Seahawks announce ten undrafted free agent signings

The Seattle Seahawks announced Sunday that they have signed ten players to undrafted rookie contracts.

They are Ohio receiver Phil Bates, McNeese State cornerback London Durham, Cal (PA) guard Rishaw Johnson, Washington receiver Jermaine Kearse, Henderson State tight end Sean McGrath, Montana tackle Jon Opperud, Portland State defensive back DeShawn Snead, Cincinnati defensive end Monte Taylor, Oregon receiver Lavasier Tuinei, and Purdue kicker Carson Wiggs.

Johnson, the guard from Cal (PA), is perhaps the most notable pickup, as a player some draftniks regarded as a middle-round prospect. Johnson has off-field baggage after being dismissed from Ole Miss in 2010 for multiple violations of team policy.

Tuinei (pictured) is a 6-foot-5, 220-pound wide receiver who may convert to tight end.

    220 lb TE? Really?

    And Pete Carroll immediately annointed all 10 of them as starters for the 2012 season and expressed his disappointment at not being able to find an undrafted free agent QB to backup his starter Whitehurst, or TJoke or Flynn or whoever the flavor of the year is going to be.

    Nemyx—–to answer your question, weight gain is generally implied when talking about a transition from wideout to TE.

    The only thing that matters is todo el mundo sabe que “the vikequeefs blow!”

    Likely camp fodder, but maybe they find another Doug Baldwin in the bunch.

    Wow, 10 guys are invited to camp for a chance to be on a team that goes 5-11…

    Mark my words. Tuinei will be a stud WR for Seattle. Kid never quits and catches everything thrown at him. Has the frame too add weight though I wouldn’t recommend it due to a possibility of losing speed, although he should be fine in in doing so. He is a true football play maker. I watched him play the last 2 years at Oregon. He’s a beast. Glad Pete Carroll (who knows this kid well coaching against him) is giving him a shot.

    I agree that Tuinei and Johnson might make the roster (practice squad).

    @themackstrong

    That’s because he had a good season at UW and starred for the Huskies against Baylor in the Alamo Bowl

    Dude is a stud, and SHOULD make the team.

    Good Luck Seattle. Hope you find a Gem to keep out of the undrafted free agents and your rookie draft class.

    Looking forward to the season……..

    Carson Wiggs has a freaking booot!!! His FGA to FGM % was like 76% last season but with some good coaching he can bring some serious competition at the position. Hauschka was good last season and this will either make him way better or upgrade if Wiggs out competes him. Shoot, I never thought I would be this excited about freaking kickers.
