Other than 1 Super Bowl with the Packers in ’96, Holmgren has done Squat……..
_________

Eh, he got Seattle into the playoffs consistently which has historically been dificult for anyone to do. Of course that was only after his GM duties were taken away I believe.

I view him kind of like Parcells-made his bones in one place and gets by on that reputation alone.

This is just another example of why it's hard to say some quarterback are/were busts. If you throw a young quarterback to the wolves while equipping him with puppies what do you expect to happen? Tim Couch had a platoon of misfits, Matt Leinart had zero help for offensive line, Jason Campbell playing with 18 different coordinators, Alex Smith having buffoons as coaches early on. Ryan Leaf, JaMarcus Russel, and Akili Smith etc fit into the latter, just bad habits that crushed their chances. Colt McCoy will greatly benefit from sitting behind a veteran, Carson Palmer, Eli Manning, Tony Romo, Tom Brady, all of the best players have taken that route.

Before anyone takes this story to the bank, you should consider the source. Tony sees things quieting down about dumping Colt, so he has to stir up an old story again in hopes this one will be the one to get Colt shipped out of town because he can't stand him. Tony is the worst kind of reporter when he gets it in for someone.

It’s obvious from Florio’s accent that he is from the Pittsburgh area, and I’m guessing he is a Steelers fan, which makes sense considering his biased articles against the Browns. I know rivalry sucks these days, because the Browns do, but it wasn’t always this way, and Florio probably grew up hating the Browns and Cleveland. Old habits die hard, but it’s silly to allow it to make you post such pitiful drivel propaganda against Cleveland, Florio.
-----------------------------------------------
Okay. Now what explains all his nasty articles about the Steelers?

Hey Florio did I miss the part that didn't sound like speculative hearsay by a bitter 'journalist' or DID GROSSI TWEET THAT TO YOU?

Grossi reputation is a joke in Cleveland and your interpretation of Holmgren's call to ticket holder's in MANY articles here (and now this) was not only misguided but placing you in the same camp as Grossi. Is it Holmgren or the Browns as an organization that you have a problem with?

If you believe Colt's daddy influenced any decisions by the Browns' front office, I have a bridge to sell you. Good lord, being reported by Tony Grossi w/ no sources, as usual, would clinch it for anyone who knows anything about the factory of sadness . . .

Non-story made up by Grossi and posted here by his good pal, Florio . . .

a) well he did not say anything about having concussion. He said that his arm was hurt
b) No organization likes their own employees to publicly criticize them.
c) next time, he should man up and stand for himself. Don’t have your father criticizing the organization for you

Yeah, it wasn't like Colt looked like he had just dropped acid or anything. And it's not like any player would try to go back in the game no matter what. And it's not like anybody on the coaching staff saw the hit.... And it's not like your worthless fan base would have shredded him if he had taken himself out.

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh......hold on..........

That's why you don't leave the decision to the player. You people will say ANYTHING to piss on McCoy and defend your Arena league team.

Colt McCoy is a bitch. Out of all the QBs to come out of his draft class, I pegged him as the most likely to be a bust & career backup, at best. This kid has absolutely no heart or toughness either. If you remember his final year at Texas, they were facing Alabama in the BCS Championship Game. Colt took a light hit in the 1st quarter & got a "stinger" which resulted in him sitting the rest of the game. Texas was stuck playing true freshman Garrett Gilbert & got dominated in probably the WORST BCS Championship Game ever. Stories came out soon after the game that he was cleared by the Longhorns' doctors & trainers to return, but Colt's daddy stepped in & made the decision that Colt wasn't playing the rest of the game. He wasn't at risk of being injured any further, however his Daddy was concerned that if Colt played at anything less than 100%, he would not perform at a high level & would look bad for scouts at the game. Colt & his Daddy were more concerned about protecting Colt's draft status than they were about competing & possibly winning the biggest prize in college football. The little punk allows his Daddy to have way too much say in his career & the dude needs to grow up. The Browns should be happy about Colt's daddy pissing them off because they are a million times better with Brandon Weeden than they ever would have been with McCoy. The only real knock on Weeden is his age, which is a legitimate knock, however the kid can play. Weeden can make every throw that is needed ti be a solid NFL QB & even though he played in a shotgun, spread option offense at Oklahoma State, he has made some serious strides in his 3/5/7 step drops & may just be the most NFL-ready rookie QB besides Andrew Luck. His age, 28 (29 in October), will most likely result in him playing only 7-8 years, however his age is also an asset in that he is much more mature than the other rookie QBs. Mark my words right here, and I am very rarely wrong about these QB predictions: Brandon Weeden will have a better career than RGIII both statistically & team success. RGIII is one of the most overrated QBs to come out of college in a LONG time & the comparisons to Cam Newton are baseless & will be proven frivolous very quickly. The only similarity between Griffin & Newton is their skin color. Based upon combine numbers & visual proof, Luck is the one who possesses the closest athletic similarities to Newton; and Luck has a better arm, is more accurate, has been playing in a pro-style offense for 4 years and, most importantly, has been calling his own plays & audibling at the line after reading coverages & formations of the defense for 2 full years. Bye bye, Colt. Don't let the door hit your a$$ on the way out. Browns fans should be ecstatic because with Colt gone, they have the second best QB in this draft ready to start for them. Holmgren has always known what he's doing.

Bye bye, Colt. Don’t let the door hit your a$$ on the way out. Browns fans should be ecstatic because with Colt gone, they have the second best QB in this draft ready to start for them. Holmgren has always known what he’s doing.

