Adam Caplan reports that the Chargers have reached a four-year contract agreement with second-round pick Kendall Reyes.
Reyes, the 49th overall selection in last month’s draft, will compete for playing time opposite 2011 first-rounder Corey Liuget in San Diego. Reyes’ competitors for snaps will include Luis Castillo, Vaughn Martin, and Jacques Cesaire.
After a big Senior Bowl week, Reyes began showing up in some first-round mock drafts, so he had the look of a value pick at No. 49. A 6-foot-4, 300-pound defensive tackle in UConn’s 4-3, Reyes will play five-technique end in the Chargers’ 3-4.
Reyes notched 32.5 career tackles for loss and 11.5 sacks as a 41-game starter at Connecticut. He was a two-time Huskies team captain and earned first-team All-Big East honors as both a junior and senior.
