Vikings running back Caleb King arrested for assault

1335645740-Caleb_King

If the Vikings end up getting a deal in place to build a new stadium in the coming days, it will happen in spite of some bad off-field P.R. in recent days.

First, the team signed receiver Jerome Simpson, who pleaded guilty to a felony drug charge earlier this year.  Now, running back Caleb King has been arrested for assault.

Tom Pelissero of 1500ESPN.com reports that King faces a charge of third-degree assault with substantial bodily harm.  King, who joined the team after going unselected in the 2011 supplemental draft, spent most of his rookie year on the practice squad.  Via NFL.com, the Anoka County Sheriff’s Office describes the charge as “serious.”

Look for the Vikings to sever ties with King quickly, in light of the ongoing stadium drive.

Imagine at your work several of your peers getting arrested every month for DUIs and domestic voilence related offenses.

I am a Viking fan and had no clue he was even on the team.

The stadium debate didn’t stop them from signing Jerome Simpson the other day. They’ll cut ties with him because he wasn’t likely to make the roster, anyway, and so not worth the trouble.

Yea a practice squad player got arrested this will probably prevent a stadium deal from happening. Do you guys read what you write?

  11. mediasloppy says: Apr 28, 2012 6:11 PM

Cut him and pick up Polk if he goes undrafted. That would be a steal if Polk’s injury isn’t serious

  12. matthewcarlson1 says: Apr 28, 2012 6:21 PM

This dude is barely even on the team.. take it easy with the comments. I can’t remember him ever touching the ball and I’ve seen every snap since I was 12.

    who?

  16. wabbitslayer says: Apr 28, 2012 6:35 PM

Suspended two games at UGA for an arrest, suspended for a bowl game for missing team meetings, ruled academically ineligible for what would have been his final year so he had to enter the supplemental draft….and now, barely in the NFL on a practice squad, this.

    What an idiot.

  17. trbowman says: Apr 28, 2012 6:39 PM

There goes this guy’s NFL career, not that he had much of one anyway.

  18. dd393 says: Apr 28, 2012 6:41 PM

Now that the stadium’s a done deal, all hell breaks loose.

    Poster franchise of the NFL.

A while back there was an article on here about Toby Gerhart and his knee. I thought at the time that Caleb King could fill in for AP or Gerhart until they returned or if perhaps they were limited come game time. I guess not anymore..

  21. Peter Venkman says: Apr 28, 2012 7:07 PM

Why this team doesn’t try to imitate the franchise 300 miles directly east from them (or the state, for that matter) is one of life’s mysteries.

Gonna go ahead and say it was against a woman before I read the story.

————————————————– Yeah, I thought the same thing. Florio, i’ll cut you some slack because you’ve probably had about three hours sleep in the last three days, but that’s a bit of a reach.

Vikings are going the way of the saints.

  25. eagles4thering says: Apr 28, 2012 7:13 PM

Sad how everything mildly exciting about the Vikings doesn’t consist of any football.

“The incident allegedly happened at the birthday party of a female friend of King’s in Oak Grove. King denied assaulting the man to police, saying the man simply fell to the ground while they were speaking.”

    Seems legitimate…

  29. classygentleman7 says: Apr 28, 2012 7:35 PM

Great job idiot. You already had a small chance of being a useful NFL player, no you have no chance at all.

  30. jeff061 says: Apr 28, 2012 7:44 PM

…and look for WA RB Chris Polk to be signed as a FA by sundown

  31. justasecond1 says: Apr 28, 2012 7:50 PM

Good real. So some dudes most people have never even heard of – will prevent the signing deal for a new stadium? Come on.

I usually don’t criticize the writers on PFT but come on. Most of these guys will be out of the league in a few years, but that stadium will still be around when their grand kids are born.

After the love boat incident and Randy Moss verbally attacking a food vendor for no reason at all why is this a surprise? their image has been forever tarnished and they need to move to LA where this behavior wouldnt even be noticed.

detroitcityryda: ummm, ok, I’ve been thru Detroit and I must say, I am glad that GQ had some nice stuff to say because I don’t, oh, and you have never been to Minnesota as you described it without the GQ stuff.

I think we can say that King is off this team. He was a long shot to make it before he went out and did this crap.

Here is a good list of all the Vikings’ draft picks and their bios http://wp.me/p1zWAl-18D

Did anyone read the link Florio posted for the full story from ESPN?

He was at a birthday party thrown by the parents of some 21-year-old woman he and his victim both knew. Read the link – the birthday girl’s parents are throwaways too. Crimminy.

I don’t give a crap what one guy said to another, the beating, attempted cover-up, and resulting injuries should prompt the DA to file charges against that chick’s parents as well if the allegations are true.

Oh, and Happy Birthday to her. If she got any money, she might want to save it up to bail her parents out.

He could be a Saint if we would have gotten paid after the assault…

  45. beeronthefridge says: Apr 29, 2012 3:04 PM

The victim said he looked like Ru Paul!

  46. taintedsaints2009 says: Apr 30, 2012 10:57 PM

if these allegations are true, this guy needs to go to prison for a very, very long time. the family of the victim says he told king he looked like eddie murphy. king didn’t like that, followed him out of the party, and beat him unconscious. King almost killed this kid over a comment that most normal people would take as a compliment.
