Scott Pioli says the Chiefs aren’t trading Dwayne Bowe

There’s apparently been a rumor making the rounds which claims the Chiefs are thinking about trading wide receiver Dwayne Bowe.

Such rumors are news to us or you probably would have read something about them in these parts. Chiefs General Manager Scott Pioli has heard them, though, and he took some time during an interview on WHB Radio in Kansas City, via SportsRadioInterviews.com, to make sure that everyone knew there was nothing to them.

“I’ll tell you this: I had heard somone…I don’t know if it was said or written? I don’t know which one, but someone told me about it and I will say unequivocally 100% untrue,” Pioli said. “We never talked with anyone about a trade for Dwayne Bowe. I didn’t. Romeo didn’t. No one who would ever have anything to do with a trade called or talked to anybody nor did we field any calls, so wherever that came from I will say unequivocally 100% untrue. We did not talk nor are we looking to talk with anyone about a trade for Dwayne.”

There were reports before the draft that Bowe was thinking about signing the tag out of fear that the Chiefs were going to rescind it. That was contingent on the Chiefs drafting a wide receiver in the first round, but they went with Dontari Poe and Bowe’s status remained unchanged.

It doesn’t look like Bowe’s going anywhere so it’s just a question of whether he plays under the tag or if he signs a long-term deal.

  1. Dwayne Bowe would be so lucky.

He’s been highly productive with consistent scrub QB’s throwing to him.

Imagine how he would produce in NE, DET, GB, or even CHI.

  2. Pioli also said he doesn’t look at a player’s performance during the combine as much as he looks at tape. Subsequently drafts Dontari Poe (workout warrior).

  3. Bowe is an absolute stud. Is there anybody tougher going over the middle ? Good to hear Pioli say that. that means they WILL get him signed to a long term deal and he deserves it.

  4. I heard that John Elway was looking to trade Peyton Manning. Please let me know when he denies that. Also heard that the Pats were looking to trade Brady and the 49ers were looking to trade Patrick Willis.

  5. The fact that they are denying a “rumor” that never exsisted, and that they in fact just created, makes me believe 100% that they will try to trade Bowe.

  6. this is where bowe wants out so he can play for a team on the coast to get the big media attention. I hate being a chiefs fan cuz all our good players want out to play for big market teams. Teams like the jets and giants think they should have the best players poached from other teams. its insane

  7. I thought Cleveland already traded Brady Quinn, Peyton Hillis and Romeo Crennel for him. We’re just waiting for Bowe to pass his physical.

There is also the question of who the weasel is that started the rumor.

  9. @dirtcityryda One winning season in a decade…and you are going to start talking smack? Try winning your division or something.

  10. They did whoop the chiefs ass, fair statement to make. Bills did as well at arrowhead week 1, when they were fully healthy! Oh yeah isn’t that the excuse for finishing last in division last year…all those injuries
