Watching Brett Favre walk into Lambeau in purple and hearing the Packer fans boo him and call him “Judas”? Probably one of the highlights of my time as an NFL fan.

For the record….watching the dongslinger throw that pick against the Saints in the NFC Championship game was almost as exhilerating as watching Gary Anderson miss that FG against the Falcons in theirs. Almost.
---------------------------------------------
Ah yes, that interception was the BEST of Favre's career! I couldn't have been happier!
And the beating he took, that was just gravy!

I still have a Favre auto'd jersey hanging in my office. Loved the guy. Still respect his time here until he turned into the diva egomaniac and put himself above all others.

abqpacker, he isn't going to be playing special teams at his age. The money has always been irrelevant. It is about the roster spot. The Packers have two young guys in Gurley and Borel who where paid extra last year to stick with the team. Both have been special team standouts.

I love DD, one of my favorite Packers but keeping him right now isn't what is best for the team.

My hope is DD is offered a marketing role and a way to stay with the team after his playing days.

The fact that Mike McCarthy was at DWTS the other night may give some indication that no one with the Packers is angry with him.

Plus, he's already offered to take a pay cut to stay - so the 2.6M is irrelevant.

Plus, plus - who says he wouldn't play special teams?

Watching Brett Favre walk into Lambeau in purple and hearing the Packer fans boo him and call him “Judas”? Probably one of the highlights of my time as an NFL fan.

---------------------------------------

Did Packer Nation do that to Ryan Longwell? To Darren Sharper? No. The Reason? They didn't treat the Packers like a semi-retirement hobby shop for five years. They, nor Driver, had spent the last five years issuing dictations to the team about who should be re-signed, or who should be retained as coach (because they didn't want to have to learn a new playbook), or try and broker free agent deals for the GM to rubber stamp, or finally feel that they should have draft sign off after they retire.

You see, so many people remain IGNORANT of just what a throbbing hemorrhoid Favre was the last three years with the team. They haven't spent three nights on Greta throwing the team under the bus, whining about what liars the Packers management are and have it all boil down pretty much to not being able to be the de facto GM of the team.

Favre didn't really want to do the things it would take to be the best QB he could be. He was "tired" and the "down time was painful". He just wanted to show up on Sundays and see what might happen, stuff the team - from the front office on down - with his buddies.

When you show me that Longwell, Sharper, or Driver have done ANY of these things, then you might have a point about Packer Nation.

The long and the short of it is Favre burned his legacy, no one took it from him, and his behavior BEFORE signing with the Vikings wore out his welcome for many Packer fans. I'm not saying there weren't many Packer fans just as ignorant of Favre's behavior the three years prior to retirement, and who let just the Viking signing alter their point of view, but they certainly aren't the entire population. I'd say the majority of those who wish to have nothing to do with Favre now base their attitude on Favre's acting as if he was above the team instead of beholden to it for making him who he was.

Veence69, yeah, good try. Maybe if Driver had been doing a public Hamlet act for the past four years, and then announced he was retiring before the draft, and then decided when camp began that he was coming back, and then stormed out of camp when told it would be open competition at his position, and then made it clear that he wanted to play for one of the Packers' main foes, and then "retired" again to make sure that happened... yeah, then maybe Driver would get booed in Wisconsin. Hold your breath on that happening, would you please?

I really hope that Ted Thompson could give a crap less if Donald was there for OTA's or not. I'm pretty sure he will be in GB, but for probably a chunk less than he's currently making.

I truly hope he ends up with the Fins. He'd be a #1, or #2 at worst and would, obviously, be reunited with his old OC and be a great pair of hands for the rook @QB

I'm a life long Packer fan and love DD, a great player, an even better teammate and a positive influence in the locker room.

Realistically, the Pack has 2 wr's on the practice squad whom they drafted in 2011 who can play anywhere in the NFL now. The only reason they were able to keep them is that they are being oaid as if they were on the 53, not the PS.

They also drafted and signed as free agents 3 promising wr's this year.

DD may be invited to camp, but he won't make the final cut. Better for him if they cut him loose now.

Remember they have all-pros Jennings and Nelson, exciting Randall Cobb, TE Finley, who plays and lines up as a wr and dependable James Jones. They're one of the best the best receiving groups in the league.

I've said it before...

It'll be decided once camp starts...

If DD is clearly better than the practise squad players, he'll stay.

If they're equal, he'll may be gone.

But the question I have is... If they release him, how much of that 2.6 mill will count against the cap. (Assuming he doesn't get picked up elsewhere.)

If you're going to have to pay the guy anyway.. and he's able to play, might as well keep him and play him.

And let's be honest.. the bottom 1/3 of the roster gets swapped out almost every year anyway. If the guy is that low on the totem poll, likely as not, there some other guy on the street that could take his place.
