Darrius Heyward-Bey regrets bringing bad attention to Raiders

Raiders wide receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey took a moment to address his recent DUI arrest on Tuesday.

Heyward-Bey was arrested April 7th on the Bay Bridge and formally charged with drunk driving last week. He’s set to appear in court at the end of the month and his lawyer says that Heyward-Bey will plead not guilty. Heyward-Bey didn’t talk about his legal plans, preferring to direct his comments to Raiders fans.

“I just kind of regret bringing bad attention to the team, for the most part,” Heyward-Bey said, via Jerry McDonald of the Bay Area News Group. “Want to let the fans know that I’m here, working hard, trying to get on the same page with Carson and looking forward to the season.”

Even if you understand Heyward-Bey has to be somewhat circumspect because of the ongoing case, there’s something about words like “kind of” and “for the most part” that take the punch out of an apology. Or “kind of” apology, as the case may be. At any rate, better to say something to acknowledge what happened instead of pretending it isn’t out there.

Of more importance to Raiders fans might be the fact that this is Heyward-Bey’s first legal issue, so there may not be any punishment coming from Roger Goodell as a result. With Heyward-Bey coming off the best season of his career, the Raiders and their fans would surely take any kind of apology if it helps keep him on the field for all 16 games in 2012.

Drunk drivers are some of the worst people around. With any luck, DHB learned a valuable lesson from this and considers himself lucky he didn’t hurt someone.

I’m glad he feels bad and understands he let the team down.

Having said that, one more slip up and I’d ship his ass to Cincinnati.

Drinking and Driving is fine, unless you are so drunk u cant walk.
People have been having a few beers and then driving for 100 of years.
DUI’s are nonsense, its just a way to make the state money..
If the government really thought it was so bad why do bars have parking lots?

Whoever uses the screen name hue Jackson can compare them self to a piece of poop because that is exactly what you are after that comment. Complete madness going on in your mind. You must have been arrested multiple times for DUI or are on parole for something to have an answer like that.

Initiation for the raiders requires at least one arrest.congrats DHB you’re officially part of the raider organization

“I just kind of regret bringing bad attention to the team, for the most part” ….. what exactly does this mean?
To me it means nothing. “Kind of” & “most part” mean nothing in my world.

yeah cause the raiders never get bad pub…..maybe stop signing these idiots and in his case busts.

Anyone wanna set odds on whether or not huejackson rides a 49cc scooter to work?

  13. pdma7 says: May 16, 2012 11:50 AM

If he drives in any way like he plays, no wonder he was pulled over.

  14. commitment2excrement says: May 16, 2012 11:55 AM

What about saying sorry for stealing a top 10 pick paycheck for 2 out of 3 years? What’s that you say? There are plenty of other Raider picks more deserving? Ok got me.

  15. pantherpro says: May 16, 2012 12:03 PM

Of course he was coming back from the City! Can’t blame a guy for not wanting to hang in Oaktown! This chump is perfect for Raiders! Heard he was wearing Raider eye patch when pulled over!

  16. ezwriter69 says: May 16, 2012 12:20 PM

Nice try, dude… You’re kind of a joke, for the most part.

  17. friendlylittletrees says: May 16, 2012 12:29 PM

DUI should equate to permanent loss of license and a severe beating.

  18. 34bo34 says: May 16, 2012 1:00 PM

I bet everybody on here has been legally considered drunk and driven a car ( unless you don’t drink at all). Many of have just gotten lucky, so don’t act like hey-bey is a murderer. Many of you are just as guilty!

The officer decided to arrest DHB after he dropped the breathalyzer.

Dudes got no body fat . He could get hammered putting rubbing alcohol on a cut .

I see alot of hate for drunk drivers & I get it . A girl down the street was killed by a driver on a cell phone. Food for thought .

He didn’t drop many the last time he played against the Chargers. 9 for 130.

A bust on AND off the field.

He’s a hero in Oakland though. Go figure. It’s basically a penal colony already.

um dude you joined the Raiders. It’s kinda in the job description that you have to bring some bad attention to the club or else you won’t fit in with the image.

  25. blackdonnelly says: May 16, 2012 6:39 PM

    huejackson:

    Are you serious?

Drinking & driving has ZERO positive attributes – it usually ends badly for anyone involved. As a commercial driver, I myself have to pay even MORE attention to myself when I drink. If I took a DUI pinch, that’s the end, period. I lost my license & my job, and I can’t have that.

Although I suppose drive-thru cashiers @ Wendy’s probably don’t have the same concerns about drinking & driving as conscientious drivers do…….commercial or otherwise.

  26. radrntn says: May 16, 2012 6:53 PM

well i know why guys like pantherprobe, dumbolt, sweetcheeks sourdough, and sickster35 post on raiders topics…because their team pages have nobody, and zero comments…..these haters are just jealous of the nation, and the love that the fans have of THE RAIDERS!

  27. botchedextrapoint says: May 16, 2012 7:21 PM

I don’t know if the raiders do this but most teams have a driver that will pick up a player and their car anywhere so they don’t get DUI charges. There is no excuse for any NFL player to get done.

Add that one to your team’s long list of regular season accomplishments and post season failures. The San Diego Chargers. Still on the outside looking in, still wondering what it feels like to be champion, even once.

    @slickster, humbolt, pantherpro, commitmenttotrolling-

It’s good to see you boys getting your RAIDERS fix for the day. I for one haven’t trolled the chargers, panthers or whatever garbage team you boys root for.

It’s a new era in RAIDER NATION, you had better get back in your seat and put your seatbelt on- it’s about to be a turbulent year for the haters.

The RAIDERS gave away the division last year, it won’t happen in 2012. They have this wrapped.

Hey faidfan. We lost to you on two blocked FG tries, otherwise we win the division. You didn’t give anything away to anybody.

With all our injuries, we should have won the division, but for an idiot for a special teams coach who couldn’t make an adjustment to save his pathetic life. W

Whats even funnier is that the idiot special teams coach in question is now your new special teams coach.

LOL, faiders, where losers go to lose more. Good luck with that bum to add to the rest of your pathetic coaching staff that includes a bum you’ve already had come through as your OC, and a new head coach who just last year was a failure as the donkeys DC.

I know, I know, RM is going to work miracles with all this “talent”. faider delusions continue…

@slickster: Seriously? You know it’s the chargers you’re rooting for, right?
