Redskins bag a dozen undrafted free agents

Official announcements of undrafted free agent signings have slowed, but they haven’t come to an end.

The Redskins announced their group of signees on Thursday afternoon. They’ll be at the start of Washington’s rookie minicamp on Friday.

The 12 newest Redskins are Syracuse running back Antwon Bailey, Southern Miss wide receiver Kelvin Bolden, Louisiana Tech running back Lennon Creer, Oklahoma State center Grant Garner, Alabama wide receiver Darius Hanks, Cal linebacker Donnell Holt, Jacksonville State linebacker Monte Lewis, East Carolina wide receiver Lance Lewis, New Hampshire linebacker Brian McNally, Hawaii defensive tackle Vaugn Meatoga, Virginia cornerback Chase Minnifield and Michigan running back Michael Shaw.

Minnifield is an interesting and familiar name. He’s the son of longtime Browns corner Frank Minnifield and was expected to be picked in the second or third round coming into the 2011 season. He suffered a knee injury, though, and needed surgery in January that obviously had an impact on draft boards around the league.

I hope I’m wrong, but I have a feeling RGIII is going to be spending most of this season running for his life.

So will there be a lot of uproar resulting from them picking up a couple running backs via UDFA/Draft? There should be, they already have 2 on the active roster. What are they thinking..how dare teams draft for depth. Everything needs to be over-sensationalized.

Have you noticed there are no articles about Dolphins signing undrafted free agents.

They are so disgraced in Miami that not even undrafted free agents want to go there!

That’s a lot of RBs and WRs.

  7. mjkelly77 says: May 3, 2012 7:00 PM

Now all they need is a starting quarterback. But I did hear that Kirk Cousins kid is pretty good.

  8. k0mbucha says: May 3, 2012 7:01 PM

If Minnifield can get healthy he would be a great FA signing. I wouldn’t think he would participate in the rookie camp since it’s not mandatory but working on strengthening his knee for training camp.

Somehow I missed hearing about Minniefield’s injury and I was wondering why he wasn’t showing up on draft boards. Glad to hear the Skins signed him. If his knee comes around he’ll be a player.

  19. lolb23 says: May 3, 2012 8:49 PM

    No offensive line.

No 1st round draft picks for awhile.

3 # 3 WR’s picked up in FA, and two of them will ask to start

    crappy running game

and exactly 0 superstar NFL QB’s have ever come out of the Big 12 — ever.

I’m not saying RG3 will bust. But when he does I won’t be surprised.

Nice finish last year douche bag. Your team/owner/city/and anything associated with indy is a complete joke. A good run with peyton is now over and the colts will suck for the next 30 years. Eat it suckah.

    HTTR!!!!!

  21. footballfanman says: May 3, 2012 9:18 PM

Hey peytonsneck18 how many games did the colts win last year? 1? 2? Redskins won 5 with Grossman and Beck. And it’s spelled “sensitive” little buddy, now go back to school and let the adults have a conversation.

  22. blackqbwhiterb says: May 3, 2012 9:23 PM

I’ve read Minnifield and Lance Lewis are the surprise picks who WILL be productive members of the team…..I’d tell your where I read it, this site has linked to that site, but I don’t know if I’d be breaking protocol or anything………Point is, the Redskins are going to surprise a lot of haters this year!!!

  23. peytonsneck18 says: May 3, 2012 9:30 PM

DC is a joke and yr crackhead mayor, when was the last time you guys hosted a Superbowl, NCAA championship game, ? Had multiple pro bowls or last had a winning season? IRG3 WON’T GET UU THERE EITHER!!!, HTTR , HAHA , you have to be good to hail anything, and gave up a boatload of picks for IRG3, WHAT A JOKE OF A FRANCHISE, ALL HAIL TO DEZ NUTTS IN A SKINS FANS MOMMAS MOUTH!!!

  24. tonyromoisterrible says: May 3, 2012 9:32 PM

    @lolb
You obviously have no idea what you are talking about. The Skins have depth at every position with the exception of corner. Their o-line is deeper than it has been in years, and their draft was graded out as a B-B+ by pretty much all of the draft dorks that grade it. As far as the big 12 quarter back……. the only thing I can say is that there is always a first from every league to grab the attention of the world and I don’t mind if RG3 is that guy. Stop posting if you have no idea what you are talking about.

lolb23′s comments are just wrong, but amaf, as a presumable Redskins fan, your comments are embarrassing.

