Here’s to the Patriots’ front office. For making fans of other NFL teams feel better about our own.

————————

If other front offices operated the same way their teams would win more games. Brady makes Welker great just like he did with Branch. Brady even made Reche Caldwell look good one year. They can’t pay Welker more than he worth. Some other team will sign him to a 3 year deal next year and without an ultra accurate QB they won’t be able to get him the ball.

__
Brady didn’t make Gaffney look great…his stats once he left INCREASED. So much for your theory.

—–

Well he did have to share a football with a record breaking randy moss, Wes, donte, and Watson. Who were the other receivers he had to share with when he left?

__
Also, Stallworth's two best seasons were in New Orleans, long before he was a Patriot.

In addition, Ben Watson had his best season the year AFTER he left New England.

___
Not in 2006, when Moss was with the Raiders. Gaffney had 11 receptions. Nor was Stallworth or Welker on that team in 2006. And Watson had a whopping 46 receptions that year.

Ted Thompson of the Packers DOES operate the same way and why the Packers are at the top of the league over the last three years.

Anyone with half a brain can see the football operations management of the contracts is a capital budget process - a three dimensional matrix where conditions are fed in and the money pretty much kachings based on the parameters. Sign a two year deal for X fits the matrix one way. Only want a one year deal, the matrix spits out a different answer. Cubits of estimated production per dollar over agreed upon duration Y. Let emotions and gut feel lead your decision making and your team sinks to the bottom.

Thompson and Belichick are cyborgs and their teams are at the top of the NFL.

He catches the ball in the Super Bowl he probably gets the bigger contract.

————————-

If Brady doesn’t throw it two feet over his head maybe he would have.

——————

If he had realized the safety had dropped into the box (the same one that picked the pass off on the same play they ran the last time they played the Giants) and that he should have ran his route 2 feet deeper, he would have caught it.

IF Tammy Brady had thrown a better ball, you whiners wouldn't still be crying. The rest of us thank Mr. Bundchen for his mistake.

I say Make a trade right now straight up with the Rams for Stephen Jackson….sign Jackson to a 3 year deal & install either Edelman or Anthony Gonzales at slot & with Vereen/Ridley/Woodhead there to help take the workload off Jackson he’d stay healthy & strong the next 3 years & the Pats win 2 0f the next 3 superbowls…maybe all 3!!!!

He catches the ball in the Super Bowl he probably gets the bigger contract.

Even Jerry Rice wouldn’t have caught that wounded duck.

Yeah, those low velocity balls that hit you on both hands are a tough grab. You would have to be at least a high school athlete or something to catch one of those.

Welker's body was going forward, while the pass was thrown behind him. Not many pros, much less college or high school guys are going to catch that one. But keep on kneeling at the feet of your hero Tammy Brady...too bad he doesn't even know or care who you are.

He had a big money offer last year, but he turned it down.

Now they have a new # 1 wide receiver in Lloyd and now the Pats have more leverage against him.

Welker did this to himself. He is not Calvin Johnson or Fitzgerald. Welker is a product of how good Brady is and he should have taken the money when he had a chance.
================================

Welker's stats are part of the function of having Brady as his quarterback, part of being a slot receiver in the Pats offense (see Brown, Troy), and part being an outstanding WR. But I agree with you that his stats will drop in 2012 and the Patriots know that and THAT will drop his 2013 market value. With Lloyd, Gronk, and Hernandez, the wealth will be spread more evenly. It's not as if Welker was going to get a long term deal in any case.

David Smith,

This is not rocket science! Please.

Pats want to pay $16M for two seasons. He signs for next season at $9.5M. I guess the following year would be $6.5M (less the guaranteed 20% increase) instead of the $8M per year they really want to pay. Got it?

You can't have it both ways Wes.

Welker had business choice to sign his tender or not. He can sign a long term deal or not. It's his decision. We live in America.

Should I be consulting you before I make a business decision? If so, please list your qualifications and accomplishments in life.

Somebody else's paycheck should be none of your concern?
