He is 23 now. This deal expires when he is 29.

He gets a large portion in the first 3 years of the deal.

How is it too backloaded? And how will he be pretty used up by 26 or 27?

For anyone who replied to my comment:

I’m well aware of what an extension means. However, the headline of this article says “5-year contract,” which is technically incorrect. Furthermore, the 5-year extension is not worth $45 million. The new, 6-year deal is worth $45 million. Shady is being payed an $8.5 million signing bonus in 2012, and the contract includes 2012, and that signing bonus will be spread over 6 years, not over 5.

So it is a 6-year deal. Using the length of the extension with the total dollar amount of the total deal is a trick agents use to make the average annual salary sound bigger. All I’m saying is that McCoy will make $45 million over 6 years, so his average annual salary is $7.5. It is NOT $9 million per year, as using the 5-years with the $45 million figure would imply.

I know my last post made it seem like jealousy ,but it is not.I love the Eagles and hate the giants as it should be,and i cant stand the fact that they won the superbowl with a 9-7 record,they were not even close to best team status.thats why they should atleast make the superbowl best of 3..if not the whole playoffs.I am a NFL fan first and foremost.And way to many of my 45 years as a fan we see a team get lucky in the play-offs and win a superbowl when in the real world they shouldnt of made the play-offs.Allot of crap helped NYG win this year.10-6 falcons had to play at 9-7 NYG,philbins son died days before the game,affected the whole team,9ers muffed 2 punts,and patriots cant beat the giants.and poof just like that,NYG wins a superbowl.the only thing it was good for was the NYGs and fans no-one else.

Good move by Philly. Hopefully this helps get Ray Rice locked up as both him and McCoy are similar players in terms of production, skill and style of play. Both are excellent runners as well as excellent recievers. Out of every offensive player in the NFL today I bet they are the two that most keep defensive coordinators up at night. They have that Brian Westbrook ability to line up at both WR and RB that defenses fear.

That’s great news for McCoy & for the Eagles!!!

This is EXACTLY the same type of deal that Matt Forte is looking for and deserves, especially after playing 3 years soooo underpaid!! I’ll bet that if the Bears put a deal together slotting Forte just behind or just ahead of what Shady just got and Matt would be on the next flight, sign that thing with the biggest permanent marker he could find & say “Let’s Get To Work”!!!

To all the Philly fans mocking Osi’s contract, you do realize he is the final year of a seven year, $41 million dollar deal, don’t you? Yes, McCoy’s contract pays more – in theory -but he has to finish the next six years to see it all. Osi has already received $37 million. McCoy will have to finish the 2016 season on Philly’s roster to see the same money Osi already has. I’m not wishing the guy harm, but that’s a lot of hits for a RB to absorb between now and then. Eagles have a tendency to get all they can out of guy and then let him go. No guarantee McCoy will ever see the money Osi has already made. Aside from that, good signing. The guy is the heart of your team.
