The Colts need to hire some SEC coaches to get around the salary caps. They’re masters at circumventing NCAA rules with in paying off , er getting recruits to come to their school with “special” slot machines, “donations” to parents’ churches, free housing, special handshakes, hoes, etc.

Is this really about counting against the cap? I doubt it. It would just be a business expense, just like the cost to travel to away games, training camp, hotels, etc. Problem is that it can’t be categorized as a business expense because that would be admitting to extra team sponsored OTAs. I’m sure that was the message the league conveyed and then resulted in the grounding of Irsay’s plane. Has nothing to do with whether Luck is signed or not. All about penalties for violation of the CBA.

Folks, as far as the NFL is concerned, the Colts own Luck. They own his rights. He’s, at best, like a restricted free agent. And flying a free agent in and out for a visit isn’t the same as what is being offered here.

Exactly, someone gets it. Also, to everyone saying that its only a couple hundred dollars, do you really think you can rent a private jet to be on standby and take you anywhere you want to go for a couple hundred dollars? Because that’s what was offered.

But Luck hasn’t officially signed yet. Theoretically he could never sign and go back into the draft next year.

If Luck is unsigned and use of the plane would count against the cap, then why doesn’t it count against the cap when free agents are flown into suitor cities?? Additionally when a player experiences a sudden tragedy, use of the private jet would count against the cap right?

I don’t see how this would be an issue, if Luck were allowed to participate in practices. However the whole reason he is going back to Stanford is because he isn’t allowed to work, and thus any use of that plane would be person use, and even if it weren’t construed as personal use, then it would be for him to then join a sanctioned work out which would violate the CBA.

Don’t you mean that others pointed this out and Florio used their pointing for an article? He didn’t put any concern about it in his initial article covering the plane declaration, but fans pointed it out in comments and Ross Tucker pointed it out on Twitter, which Florio used to springboard off of.