Despite the overwhelming perception that the Redskins Offensive line was horrific last season, the fact is that Washington surrendered 41 sacks last season: the 10th fewest in the NFL, and better than the Cowboys, the Giants, and the Eagles.

This was despite Washington losing its starting left guard and right tackle for nearly the entire season, and having its starting left tackle suspended for the final four games of the season.

On top of that, these stats were put up with Rex F. Grossman under center, and while not completely immobile, it’s not a stretch to call Sexy Rexy the least athletic quarterback in the NFL.

And on top of that, the Redskins used their 3rd round, 5th round, and 6th round selections on linemen in the draft. So yeah, I think it’s pretty safe to say that Griffin won’t be running for his life next year.

Additionally, @lolb23, no statement screams “my team sucked so I stopped following football at the end of the season” as much as “the Redskins have no running game”. Anybody who was paying any attention to the NFL in the later months of the season saw rookie Roy Helu rush for over 100 yards three consecutive weeks in his first three career starts. Then when he went down with an injury, fellow rookie Evan Royster came in and rushed for 100+ yards in his first two NFL starts to close out the season. So yeah, I think it’s fair to say the Redskins feel pretty good about their running back corps.

Just a quick Public Service announcement. Maybe I spend too much time on this site, but I’m fairly convinced that “Peytonsneck” is a Cowboys fan: the name “Peyton’s neck” is simply to be obnoxious to everybody, as it is obviously not something a Colts fan would celebrate, similarly, no DC fan would go by “Theismannsleg” or “Arringtonsmotorcyclecrash”.

What is very clear that his only source of happiness in life is harassing Redskins fans on the internet, so it would be best if the entire fanbase just tuned him out. It’s not like he will respond to rational arguments or engage in actual discussions of football like most of us are trying to.

Whether he’s a snotty 12 year old or an unbelievably pathetic 37 year old living in his mothers’ basement, the only thing that will get him off the computer and outside for some fresh air is for Redskins Nation to ignore him completely.

Redskins fans are annoying, you guys are huge douches with the HTTR, HAIL BStt, gett outta here, this is the same team who owner sued fans that couldn’t pay for season tickets cause of lost jobs, and a team who gave Albert Haynes-worthless 100 million, a DT, HA , that qb, wr money n yal gave it to a bumb, and a team who gave up boat loads of picks to draft IR-G3 , And u guys saved your picks and just drafted the better qb in round 4 with Cousins, fail to the redskins!!!!!

    @boysroll/peysonsneck18.

The Cowboys have all the talent in the world and they suck and probably always will suck. Just look at all the players on their team. It’s actually kind of funny. Best wishes to you and the Cowboys, i’m sure with only winning one playoff game in the past 15 years your so proud. lol.

FYI the Redskins have more in the past 15 years. lol.

  31. skinsfaninphilly says: May 5, 2012 1:36 PM

I must say that I find it hilarious that cowgays & the pigeons fans all say they same thing on here when trying to talk s*** on the skins..its always “Your owner just spends money on any player” “You gave Haynes-worthless 100mil” “Shanahan has only coached John Elway to a superbowl”. Umm since the Haynesworth signing..how many playoff games have your trams won? The skins could have gone 0-16 every year since then, that won’t change the fact that no matter how ‘good’ your team was during the season or what their record was..they still failed at their goal of winning the Superbowl, let alone winning any meaningful playoff games that got them close to the Superbowl.

Its like y’all dwell on the past of our misfortunes, but seem to forget that your teams past consist of the same thing we were doing around Superbowl time..watching it! I hear talk about how the skins fans dwell on our Superbowl from 91..but these are the same fans who’s teams last Superbowl was

  32. synacksyn says: May 5, 2012 5:26 PM

Fact. The Redskins will win thier next ring well before the cowturds do…

Unless you actually watched every game and not just fantasy stats you would know that a run is coming..this season we will have a better record then the turds..and the season after we make the playoffs…Fact.
