Bears have all their draft picks signed

Brandon Hardin AP

All of the Chicago Bears’ draft picks are now under contract.

The Bears announced Tuesday morning that their only unsigned draft pick, third-round safety Brandon Hardin from Oregon State, has signed a four-year contract.

This is a big, fast, physical, dynamic athlete,” Bears General Manager Phil Emery said of Hardin after the draft. “We feel like we’re going to get a lot of mileage out of Brandon right from the get-go in terms of special teams and working as our third or fourth safety. Right now he needs to earn that and see how far he goes.”

Hardin did not play at all in 2011 because of a broken shoulder injury, but he was healthy in time to play in the East-West Shrine Game in January and was on the field at the Bears’ rookie minicamp.

Wow. This never happened under Jerry Angelo. Looks like the Bears organization is focused. Now all the players can concentrate on preparing for the upcoming season. Hope all the Bears stay healthy!

This always happened under Angelo. Picks were always signed early. Angelo had a tendency for picking players with injury histories. This always happened under Angelo.

The Bears have been signing their draft picks early for some time now.
The problem they had with Angelo as the G.M. was not signing the picks, it was him making picks that never panned out.

Cliff Stein (Bears contract negotiator/rep.) has actually made it a habit of signing their picks early. It was the one part of the front office that had it’s stuff together during the Jerry Angelo years.

It has more to do with the new rookie wage scale than the GM’s. But truthfully looking at this draft simply on paper it looks no different than any Angelo draft.

The Bears were always among the first teams to have their picks signed under Jerry Angelo. They also drafted safeties–every year. That said, I’m hopeful that history does not repeat itself, and that Hardin stays healthy and effective for a long time. We’ll see…

The man’s name is Cliff Stein. He is and has been responsible for the early signings. Good strategy of negotiating in the middle.

I’m very excited about this guy Hardin!!! I felt like Major Wright was growing and will likely be a starter for the Bears for many years but on the other side I felt like we needed to get better! Conte & Steltz held it down the best they could but neither excelled at the position! After watch Hardin’s WORKOUT TAPE I could tell he was gonna be an above average defender in the league!! I just hope he can get up to speed & earn some playing time early on, maybe even break thru as the starter around mid season!!

You have an amazing ability to be able to tell someone how a rookie class has turned out before they take a single snap.

How did such an astute person like yourself get stuck flipping burgers when you have magical powers?

    BEAR DOWN!

I honestly think that they drafted athletic fast guys who can hit for the purpose of replacing Urlacher and Briggs. Seriously think about it. Urlacher started as a safety in college before switching to LB and has become one of the top LBs in the past decade. Hardin is 6’3″ 217 – lb with a tenacity to hit hard. Big, fast, and physical works and he can cover. McClellin can play LB if the team needs him too.

Hence why I said “on paper” reading is fundamental. It wasn’t even a knock on the Bears you fool

Stein does a great job ever year, and what is this now the bears have selected a safety in the 3rd round 3 years in a row. I think losing Danieal Manning hurt us a bit.

I just hope Hardin can take Wright outta the line up. How do u get burnt in Cover 2? Ask Major… Hardin and Conte would be solid if Hardin has the skills. And if Steltz wasn’t such a good special teamer he wouldn’t even be on the team. Don’t let the end of last season fool you, Steltz is not safety material
