For the people who are comfortable with Goodell punishing another team besides their own, look at it this way -- Your team is in a game, a ref throws a flag and marches them back 15 yards, with no explanation as to why and no replays at all. The fans who pay to watch will accept penalties, fines and suspensions only when replays show clear evidence of the violation. They don't just accept Goodell's word and go back to happily watching the game. It has to be equally fair for all, especially when involving a dictator who'll eventually abuse his absolute power. He has to be called on it, just like anyone else, or it'll wind up like playing football in North Korea.

"A source close to Gregg Williams said"
"Bounty program"
"Peyton lied"
"22 to 27 Saint players involved"
"QB's targeted to end their careers"
He said, they said, ETC ETC ETC........
All of the above and much more has been "created" by and responded to, ad-infinitum, by every talking head in the media business.
In my opinion, if the league knew about this three years ago and Goodell's priority as Comish is to make the game safer, why wasn't it dealt with it then? How many players were intentionally injured during that time? It seems to me that the Comish was complicit in allowing this to continue. If opening up this can of worms by the Comish was to help negate damages awarded to retired players injury suits, then I think it may have back-fired on him.

They have the right to know why, and I believe they know exactly why. Now it seems that those who are involved are trying to spin this in the media to try to save face. The league doesn’t have to provide any evidence to the media or anyone else other than those who were involved. It’s just like any other employer giving discipline for violating policies… the employee being disciplined can say whatever they want; the employer has to be more discreet to protect their privacy.

You make me laugh frozen, if brett the man runs out of bounds or for the 1st down you win, only a idiot will throw the ball back across the field. You lose again…………….

Brett ran for something like two yards all season, doubt he was ever thinking anything but pass on that play.

Florio, I know you want all the evidence but it’s not your business to have it. Yes, you’re in the media but the NFL doesn’t have to disclose what it has. I’m one fan who’s comfortable with what the NFL has done here.

===================================

Translation- I'm comfortable with what the NFL has done because I don't like the Saints.

Just wait, if Goodell sticks around for awhile,he'll be coming for your team soon.

Unlike the players, Loomis,Williams,Vitt, and Payton don't have a union backing them. Goodell was judge, jury, and executioner on their particular cases.

God forbid you ever have legal trouble and require the services of a lawyer. How would you feel if everyone on the jury said You're guilty because the police said so,but refused to bring solid evidence to your trial proving it? Like it or not, that's basically what you're saying.

Apologies to Mike, but I'm as guilty as anyone who's laughed at lawyer jokes. I also know they're are needed in real life. Without them, we'd be living in a police state and mega corporations such as the NFL would essentially get away with murder without fear of punishment.

The NFL isn’t the government, the NFL is a Business. Should there be an investigation for everytime an employee is Terminated? Freaking Liberals.

Yes moron, the NFL is a business, and they owe the season ticket holders an explanation. If Godell is misrepresenting or exaggerating his so called evidence then we deserve to know because we have a personal stake in the success of our team. As for anyone questioning the coaches cooperation, of course they're not going to rock the boat, they don't want to lose their jobs for good. These guys have great jobs with great pay, I wouldn't want to lose that either.

So maybe I am the only guy that heard the audio (admittedly released by a total d-bag) where Williams was naming specific body parts on specific opposing players that his defensive players should target…go back, listen to it, and then come on here and TRY to justify it. If that wasn’t a “bounty program”, then how would you describe it?

----------------------------------------------------------------

I classify it with the same other crass vile vulgar talk that happens in lockerrooms across this game we call NFL football. Your team does it to i'm sure.

Unless you can prove there was intent by the players, specific actions and results of these actions, then you have nothing but talk.

How can you assume the players just didn't ignore it. The evidence of not 1 single cartoff or major injury to opponents in 3 yrs would suggest that interpretation.

Wihtout real evidence you can't go with this innuendo.

Who would have thought that the real scum in this story is not the Saints but a corrupt vile NFL led by a ugly bottom of the barrel lawyer Goodell.

This case is full of holes, lies, exaggerations, mispresentations, and is crumbling all over the place.

Sounds like Ed Werder was right in saying the Saints had this scheme in place for 2 games and that too it was a fake by GW telling Vilma to bring money to the meeting and then gave it back to him.

No injuries, no seeming intent to injure, just a bunch of talk. And with Roger seeing this as a way to mitigate concussion lawsuits and ask for a 18 game schedule while pretending to care about safety.

The Saints have to be made whole again by return of picks, fines, and revoking of suspensions. This is a pure hit job railroading.

Can't wait till this ends in Goodellgate, that guy is gone.

You just don't get it do you?

The Saints Defensive Players did NOTHING in that game that even remotely looks like a "bounty".

They barely even hit or tackled anybody for crying out loud.

They had ZERO penalties.

If there had been a bounty, and if it was acted upon, I guarantee you somebody would have gotten hurt. The average NFL player outweighs me by 100 pounds and I can take the ACL out on any one of them by just running at them full bore from the side and diving at their knees.

This whole "bounty" thing is a figment of Roger Goodell's imagination. This is all about over 1,000 concussion lawsuits brought by former players and Roger is worried about the long term financial viability of the league.

There were no bounties, just talk.....

This is the same thing as a company suspending their employee. A company is not required to divulge all information to said employee unless it goes to a court. The NFL has no obligation to reveal anything to anyone let alone the media and the public. These players are not facing criminal charges so they do not have any rights."
_________________________
Actually, the legally-binding CBA does give the players rights to certain information -- this is not the same as a company suspending its non-union employees. But that is really not the issue here. The NFL is hyper-sensitive about its image and knows that its success depends on the public's confidence in the integrity of the game, which is why they imposed such harsh punishments. However, with all the conflicting information out there, the public has ZERO confidence in the integrity of this process. Therefore, legal obligations aside, it is in the league's interest to disclose the "proof", to make sure they don't lose fans over this.

Mike Florio, some of us have been banging the "Where is the evidence" drum since March 2. Glad to have you and other responsible members of the media aboard.

This "protecting the whistleblowers" excuse for not releasing the evidence is baloney. The entire bountygate episode is about Goodell using the Saints as cannon fodder to protect the league in the liability lawsuits.

My guess is that the 50,000 pages show something the league does not want made public - either that the league did nothing for years about the evidence of the Saints bounty program, or that they did not follow up on evidence that showed similar bounty programs existed with many other teams, or that the league indeed followed up on evidence that similar bounty programs existed with many other teams, but they covered it up so as not to show how widespread the league's liability really was.

Baseball and Basketball suck because of mismanagement by their respective Commissioners. The NFL under Goodell is becoming another joke league.

The current issues: concussions, bounties, illegal hits, current and former player salaries, CBA are very important things to resolve. But Goodell is not handling any of these effectively. He wants player safety, but wants 18games? My guess is that he and the owners want 18 games, but played at basketball level physical contact. My guess is that the money being made will be the same as now or less because less fans will be willing to watch/attend when the game is changed to a 'puff' league. I know I won't be watching this flag football.

That's if any or much of this is NOT true.
