Falcons sign third-round pick Lamar Holmes

The Falcons are down to one unsigned draft pick.

They announced Tuesday that they have come to agreement on a four-year contract with tackle Lamar Holmes. Holmes, who played at Southern Miss, was taken in the third round with the 91st overall pick of the draft.

Holmes could only watch his new teammates during the team’s rookie minicamp over the weekend because of a foot injury that has him in a walking boot. The Falcons didn’t know he was hurt when they picked him, but found out at a physical last week about what they called a “minor” problem. Holmes’ return date isn’t known, but he was probably destined for a backup role this year anyway. There’s been a lot of talk about replacing left tackle Sam Baker, but Holmes probably isn’t ready to start at left tackle.

Defensive end/linebacker Jonathan Massaquoi, a fifth-round pick, is the only Falcons draft pick not yet under contract.
