Patriots sign seventh-round pick Alfonzo Dennard

Shalise Manza Young of the Boston Globe reports that the Patriots have agreed to terms with seventh-round pick Alfonzo Dennard on a four-year contract.

Dennard, a cornerback out of Nebraska, saw his draft stock plummet due to poor offseason workouts capped off by an arrest for third-degree felony assault of a police officer. He’ll be arraigned on that charge in a couple of weeks.

Dennard was a highly regarded press corner in Cornhuskers coach Bo Pelini’s defense, playing opposite Giants 2011 first-round pick Prince Amukamara before his senior season. Dennard will battle for a 53-man roster spot in Patriots training camp this summer.

Three of the Pats’ seven draft picks are now under contract. Previously signed were seventh-round wide receiver Jeremy Ebert and second-round safety Tavon Wilson.
