Cardinals interested in re-signing Clark Haggans and Vonnie Holliday

The Cardinals are tight against the cap right now, but they are still looking to add veteran free agents to their roster.

Kent Somers of the Arizona Republic reports that the team is interested in re-signing linebacker Clark Haggans and defensive end Vonnie Holliday. Both men became unrestricted free agents after the 2011 season and haven’t generated much interest on the market. Somers expects both players to be back in the fold next month.

Haggans started 16 games for the Cardinals last year, but he would be returning as a backup this season. O’Brien Schofield and Sam Acho are ticketed for starting outside linebacker roles this season. The team is thin behind them, though, and Haggans already knows the system. Holliday was a rotation player on the defensive line last year and he would fill the same role in 2012 if he returns to the Cardinals.

Per Somers, the Cardinals aren’t concerned about creating cap space for the two players. It would be easier if they could get defensive end Calais Campbell, who they franchised this offseason, squared away with a new contract, although there are no signs that such a deal is close.

Sign Campbell quick to a long term deal and then Haggans and Holliday would sign for league minimums at thier positions. Solid back ups. Cards defense will be really good this year as long as the offense can help keep them off the field. They are way underrated.

Sam Acho is a stud; Cards found a good one with him. He is someone all solid football fans will know after next season.

I can’t believe Vonnie Holliday has stuck around as long as he has.

Not sure I understand. I don’t remember Vonnie Holliday being on the Steelers.

Vonnie Holiday has had an amazing career — guy must be built of steel.

Hope he’s been smart with his $$$$.
