49ers fifth-round pick Darius Fleming suffers torn ACL

Darius Fleming, a linebacker from Notre Dame chosen by the 49ers in the fifth round of the draft, will not play his rookie season.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports that Fleming tore his ACL during his first rookie minicamp practice.

There was no contact in the drill when Fleming went down, but he bent his knee awkwardly and couldn’t continue. Initial reports said Fleming suffered a hamstring injury, but an MRI confirmed that it’s actually a torn ACL, which almost certainly means Fleming won’t play until 2013.

Fleming signed his four-year, $2.264 million contract the day before the injury.

Smart move, signing that contract before minicamp started. Get well soon, Fleming.

Remember how the Niners suffered no really significant injuries last year, aside from WR Morgan breaking his ankle on a passing play with a 40 point lead? Yeah, Willis missed a couple of games, but they pretty much avoided the injury bug all last year.

Go and look up “regression to the mean” and apply it to the Niners and injuries this season.

Son of a… Really needed him for depth but hopefully Cam Johnson can step up for us. At least the kid was under contract…

Ted Ginn was a pretty significant injury…

Huh, I’m surprised to see there was a Notre Dame defender the Vikings didn’t draft last month.

At least we know a bounty wasn’t involved.

You mean like when Shawntae Spencer went down in preseason and Chris Culliver filled in great.

Or when Willis went down and Larry Grant Kicked butt.

Or when Frank Gore got injured and Kendall Hunter tore it up.

Tedd Ginn… Sorry for having two starting quality lineups in our roster

Does anyone know how much he will actually get paid while injured this season?

Its hard to keep track of real $ and pretend $ when it comes to NFL contracts!

ACL and achilles tendon injuries are happening like they are cool. whats the deal with that? its like every day you hear about one of these. heads need to start taking glucosamine or something.

You hear that Cam Johnson smells like opportunity to me! Go Niners

    @trollhammer20

I don’t think that term means what you think it means.

Either way Gore and Willis got injured, in addition to Morgan. How many teams lost their best offensive and defensive players for any period of time?

The reason it doesn’t really seem like the 49ers had any major injuries is because they still did well.
