was the hater that called him, only gets the first laugh, not the last one.
Very cool that he’s got a good attitude about it, and that it worked out well with him going to the Bengals after all!
I would like to have that guy prank call me with some stock tips.
Impressed that no comments had any thumbs down, I debated as to whether I should thumbs each of them to achieve user balance.
He was laughing because he was like oh man that was a close call almost went to the bengals ,then in third round he stopped laughing bengals came for real this time
I saw an interview with him on ESPN today. Nice kid, soft spoken. I felt so bad for him with that call. I’m glad it worked out.
There were large gaps in his answers & the next question because I think Trey didn’t expect a Wr to be so succinct.
Very harsh prank to pull.
The prank was just disgusting, but I wouldn’t call it a storybook ending just yet — first we’ll have to see if Sanu can hold off Marvin Jones and Armon Binns for the #2 receiver alongside AJ Green. Should be fun to watch them battle it out!
What’s messed up is that he really was drafted by the Bungles. Nobody REALLY wants to be drafted by the Bungles. But atleast its better than Cleveland
Pranks are usually funny. But, prank calling someone on something like that just isn’t funny.
Note to all parents: Don’t let your kids grow up to be little dumb a//es.
@upyoursnfu: Who’s your team? The “Bungles” are probably better than them.
