i want to build a new house. roughly $1 million. i will create numerous construction jobs. i will be paying property taxes. all great for Minnesota! think of all the money going to the school districts! that creates teachers jobs!

Therefore, the taxpayers should give me $500,000 for this new house of mine. home ownership is just what MINNESOTA IS ALLLLLLLL ABOUT.

it’s the EXACT same thing.
----------------------------------

Actually, a closer metaphor would be:

You want to build a new hotel. It will be top of the line, all the amenities, the kind of place that movie stars, pop stars, and Hiltons would stay at if they had need to come to Minnesota. Your business model says that, in the time you will be using it, you will gross somewhere in the neighborhood of $400 million and employ a staff that will be paid $150 million.

We, the Minnesota taxpayers, will give you half of the billion dollars you need to build it. In exchange, you will get to use it from June through August, and the state will use it and keep all revenue generated from September through May. You must operate there every year during these dates for 30 years. You will pay 2.7% of the state contribution each year to use it (which comes out to about 80% of what we gave you in the first place). We thank you for contributing, in total, around $850 million towards a facility that we, the state of Minnesota, will get to use to our own benefit through a majority of the year.

And any businessman who agreed to this deal would be mocked incessantly. But, since it an already successful businessman whose employees are mostly spoiled rich kids, some people decide to get their thongs all twisted around over the idea of the state making this kind of deal. I'm beginning to think that chess should be required teaching in our schools, just so people start learning to think beyond the immediate move.

The truth? You apparently don’t know it. Where do you pull 1969 from???? Green Bay was playing games in Milwaukee well before that. Financial considerations in the 30′s forced the Packers to play games in Milwaukee…it wasnt for lack of fan interest or not being able to sell out games…County Stadium was much larger than Green Bay’s City Stadium…could hold more people…initially there was hope the Packers would move to Milwaukee full time.
------------------------------------

Uhhhhh..... Not that I would ever dream of pointing out inaccuracies in the posts of known packer trolls (snicker), but Lambeau was built because the NFL threatened to force the team to move if a better venue wasn't built.

Also, the Packers continued playing home games in Milwaukee until 1994, which, ironically, was the first time in 25 years that the Packers looked the least bit relevant on the NFL landscape. While I will not refute your assessment that financial concerns were the driving force behind the games in Milwaukee, I have to wonder about the timing of the ending of that arrangement and the apparent cessation of the "financial need". But, since I was not attending Packer games in the 70s and 80s, I won't make claims about the "loyalty" and "class" of Packer fans when the team wasn't winning.

I really don’t see any surprises coming from the Minneapolis city council.....

----------------

Not true. Since Ryback let the REAL numbers slip ($150 million up front and $600 million more over the next 20 years for Minneapolis residents only) I hear that the two Council "fence sitters" who voted for it in pre-legislative form are now looking to bail. Their constituents have guaranteed they are going to be voted out if they don't flip back.

The fat lady has NOT sung yet.......

Been 20 years since I was in Minnesota. Best steak I ever had was at Linde’s. Is that place still open with only 3 steak items on the menu?

Congrats, MN. I was rooting for you!

I live in Arden Hills, and yes Lindeys is still open. Great steaks!! Recently voted best steak house by City Pages. Not sure about the 3 steak items. Skol Vikes!!!!!

"Hmm.. The Vikings just went through two of the worst seasons that they have ever endured and fans STILL sold out the Metrodome every game.

Meanwhile, I’m sure you conveniently forget that between 1969 and 1992 The GREEN BAY Packers had to play half of their home games in MILWAUKEE every year because they couldn’t sell out non-divisional games at Lambeau.

The truth hurts when you’ve only been a fan of the Packers since the mid-nineties, doesn’t it?"
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
And how many tickets in the last 2 seasons were bought by corporations or the Vikings themselves to avoid a blackout? I remember your home PLAYOFF game 3 years ago was in danger of being blacked out, pathetic!!! Lambeau field has been sold out since 1960 and has 80k on their waiting list. The Vikings currently have 0 on their waiting list. The Packers playing in Milwaukee had NOTHING to with being unable to sell out Lambeau. But you wouldn't be the first clueless Viking fan I've encountered.

Packer and Steeler fans are in a class of their own, Viking fans can't touch them and fall somewhere in the class of Cardinal or Jaguar fans in the realm of loyalty.

So the Vikes play one more @ HHHM, then they trash it and build on the same site while Vikes play 2 years @ UM? Is that right?

There is a reason the 3 million registered voters of Minnesota aren’t given a vote on these things. It would never get approved. And the 190,176 registered voters of Anoka County would have given the same fate in Arden Hills. And the 690,586 registered voters for Hennepin County would have come to the same results. I guess there isn’t face paint for not wanting to fund a billionaire real estate developer to fund his real estate. And NOW Zygi says he’ll kick in more money for a retractable roof, but said the extra 105 million was unworkable. Hmmmm. He sure does seem happy now addays though doesn’t he?

Man, just go away. All of those registered voters wouldn't even pass a tax to fund their child's school activities and that included education.

The truth? You apparently don't know it. Where do you pull 1969 from???? Green Bay was playing games in Milwaukee well before that. Financial considerations in the 30's forced the Packers to play games in Milwaukee...it wasnt for lack of fan interest or not being able to sell out games...County Stadium was much larger than Green Bay's City Stadium...could hold more people...initially there was hope the Packers would move to Milwaukee full time.

Genius idea...everyone should be able to vote on everything!

That way people who don't have kids can vote against funding schools, people with jobs can vote against welfare and unemployment benefits, people who don't hunt and fish can vote against DNR expenditures, people who have health insurance can vote against state medicaid.

Absolutely, the people should be allowed to vote on every expenditure the state makes...

I really don't see any surprises coming from the Minneapolis city council. With the way this deal is set, Minneapolis comes out of this deal better than the Vikings or the state. They get to extended an existing hospitality tax (a tax that only the state has the authority to say what it is used for) to pay their portion. But they also get to divert some of that tax to pay for and to upgrade the Target Center. Plus, because the payments for the Target Center will no longer come from property taxes, the Minneapolis citizens get property tax relief. AND, the city gets a small portion of the so called "claw back" if the team were to be sold! I would question the sanity of a city councilor that doesn't go along with a deal that good.

I really don’t see any surprises coming from the Minneapolis city council. AND, the city gets a small portion of the so called “claw back” if the team were to be sold! I would question the sanity of a city councilor that doesn’t go along with a deal that good.
