Zach Brown says he’s not “allergic to contact”

NFL Network’s Mike Mayock had the line of the weekend during the draft, explaining that Titans linebacker Zach Brown is “somewhat allergic to contact.”

Brown, taken in round two, denies any suggestion that he shies away from taking and delivering hits.

“I use my finesse sometimes to get around the blocker to make a play,’’ Brown said, according to Jim Wyatt of the Tennessean.  “So for me, I want to prove [to] everybody [I’m not soft].  I am at Tennessee and I am going to try and make everybody else pay for passing me up, that is a chip on my shoulder.”

Browns thinks his wrestling background should be all the proof anyone needs.

“Some people did tell me that and I was like, ‘OK, line up across from me and then we’ll see who shies away from contact, who the better football player is,” Brown said.

Did Brown just issue a challenge to Mayock?

Wrestling and high speed collisions are completely different things.

Surprised there hasn’t been a player try to sue Mayock for causing someone’s draft position slip deep.

Because being an excuse-making-crybaby is the new strong.

Good luck “finesse” tackling MJD and Arian Foster.

“I use my finesse sometimes to get around a blocker and make a play.”

Sounds logical to me. There’s not a single LB on the planet that would call themselves a finesse tackler…

Mayock knows what he is talking about. Watch UNC games, and you will see what Mike is talking about. Of course Zach is going to defend himself (human nature). However, his (Brown’s) words can’t change what his body has already done. He is athletic, quick, skilled, but football soft. Though, I respect wrestlers 100%.

Coached against him when he was in high school. At the time we thought great athlete average footbal player at best. When playing good teams he did squat.

Yawn. Another guy who’s going to make 31 teams pay for not drafting him. Right.

No one sees the irony that at the same time all the hand wringing is going on about concussions, everyone is quick to criticize a guy who has the audacity to think it may actually be smarter to go around a blocker instead of through them once in awhile?

  16. eddiemeredith says: May 5, 2012 10:55 AM

Some of you guys are idiots… he isnt saying he uses finesse to make tackles but rather he uses his finese to avoid blockers on route to making the tackle. The dude runs a 4.45… i’m pretty excited about him

I know this is not an article advocating hitting someone hard…

The comments also are so funny after reading the Kirk Warner story. I thought the game was too dangerous to have people actually hit each other? Hypocrites….all of ya

I wanted him with the Rams last 2nd round pick, after we missed out on Mychal Kendricks. Unless Pead turns out to be the next Sproles, we might regret that trade down with the Bears.
