John you told the truth, now you want to “back up”? And they call Romney a flip-flopper. Belichick and the Patriots cheated, pure and simple. The Rams know it, the fans know it, the NFL knows it and Belichick knows it too…..

Joke candidate -- joke comment. Cheating is a lovely way to say it, but the taping was legal -- it was where they stood that wasn't. So get over yourself.

Now I REALLY think he’s an idiot.

At first, I accepted that’s how he felt about my team. Now, pffff. GTFO.

And for the jealous bunch, we get it — “CHEATING” sounds better than taping from an illegal part of the field.

__
Jealous bunch? You referring to Boston baseball fans who have had nearly a century of blatant jealousy towards the Yankees?

And as for “CHEATING”, it sounds better because it’s an accurate descriptor of what the Pats did.

Boston baseball fans? This is a football story, idiot. Why do I get the feeling that Mayor Menino banged your mom?

Why do I get the feeling that you haven’t gotten any new insults since the 1970s?

Keep making it up as you go along clownboy, you're not fooling anyone. Video casette tapes were not sold on the market prior to 1971, to anyone. Period, end of story. Thanks for all your useless research about it's invention though, hope it didn't take you away from the porn sites for too long.

Absolutely, positively wrong about when BB told Goodell he had been filming since 2000. BB told Goodell during the initial investigation and Goodell said so. You just completely pulled it out of your butt. Goodell only asked BB for the tapes dating back to 2006 because that's the only time it was illegal. Before that it wasn't, as Jimmy Johnson and many others have stated. BB may well have known it was illegal starting in 2006. Whether he did or didn't he got caught and was justifiably punished. 3SBs clean as a whistle. Glad you think you speak for the majority, with your delusions of granduer, but that 's not the case. Blown up with facts again. BOOM.

tedmurph says:

bozo BS part 1: I said Sony came out with 1rst video cassette tape in 1971, not that it was invented then. The public did not have portable video cassette recorders before 1971. That’s why there was no rule to that effect.

bozo BS part 2: Goodell did get 8 tapes from 2001-3 from Walsh. Walsh said he had tape of Rams walkthru. Then he didn’t. Then his lawyer arranged a meeting with Goodell to show what he did have to save face. Goodell wanted to see if there was anything new and if Belichick had told him the truth. Goodell said there was nothing new on the tapes. BB had told Goodell he had been taping since 2000. BB never used the word ‘illegally’ because it wasn’t illegal. BB just told the complete truth.

Hope that clears things up for you bonzo. Never let the facts get in the way of one of your bad stories.

___
Part 1: Multi-billionaire teams are hardly "the public". They had access to videotape, moron.

Part 2: Film existed to show that Belichick filmed since 2000...only after those tapes were turned over by Walsh did Belichick admit that he was taping prior to 2006. And yes, the taping was illegal at that time. The memo was a reminder of the rule that already existed, idiot. And Belichick (the supposed genius) knew he was breaking the rule, otherwise he would have asked for clarification BEFORE he started taping on the sidelines. Keep making excuses for your cheating coach, while the vast majority of NFL fans know the truth about him...he is a confirmed cheater. I can see that YOU never let facts get in the way of gluing your lips to BB's bunghole.

I doubt that you will ever see it clearly, tedysmurf...so I'll just have to satisfy myself that the rest of the rational NFL-viewing public knows better than idiots like you.

I view both these "scandals" as similar to stealing catcher's signs, corked bats, and spitballs in baseball. Illegal, but of little real benefit in winning. Aren't players already extremely motivated to hit key players hard, especially in the playoffs? Did a few thousand prospective bounty really increase that motivation. Don't teams scout and analyze opposing teams to the point stealing plays is somewhat redundant and ineffective, particularly if they know you're trying to steal them. Seems extremely poor judgement by coaches to risk censure more than anything. So I agree, there should be no taint, but there undoubtedly is, in public perception.

