Jaguars had no kicker, and now they do

With kicker Josh Scobee not yet signing the franchise tag and with OTAs coming, the Jaguars needed a kicker.  Because, well, they didn’t have one under contract.

Now they do.

Brandon Coutu, a seventh-round pick of the Seahawks in 2008, has joined the team.

Coutu was out of football in 2009 and 2010 before having a thimble of coffee with the Jags and two other teams in 2011.

The Jaguars and Scobee have made no progress toward a long-term deal.

That contract is going to be hard to work out now the Scoobee knows how much the Jags value kickers. If you are willing to spend a 3 rounder on a unproven punter, how much are you willing to spend on a proven kicker?

Now all they need is a QB, RB, #2 Receiver, TE, Oline, Dline, LBers, CBs, Safeties and a fanbase that cares enough to showup at the Stadium on Sundays and they’ll be set, brother.

I remember seeing Coutu in person when he was at Georgia… this guy gets amazing height on his place kicks. Not saying he can beat out Scobee but he’s definitely a guy I would have thought could play in the NFL. I guess all 32 teams in ’09 and ’10 disagree with me…

So, they went from franchising their kicker, to signing a 7th round pick to kick for them.

    lol, only in Jacksonville.

They should have waited and got one in the first round next year

Me thinks the bleach has given Mr. Hogan brain damage.

Here are some inconvenient FACTS about the fanbase in Jax:

    1) In 2011, Jaguars have a higher average attendance than the Cardinals, Raiders, Dolphins, Rams, Bucs, Bengals

    2) Jaguars avg 2011 attendance (62,173) would lift blackout at Seahawks, Rams, Bucs, Bengals, Steelers, Lions, Vikings, Cards, Raiders, Colts & Bears

    3) SD, Cle, StL, Wash, TB, Mia and Cin have all sold a lower % of their stadium in 2011 than Jax

    4) In 2010, the Jaguars averaged 51 fewer fans per game than the Steelers.

    5) No Jaguars games have been blacked out since 2009

There are more, but that’s probably enough to get my point across, which is do some research before parroting the lazy (and uninformed) national media. They’re making you look stupid.

You would think that if you are willing to spend a third round pick on a punter he’d at least be able to pull double duty as an all purpose kicker.

Its pretty bad when your team’s biggest news is your kicker signing a long term contract. Maybe when they get to L.A., they can be more entertaining.

Hey brother, All I can say is the Jaguars haven’t been on the radar since Mark Brunell could throw 30+ yards without dislocating his shoulder. In 3 years or so, that franchise will be in Los Angeles, brother.

They should have just stuck with Long Ding. It’s not like him or Coutu will play for the Jags anytime soon.
