Vikings running back Caleb King arrested for assault

If the Vikings end up getting a deal in place to build a new stadium in the coming days, it will happen in spite of some bad off-field P.R. in recent days.

First, the team signed receiver Jerome Simpson, who pleaded guilty to a felony drug charge earlier this year. Now, running back Caleb King has been arrested for assault.

Tom Pelissero of 1500ESPN.com reports that King faces a charge of third-degree assault with substantial bodily harm. King, who joined the team after going unselected in the 2011 supplemental draft, spent most of his rookie year on the practice squad. Via NFL.com, the Anoka County Sheriff’s Office describes the charge as “serious.”

Look for the Vikings to sever ties with King quickly, in light of the ongoing stadium drive.
