The Chicago Bears continue the process of getting the team’s draft picks under contract, adding their second pick of the day and the third of the 2012 class.
Tight end Evan Rodriguez has agreed to terms on a four-year deal, the team announced on Tuesday afternoon.
Rodriguez, a fourth-round pick from Temple, gives the Bears something they didn’t have and/or use very much under former offensive coordinator Mike Martz -- a pass-catching tight end.
A bit undersized as tight ends go at 6'1" and 239 pounds, Rodriguez ran the 40-yard dash at the Scouting Combine in 4.56 seconds.
He’ll be used as a fullback and the so-called “F” tight end, who will from time to time line up in the slot. With opposing defenses surely locking on to receiver Brandon Marshall, Rodriguez’s speed and size (in comparison to many cornerbacks) could give him an edge.
