Safety George Iloka is the first member of the 2012 Bengals draft class to sign a contract.
Eric Edholm of Pro Football Weekly reported Wednesday that Iloka has reached agreement on a four-year deal with the team. He was drafted in the fifth round, part of a 10-player class for the Bengals.
Iloka’s size — 6’4″, 225 pounds with long arms — mades him an intriguing safety prospect going into the draft with some predicting he’d go before the end of the second day. He dropped to the Bengals, though, and they likely look at Iloka as a potential answer to some of the supercharged tight ends running around the league. The Bengals don’t have a set starter next to Reggie Nelson. Taylor Mays might have the inside track on the spot, but Iloka and Robert Sands could also get a look this summer.
The Bengals hold rookie minicamp this week, which makes it likely Iloka won’t be the last signing in the next few days.