All the people who cry about Goodell “burning tapes”…were you in a coma the day Goodell played all of Walsh’s tapes at a press conference televised on national TV? Scoreboard, hand signals in plain view of all 70,000 people in the stadium, cheerleaders, scoreboard, signals, crowd, etc. What exactly are you expecting to see? A command and control center built by Belichick with computer programmers decoding finger movements like something out of a sci-fi movie? Ha, keep dreaming…

__
Goodell admittedly destroyed all of the tapes, idiot. And no need for any sci-fi movie crap…he had people such as Ernie Adams deciphering the tapes as the game went on. The information gleaned from the tapes was used in the second half of games.

What's really sad is that this became an issue at all. It's always been a sad whiny coach who couldn't coach, so he decided to be a tattle tale about nothing. When the story first broke, those who truly wanted to know asked what rule the Pats broke. What came out of it is that it was nothing that was in "the rule book." Apparently there was a "memo" of sorts that seemed to indicate that it was league policy that teams were not to tape games with the purpose of benefiting from THAT game. That's why Belichick has always maintained the Pat's innocence. They never used the tapes to benefit the team for THAT game. It was never reviewed until the game was over.

Belichick wanted to contest it, but Kraft overruled him because he thought it would be a distraction to the main objective of the team, to win the Super Bowl.

So, as in all things, whether political or sports or whatever, there are those who reserve condemnation until all the facts are known and there are those who could care less what the facts are, as long as it gives they an opportunity to whine and complain.

Also, clownboy, the rule you cite was the crux of the controversey. It says you can't use any recording eqiupment to be used during the playing of the game. They revised that in 2006 to say you can't do it at all, but the memo was unclear. The NFL then sent out another memo in Sept 2007 clarifying the rule and that it was gonna be enforced. Then the Pats got busted. Wrong again

bozo BS part 1: I said Sony came out with 1rst video cassette tape in 1971, not that it was invented then. The public did not have portable video cassette recorders before 1971. That's why there was no rule to that effect.

bozo BS part 2: Goodell did get 8 tapes from 2001-3 from Walsh. Walsh said he had tape of Rams walkthru. Then he didn't. Then his lawyer arranged a meeting with Goodell to show what he did have to save face. Goodell wanted to see if there was anything new and if Belichick had told him the truth. Goodell said there was nothing new on the tapes. BB had told Goodell he had been taping since 2000. BB never used the word 'illegally' because it wasn't illegal. BB just told the complete truth.

Hope that clears things up for you bonzo. Never let the facts get in the way of one of your bad stories.

John Harbaugh: Patriots earned those championships.
??????????????????????????????????????????????

Harbaugh should be man enough to stand by his original comments. Mostly because they were accurate.

Any team can play well when they know what plays to expect which is exactly the advantage they enjoyed by taping their opponents walkthroughs.

The Patriots players won the games true enough. But the titles will always carry the stigma of having been influenced by illicit means.

There were soooo many people running around with portable video cameras in 1970. Huge problem. Sony cane out with the first video cassette in 1971. Shows what listening to this tool is worth.

Ray Dolby, Charles Ginsburg and Charles Anderson invented the video camera that was the first machine to record both image and sound...the technology was first demonstrated on April 14, 1956...long before the rule was promulgated in the NFL Constitution and Bylaws in February 1970.

http://www.wisegeek.com/who-invented-the-video-camera.htm

Goodell ordered the Pats to turn over all tapes from 2006-7. The only period it was illegal. Thems the facts. For the ones interested in them.

Goodell also got eight tapes from the 2001-2002 time period (a time period where taping from anywhere on the field - including the sidelines -was illegal, given that the rule had existed since 1970) and Belichick admitted to Goodell that he had been illegally taping signals since he joined the Pats in 2000.

Still, no rings since Spygate. Tell me why, Pats fans….

Ok - for starters, they have a completely different team than they had back then aside from a QB and a Head Coach. So with a completely different team (and much worse defense than those that WON those championships) you want them to somehow justify those rings simply because they wear the same uniforms? Give me Bruschi, Harrison, Vrabel, McGinest, Law, and Seymour again and we'll see what happens...