Holgrem made his name off of Brett Frave’s back. He’s overrated and has never done anything since. Kinda reminds me of a certain HC in DC

__________________________

I guess making another Super Bowl with a former Favre backup in Hasselbeck is "nothing"? Only 28 men have coached Super Bowl champions, and only FOUR have ever taken more than one team to the Super Bowl, and Holmgren is one of them.

The truth is Holmgren's system made Favre who he was. It was the same system that Sherman picked up and ran during his time in Green Bay (having been Holmgren's OC in Seattle), and almost exactly the same system Childress brought to Minnesota (from Philadelphia where Reid coached, a former Holmgren assistant) and that's a big part of the reason Favre wanted to go Minnesota - the familiar system.

It was Holmgren who coached up Steve Young to get the "rabbit" of his blood, and it was Holmgren who finally found a way to drill a hole in Favre's extra thick skull and let the WCO sun shine in. Without Holmgren, Favre would have been Bubby Brister 2.0 AT BEST.

But as far as a GM or executive, Holmgren has, so far, proven to not be all that great. He spun his wheels in Seattle for two years, but once he brought Ted Thompson in from Green Bay to oversee player personnel, the Seahawks began their best run ever. And once Ted Thompson left Seattle began to sink off the charts (while having returned to Green Bay to be GM, well....).

Im sorry but anyone who knows Grossi at all knows that he has an agenda towards the Browns since being dismissed from the Plain Dealer (local paper) thanks to some slanted journalism the Browns took offense to. Since they have some significant influence in the local paper, they were able to assure his dismissal. Fair? Probably not. Still, the agenda is clear.

What most here are doing is taking Grossi's words (who has absolutely no sources at all in the Browns organization,...remember alienated) and turning them into facts. Grossi does have an agenda and it fits his agenda to paint the organization as bad and this is but one example of it. He is constantly doing it and will do it long after this story. He has an agenda, trust me.

Now about Colt. No organization is going to dismiss or demote a player because his daddy talked to the media about a concussion. Colt may have been called to a meeting asking for those type of events not to happen as things should be addressed "in-house" but it certainly isnt the reason he may be potentially demoted to backup.

The reason he is likely to be demoted? He has had 2 full seasons to produce and prove he could be the franchise qb. He has actually regressed after a rather promising rookie season. While I do think having better receivers, an o-line and a workhorse stud rb would certainly have helped,....there are some things that were rather glaring that deficiencies in the other area DID NOT create. He constantly stared down his receivers, could NOT put any touch on a deep ball or even a mid range. He could not read a defense at all and would constantly resort to throwing to his rb or te 3 yards out when the replay would CLEARLY show there were receivers WIDE OPEN. I just think the transition to the speed of the NFL has not worked out so far for him and the Browns are starving for wins now. He wont improve much with a better line or receivers as he is not able to get the ball downfield on time. So unless the Browns expect to win every game with 3 yard dump offs and handoffs then they needed to accept him as game manager and continue looking for their franchise qb. They believe they found that in Weeden. We shall see.

McCoy was not done wrong. The injustice was putting him back in the game the day of his concussion without having him checked out. The Browns should have been fined for that. His dad has every right to be concerned but would have been better served talking to the FO 1 on 1 on that to show his concern.

If anything, the Browns are the reason Colt even had a chance to make a name for himself in the NFL.

Three rounds into the draft (and very deep into round 3) was when the Browns drafted him. This means EVERY SINGLE TEAM IN THE NFL DID NOT THINK HE WAS STARTING MATERIAL.

The Browns afforded him the opportunity to start through injury VERY QUICKLY and with his opportunity he showed what he can do. He is a good leader, a good kid, certainly has fight and perserverance but he lacks key qualities I think are needed in the AFCN especially. You must be able to read a defense, you must be able to throw downfield on time and you must be able to audible (which he couldnt do).

So while I would have no problem if the FO felt like they are willing to continue with the McCoy project, I definitely understand why they moved forward with someone with a different skillset for the answer.

Move on.

I have not watched enough of McCoy to say how he has progressed or not. And before I agreed with the "not camp", I would question the talent he had around him.

I remember seeing the big hit, and couldn't believe how bad he was rocked. The fact he was in a few plays later was disgraceful.

Maybe his old man should keep his mouth shut. But if his old man didn't say it, Colt McCoy should have.

It's too bad because even with Weeden, Colt would be a great fit as a 1a/b starter, and a mentor. Even if his play isn't stellar he knows the system and has acclimated to the NFL game. His salary compared to Wallace is a steal.

But once again, logic is cast aside. Him staying in CLE just won't work at this point.

Ideally he should land on a good team, with a good supporting cast as a legitimate #2. Get some stability and work on his game with a new system, coach and teammates. Be patient and just wait for his opportunity to show what he can do.

Both sides should just move on.

Don't agree with how the Browns have handled Colt. He wasn't responsible for the Hillis debacle, which played a major factor in the Browns' decline last year from the year before. I was one of the kid's chief critics when he came out because he appeared so fragile--largely because his father, also his longtime coach, kept stepping in and pulling him out of games when his injuries were questionable. Colt finally got a chance to prove his toughness in the pros and won me over. And there goes Dear Old Dad again.

Yes, the Browns screwed him. Yes, he should have been pulled from the Steelers game--or at least given a cursory concussion exam on the sidelines. But that is a MAN and an NFL player. It's high time his dad stayed out of his business and let him do his own talking.
